I had to find it on the sidebar through the site reposting it from Twitter. Dakota has stated he would be better about communications, and he once again dropped the freaking ball. I doubt it's te intention, but not posting a link to the AMA broadcast on the forum certainly gives the impression the CM's rather not see interaction of the forum. I can see how Discord and twitter are easier to manage as they interaction tends to be more linear (as opposed to forum posts with threads all over the place) but forum posts also tend to go a bit deeper. Giving the impression that you're willing to drop quality in exchange for convenience is not a favorable thing.

Alexoff
Perhaps on twitter and discord, simple short questions like "what is your favorite part in the game" or "what is your favorite animation in the game" are more often asked. Like questions on a first date, I'm a little surprised. And on the forum we have people seem a little more serious.

It was pretty clear with the context of the ama it was mostly a “we are running low on time, I generally like this suggestion but dont have the time to elaborate” thing. I feel like the explanation of dakota made a mistake is much more reasonable then its a conspiracy to kill off the forums because reasons. I do think cms have a tendency towards discord interaction as its generally much easier to be casual there (its off topic a lot more + it encourages short form quick stuff), however I dont think the devs hate the forums. Its pretty clear they consider it a useful part of their infrastructure considering things like them shifting bug reports to here, (and also doing tweaks to it like dakota working on rolling out a new release notes format). PQS is extremely rough, flings my rovers up into the air, and the "circle of trees" makes flying pretty lackluster, and those two activities are a pretty big draw for me. Sounds like we're not getting any iteration on terrain until CBT comes around.

Again. I mean is it a mistake that should be learned from the future, yes, however I don't think it's a major error. The first minor mistake was not including the link in the initial announcement, while the initial announcement for all platforms said it'd be on ksptv on twitch, they didnt specifically link it. Definitely something they should do in the future, but it's a pretty understandable oversight. The second mistake was not posting a "AMA starts in fifteen minutes" on forums. I don't think he forgot the forum exists, most likely the reason why he didn't do it was because unlike twitter and discord people tend to be on it much less of there day thus its not as important when it comes to short notice notifications. Should he have done it anyways as it doesnt hurt, yeah probably, is it an understandable thing to do? Yeah. Sounds like we're not getting any iteration on terrain until CBT comes around. The "circle of trees" you mention here isn't actually linked to the terrain (even if there is no doubt they will focus on this much later than the terrain). Right now the trees LOD system is pretty rudimentary and I understand they don't want to extend this "circle" because it would be a huge performance issue. But there is a lot of room for improvement here.

I mean when it comes to effectiveness of short term notifications, yes we are not as important. People spend hours staring at twitter and discord per day and get notifications for it on there phones, where as people are actively on forums for much less of there day. Forums is definitely useful for many things, suggestions here don't get pushed back in a tide of comments and you have dedicated spaces for specific topics, however when it comes to short term notifications, you can't really @everyone and have a notification pop up overhead on their phones. Quite frankly there's no reason they can't expose a config value to allow "power users" like myself to expand that rendering distance and accept whatever performance problems it brings. Hell, some people might even want to reduce it to nothing in order to improve FPS. But why spend dev time on that when you're implementing an entirely new system that may ultimately do it better? Let's face it, we're not going to get any improvements on that front until we see CBT. Edited June 30, 2023 by regex

AOL and Yahoo don't rate very high these days either despite many things starting there and still being active. Discord is a very successful platform for creating high traffic communities focused on a video game. The platform is built for more fast paced information and discussion. To ignore it's popularity and demand a paid employee spend more time on a less active, less "engaging" community would likely be seen as counterproductive. Should there be proportional attention given to all platforms? Yes, probably. Still though, if you're this concerned then I think you need to join and/or start paying attention to the discord more. Contribute there. Even if you don't, that's where the community is more active, more accessible, and (by far) more diverse. The future is now!
