One night one of the interns over polished the VAB floor.

After the slippery chaos was cleaned up , the engineers started wondering if a polished rocket would go faster!

The scientists confirmed it makes no difference but the pilots liked the shiny buttons and switches so much, they refused to fly without them.

I started playing with SSTU labs          Ooh shiny! This made my other engines look rather un-shiny. So I tried the old Textures unlimited default stock mod found here. but I play with Restock and it did some things I didn't want it to. 

Originally just planned to fix the windows, went down abit of a rabbit hole ended up with reflection cfgs for:

I split the cfgs into two sections, one with a more metallic shine one with a less metallic shine. 

 

Special thanks to Shadowmage for inspiring the mod and making it possible with Textures Unlimited, don't think I'll ever fully understand the dark voodoo that goes on in TU.

Originally just planned to fix the windows, went down abit of a rabbit hole ended up with reflection cfgs for:     Updates up to 1.9,    BG DLC,    ReStock,      BDB,       TantaresSC,      APUS,      UniversalStorage2,     Kerbanov,     FTT,     USI Kontainers&Reactors,      KIS,          KAS,         B9 Aero,       KerbalAtomics,       Heat Control,        KSCFloodlight,       MOLE,        DSEV,      Buffalo,     DunaDirect.

I split the cfgs into two sections, one with a more metallic shine one with a less metallic shine. 

Known issues:  Restock 125 fueltanks & Mk2 fuselages don't quite work, the shine shows on the VAB tiles but not on the part? Working on a fix, open to any suggestions.

ooh nice I forgot about restock+

I've got BDB filling most of the gaps in my current game

No this just shades the models 

You can use the recolour depot for a full recolour

Whoops should be fixed now

I dont want to derail the thread, but, thanx for that theme @zer0Kerbal . I've been using a nice "black" theme.
@Skonks you might also be interested in this, if you dont already know of it. (its a custom KSP language for NP++)

And if you didnt know, once you install your theme of choice, you can tweak it using the "Settings-->Style Configurator" in NP++

On a different note, would it be possible to include 'Detail' as a property alongside the 'Metal' and 'Smoothness' properties? Would give more depth to parts with details ;)

Thank you i will add it in an update.

For the mk2 parts-  they're part of the stock cfg. Problem is all the mk2 parts work without restock, so if i delete them it messes up stock.

I will have a go at blocking it with a MM patch after work. if you want to block them they're in the stock config, in the second section, search for 

model = Squad/Parts/Command/mk2CockpitInline/model 

 model = Squad/Parts/Command/mk2CockpitStandard/model  

Oooh thak you for this, will definitely help me find those sneaky brackets that aren't quite where they're meant to be  

Hmmm i shall have to do some experimenting with detail

I did try adding a colour value with little success, I wasn't trying to makes things gold...

Will see if i can add a detail property, hopefully the detail is added in the model

Fantastic Mod! Makes for some great  explodium-flavored eye candy!

I do have one question, though: I'm not seeing a config for NearFuture in the mod directory and the parts aren't showing the effect. Is there supposed to be a pre-defined config for that mod? I'm fine to do some legwork if it's not intended to be packaged but if it is I figured I'd warn ya (It works for everything else, tho)

Is this in the stock cfg? I had a similar problem with the restock tanks, got them to work by applying the shader to the textures aswell as the model. Should be easy enough to do a patch for the stock ones, are there any other parts without variants I should add while I'm there?

@Skonks thx for the new version - I installed it via ckan. Will try it out if it works now :)

Btw do you know how to get such recoloring and texture selection menu like the one shown in the TU Thread for the SSTU part? (First Screenshot left upper corner) :D

the zip ending 1.3-1 should have a config called TexturesUnlimited_NFsuite

I wound up reinstalling the mod and it resolved the issue;  I'm not sure certain what version but prolly 1.3-1 given the timing. I also wrote a script to generate configs for mods following the patterns you laid out if you're interested

I think for the recolour Gui you need extra meshes so it knows where to apply the colours, I'm not sure if you could rig it to work off normalmaps?

ah yes sumin about some see through objects and TU don't seem to play so well I will try to block the mesh for the deplolyed part it in the config

Ya know when I was making them I kept thinking, I bet there's a really easy way  but I just don't know how to write the code for it.

@Skonks I just found out the Recolour Depot lets you recolor the parts to your delight, but then with the mesh switcher your changes are overwritten or ignored.

Also sorry to bother you again, I think I found a mesh bug with the Launch Clamps :

Dunno how easy it is to get into KSP Modding and Unity modding. Maybe I'll give it a shot one day :D

@Moofrog yeah i think the recolour depot applies a texture over the model, that's what was happening with the tank variants. I think it has a shininess slider

 

Ah I will have to remove them from the cfg, I remember seeing them when I checked stock, but its been so long since i played without restock I wasn't sure if it was wrong or not ha.
