The station

The satellite repair module. It doesn't really work, it's just for the looks. It has yellow ladders that can extract to work as some sort of repair machines.

It's a not so advanced career game so I didn't have much of the parts the game can offer. I did my best with what I had. There is still a docking port left unused so I will find something to fill it with. I didn't have any plan regarding that space station I just make new modules on the spot.

1 large + 2 small shuttles (1x 8 and 2x 4 Kerbals)

2 escape pods (3 Kerbals per pod)

1 Debris Hunter (intercepts and recycles debris into fuel and metal)

11520/14080 LFO

240000 rocket parts

1125 monoprop

Room for 52 Kerbals in 5 UDK hab modules and 2 custom UDK/EPL workshops.

Capable of recycling metal to rocket parts and building/refueling new craft in orbit.

Weighs in at just under 850 tons.

450*450 Kerbin orbit.

It does start to affect frame rates but it's still not a slide show. More parts will be added.

Wow, so much win right here in this thread!

No screenshots until later, and none at all of my first efforts (from what I could see on my steam screenshots, anyway... damn mobile 'net!!!) but made the n00bie mistake of using the small 1x6 solar panels in rows along 2 of the big I-beams... result was that it absorbed the speed/wash of any engine passing too close, and all the solar panels just wobbling madly, whether they were open or retracted! looked like it was trying to use them to fly away!

Latest one is much better, uses all-Gigantor arrays, with much more spacing between docking ports, and more different types of docking connector (all 3 in use - Jr., Snr., and standard...)

Here's the station I've been working on for some time, with a basic concept in mind: the ability to customise the station to any needs you may have. The core uses moveable arms (Infernal Robotics from Magic Smoke Industries - I think) for the standard docking ports - to allow fine positioning of small craft, such as escape pods and orbiters - plus a large number of Sr. docking ports for stable construction in all directions.

All the modules have their own supply of RCS, thrusters and an automated probe core, allowing the addition, removal and reorganisation of your station without the need to send up a crew to do it. Naturally, this makes the station great for deep-space missions, sparing the hassle of flying out crew if no-one's around.

Apologies if I've not embedded the album correctly, it's my first time using Imgur for hosting images.

The new module you see in the last 3 screenshots is the space dock I've just sent up, for building stuff in orbit. I had a classic Kerbal fail on the way up: when 2 of the four outer tanks were jettisoned, part of one clipped the central tank's engine and destroyed it. And with the way I'd set up the fuel flow, I'd run out of fuel in the remaining 2 outer tanks with a full central tank left. And with the way Kerbal handles fuel transfer, doing it that way was impossible whilst keeping the engines running. Fortunately, I had TAC Fuel Balancer installed at the time, so I managed to get the fuel out of the inner tank and into the two outer tanks, maintaining the ship's balance and not flipping it around, which is what would have happened had I used Kerbal's fuel transfer system.

My only issue with the station now is that it's getting too laggy on my measly laptop to use XD

The couple I have up now; The OFD (Orbital Fuel Depot) sitting just outside of atmosphere for my spaceplanes:

and my version of the KSS, sitting at 150km, made up (so far) of 4 docked parts - the 'main' bit is with the cupola at one end, then the power and secondary hab unit (which also contains the crew for the science lab), and another OFD attached to the bottom of that, and the primary hab unit/comms unit is attached perpendicular to the rest:

I have plans for more, and different configurations for my KSS, thinking I definitely need some sort of outpost near Jool!

Launched the base of my space station today...including science and habitation modules. Fuel depot and generators to follow over the coming days.

Just wanted a place to dock my SSTOs in orbit before they head out. The plan is to tug the station to Jool eventually.

Plenty of docking ports to add stuff.

First SSTO made it :)

And my Kehtane plasma SSTO made it too. Need to ship up my fuel depot and drive unit now.

15 Kerbals floating up there so far...and Doodsted's enjoying the view.
