AmpsterMan
So for the last two hours I have been trying to do a very thorough search for the different Munoliths located on Mun. I started by going through all of the major craters found on the moon and landing on them and taking Jeb out on a stroll in his cart while Bob and Bill get ready for the return trip. This has not worked. Its starting to get to the point where I am getting a little frustrated. I figured that squad my put the Monoliths next to easily identifiable landmarks (aka the craters) so that it wouldn't be to hard to find them. I am starting to think that is not the case. My question to you is, am I doing it right? Are the monoliths in easy to find places but I haven't been thorough enough? Are they in random little places? (IE. the Swaths of White with no identifiable landmarks on the moon) Furthermore, how have you guys found them? Should I use ISA Mapsat? The Muon detector?I look forward to the communities imput. Luxmaster-CZ
On mun there are only 2 munoliths. One is on southpole, and very, very, very hard to find. I would say its impossible without MapSat plugin. The other one it near equator, and it is in the middle of crater indeed! :Its not very big, just like a standard lander. And it is exactly in the middle of crater, on top of little hill:)Good luck finding it old way:)
maltesh
At least, as of v0.16, there's actually a third Monolith near the north pole on the Mun. But yeah, the Monoliths are only a few meters high. You are exceeedingly unlikely to find any of the monoliths on the Mun without some sort of plugin-based addon helping you. I could see finding two of the five Kerbin monoliths without being told or using a plugin, but the other three... Yeah, really unlikely.
AmpsterMan
On mun there are only 2 munoliths. One is on southpole, and very, very, very hard to find. It must be! I was on the South Pole last night and concluded that there was nothing there! Now that I have a rover capable lander I'll have to go an do some more 'splorin . The other one it near equator, and it is in the middle of crater indeed! :Its not very big, just like a standard lander. And it is exactly in the middle of crater, on top of little hill:)I think I know what crater you are talking about. It never occured to me to search the little mountain in the middle. I just hovered over the crater at 10km and did a visual scan to see if I could find it. I am glad that the munoliths aren't in random places, that is very comforting because I hope to find all of the artifacts in the Kerbol system without use of the Muon detector or the Mapsat plugin. At least, as of v0.16, there's actually a third Monolith near the north pole on the Mun. And about the Kerbin ones, I've only seen the one near the KSC as I launched one day. Never went to go visit it. Vanamonde
10km is MUCH too far away to see a monolith. They're hard to spot from 1-2kms away even if you know where to look. They don't do that sparkly thing from a distance like the arches. I've been playing the game constantly for 4 months now, and I've still only found 3 monoliths, two of them with partial help of some spoliers I couldn't avoid. Nibb31
It is pretty much impossible to stumble upon them by chance. You can only see them from 1 or 2 km as a shimmering pixel and the surface area of the Mun is 500000km². The chance of finding one without using a mapsat are infinitesimal.
AmpsterMan
Hey guys! I did it! I found a Munolith! I built a ship that has different escape pods and can carry kerbals to different parts of the moon so I can speed up my search. I ended up finding the one close to the Equator. Next up, I am going to try and find the ones at the poles. Thanks for all your help guys!
AmpsterMan
So I have a question for you fellow Kerbalnauts. I don't wish to start a new thread on this matter. Now that I have found the Munolith near the equator, I am trying to find the one in the North Pole. Can you guys give me a general clue as to where it is? Is it in those big "mare" areas? Is it in a Crater? In the middle? On the edge?
AlexL
theres a hint on the nav-ball...maybe look closely on the horizon from the runway...
AmpsterMan
-snip- I'm still focused on Mun, but I'll definitely keep that one in mind for when I start searching on Kerbin

AmpsterMan
Its North of the one at the equator just on the edge of the north pole mountain rangeThat... is a lot more specific than I was looking for XD. Still, I'll post a pic when I get there! Thanks for the tip!Edit: Just fired up KSP and am in a polar orbit over the moon. Just realised that your tip wasn't as "revealing" as I thought it would be Edited October 5, 2012 by AmpsterMan
maple51
So far I've found the one by KSC. I haven't been doing much searching for them.

I find it to be a perfect balance between doing it "old school" and mapsatSo here is my current trajectory over the mountain range. Is that it? AmpsterMan
Okay guys here I am today. I have been trying to look for this northern monolith for about two weeks now. I have searched old forgotten threads, looked at plenty of pictures for them on google and tried to decipher where it is by the formations and I am pretty sure it is along this If any of you can give me a helping hand at this one I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if I need to go North, South, East, West. Download the picture and draw a red circle around the area, whatever! XD.

pandaman
@AmpsterMan Here is a link to a very good thread by @MalfunctionM1Ke that contains spoilers and coordinates for all known anomalies, I used it to find them all myself. Also check out kerbalmaps on the web, it also has options to show anomalies. Happy hunting. Whoah! Just seen how old this thread is..... The link still works though. Snark
Folks, this thread is well over three years old, and the game has gone through many major updates since then, and it's a whole new mod landscape, and the original people asking questions have no doubt found what they wanted long since. Locking the thread to avoid further confusion. If someone's still interested in the topic, they can open a new thread.
