Precisely, although there's probably enough redneck engineers to figure out how to make homemade snow tires from swings' chains.

Well, most all-terrain 4x4 tires should do ok, although ice may be more of a problem. They can always start studding those meaty 4x4 tires, with makeshift studs (short screws) if need be.

Sudden brainstorm:  I wonder how well staplegun staples would hold…

saw a clever design involving rebar, an old rim, and concrete. would probibly be "politely" asked to remove them by local law enforcement. and by polite i mean there will be fines, and possibly a very uncomfortable situation if your gun rack is full.

Yup, snowing now, and we’re following the proud Canadian tradition of driving through the snow to the neighbouring town for the kids to play hockey.

Funny how an inch of snow around here slows everything to a crawl, where a hundred miles inland it wouldn’t faze anyone. But I’m in good shape with a 4x4, good winter tires, and enough experience to not be stupid out there  My wife, otoh, cowers (driving-wise) at the first snowflake…

The drive home will be, uh, interesting…

We've had a couple dustings.

Fire in the fireplace right now, though it's not super cold yet tonight, 45°F (~7°C), it's supposed to be below freezing.

A firebrick fell out (kiva fireplace, so sort of a beehive shape. Looks like I need to buy some refractory caulk and fix it (after fireplace cools down).

we got another dusting. the heater is cranked to 80, but its not 80. its barely 65 in here. every time somone's pipes freeze they open the hatch and let all the cold air into the crawl space and i dont think there is any insulation down there. its an old building with an insufficient maintenance budget.

another inch, another shovelin'. id like to get it before it turns into ice, slush or both.  and throw down rock salt so i don't inadvertently kill mom's meals on wheels guy.
