Please turn off (or at least allow me to turn off) con trails

Recommended Posts

The con trails look cool for a moment, but turn into just annoying the moment you realize they are always there.

My suggestion: Turn them off, fix them if needed and only activate them if they really do anything even close to reality.

Easier alternatives:

- Allow the player to activate con trails per part. I mean, I am fine if finding logical places for con trails is too hard for the game logic. I can to that myself. And if so, throw in a "sensitivity" slider for me to control how easily they should appear.

- Or add a tiny "con-trail" part, that I can place just like a sticker, visible in the VAB, invisible outside, but creating con trails as defined in its part settings.

Be honest to yourself: The current ones are just badly done.

Added the idea of an invisible part.

I agree that they are not 'bad' as such, just badly implemented. And it looks stupid when happening mid-wing and at low speeds.

If we could have a toggle-able part as a source for trails, that would be quite cool.

I suspect this is due to them not being restricted to the tips of wings, stabilisers and control surfaces.

If other parts generate them then they will appear from wherever those parts are attached.

I'm really curious what possible reason there is to use composite wings now.

  • More complex wing geometries where the wing edges aren't just a line from root to tip. This aids creativity and recreations of RL craft.
  • Allow delta wing configurations to have separate control surfaces for pitch and roll, like this:

  • Can give you more control over where you attach a wing to the fuselage vs where most of the lift is generated.

See also this discussion for some of my past suggestions about procwing tip/root snapping, which would make it much easier to make and adjust composite wings.

Implementing a form of procwing tip/root snapping could neatly solve the contrails appearing in the middle of a composite wing as well, as the engine can detect a snapped wing and skip making contrails for wingtips that have another wing snapped to them.
