I feel like they can be split into

bad ones with bad ads

good ones with ads

good ones without ads

bad ones that you know you shouldn’t like but you like them anyway (good many of these on my phone)

tell me your mobile game experiences

My rule of thumb is: If it ever shows me an unsolicited video ad, it's not worth my time. These games are few and far between. I have very few games on my phone aside from a bunch of simple physics sandboxes and computational eye candy.

Powder game, Langton's Ant, some fluid simulators, Minesweeper, a couple of other apps where you watch particles fly around the screen...Aside from that only a couple 'real' mobile games.

powder toy and space flight simulator are two games that I have that are, IMO, gud examples of good games without ads.

plague inc, theotown and idle universe are games in device that have ads but are, IMO, still gud.

most games that have an unbearable amount of ads I just delete and purge from my memory.

but there are a few that I keep just to pass time during those serviceless roadtrips (or I just turn on airplane mode). a few examples include those two smashy splody games, that one "OOOO" physic game, and a few others that I just forgot the existence/name of. :P

I'll play any game that's more fun than annoying. This includes ads. If the game is more fun than the ads are annoying then I'll play it, sure.

Currently enjoying Minesweeper Collector, Solitarica, and Rogue Adventure on Android. Just installed but haven't started Minimal Dungeon RPG.

I bought (with Play Money (both senses of the word as I got the money for free)) Solitarica because it was cheap and the money unlocked a lot but as a bonus, no more ads. Minesweeper Collector lets you watch ads for extras but from what I recall doesn't show them without prompting, but I've kinda beaten that so haven't played it in a week or so. Rogue Adventure IIRC shows them after every complete game, which for me has been every loss :D. Not enough to be annoying IMO.

idle universe

idle games are the definition of either you like it but you shouldn’t or  you don’t like it. Weirdly satisfying but I can’t get into them.

I played it on Wii (well the mini game inside ... I don't even remember the title) and now am unable to enjoy it on any other platform.

The only game I really play on my phone is Spaceflight Simulator. It's sort of a stripped-down 2D version of KSP. The developer is obviously a big KSP fan as well.

oh ye that’s fun, haven’t played it for a while but since I don’t have a computer I should return.

im very demanding of my games, if it cant be played on a gigantic monitor with actual controls and not a clumsy touch screen, then im just not interested.

meeeehhhhhh, as someone who is currently stuck with mobile, I’ve warmed up to touchscreen. However, for things like 3D games, the controls are clumsily big. Like jeez, that experience is better on a computer tbh

It depends on the game and situation. I'd rather do crosswords on my phone than anywhere else. And I can't with much practicality bring my triple-monitor setup to bed with me.

You don't need a computer to do anything. People spend their leisure time in different ways.

I like to do a crossword puzzle or a couple sudoku to get my brain out of work mode and into sleep mode.

you get better sleep quality if you dont fall asleep with a phone stuck to your face.

The only game I have on my phone is Play Magnus.

If I want to play a game, I have a PC that has better ones than anything available on mobile. If I'm not near PC and have some free time to waste, my phone has access to so much more interesting stuff than crushed candy, fliping birds, or angry pigs...

I agree with you. That's why after the crossword or sudoku I put the phone down.

my bedtime ritual usually revolves around yelling at cats.

I've been "playing" Duolingo for almost 300 days non stop now. I love this app. Once I finish all the Chinese lessons I will probably learn some other language.
