This game is dead?

There's pessimism and there's filling every blank in the info we have with wild theories about how the game probably has been cancelled years ago and this is all a convoluted plan to delete an educational game from an evil publisher that wants everybody to buy excrementsty games.

I doubt anyone was saying that.

And just for the record KSP2 was announced in 2019, followed by KSP 1 versions 1.8 through 1.12, which came out in June of last year. 1.12.3 was released just in December. Thats over 20% of the game's total development history. 2+ years of continued development can't simultaneously be 'instantaneous cancellation' for KSP1 and also a scandalously long period signaling KSP2's imminent collapse. Out of the possibilities that this is all some nefarious plot to kill the game and yet string us along for reasons unknown, or that both Squad and Intercept have been working hard to bring KSP1 to a satisfying close while making a worthy successor, the latter seems more plausible.

A few small parts, some visual updates, features borrowed from mods and EVA construction

Atmospheric heating and all related effects (2015) were borrowed from Deadly Reentry (2013). Commnet and Kerbnet (2016) were borrowed from RemoteTech and ScanSat. I could go on, because every or nearly every feature implemented into the game post 1.0 was earlier in a mod. The difference is, the implementation didn't increase game loading times by 1000% like some mods did.

Yes, the game did. From KSP 1.7 to 1.8 I had to buy a new potato to keep playing KSP. At that time I didn't bored too much as the old potato was really old, and the new potato has twice the cores and 3 times the VRAM.

But on KSP 1.12 things got screwed again, and I need to buy again something newer because the game is now even heavier than before.

I don't know what was done on KSP 1.12 (besides breaking badly the docking ports) that rendered useless a machine that was running 1.11 with an acceptable performance. Damn, even the Main Menu is getting 6 or 7 fps on that rig now.

In a previous post, it was asked that personal attacks not be included in comments made about the future of Kerbal Space Program 2.

Some comments made after that post were clearly in violation of the established forum guidelines. They were toxic to the intent of the forum - which is to allow a free and open discussion on spaceflight, science, and our mutual love of Kerbal Space Program. And yes, that includes allowing for complaint about various features, the development, and delays, and other problems associated with the release of the various updates to the original and sequel, Kerbal Space Program 2.

But it does not mean the continued use of comments that can be seen as instigating or promoting a highly emotional response, trolling other members, personal attacks, belittling others who have different opinions or value certain aspects of the game above others can be tolerated. For these reasons, this thread will remain locked.
