Black visual artefacts when passing through cloud layer

Reported Version: v0.1.5 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit | CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s) | GPU: Radeon RX 5500 XT ( Trigger 6 External Graphics | RAM32GB installed

Severity: low ( Workaround of simply setting cloud quality to low, i think user supertiefighter was the first to realize )

Frequency: High, can consistently reproduce the issue

Expected Experience: Flying into cloud will obfuscate the gamescreen with white particles that will disappear or thin upon exiting the cloud.

Craft dependant: No, bug can be triggered by multiple craft files

Upon Flying into a cloud, Artefacts begin appearing, seemingly over anything that is not the cloud or the aircraft ( further testing shows that if the camera is sufficiently zoomed out, the space showing the craft is also subject to artefacting ). these artefacts are black and continue to obscure everything ( including the cloud and craft, if the camera is moved such that the artefact would obscure them ) until disappearing upon reaching  some variable distance around 12,000 meters above sea level

See screenshots below for severity of the issue and testing results

When passing through Kerbin's cloud layer (going up or down), parts of the screen turn black. The black pixels stay black until reaching a certain altitude (about 12000m) or loading a quicksave. They persist when returning to KSC, entering the tracking station or VAB (although the pixels temporarily return to normal in those buildings), and when launching a new rocket.

This also happened to me while passing through the cloud layer, and the black pixels disappeared immediately after reaching 12000 meters. Once they have appeared, they stay where they are on the screen and don't move, even with moving the camera around.

I am experiencing the same issue, but my screen is almost completly black during this part of the flight. I am also using an all AMD Machine (Ryzen 9 3900x; RX5700XT; 32GB 3600MHz CL16) but I am using Windows 11.

I have discovered that the issue does not occure when setting the cloud quality to LOW. When I had the clouds on HIGH, the issue occured, but disappeared after passing through the clouds. When setting the quality to MEDIUM, the game completly broke, because the artifacts never disappeared, even when going back to the KSC.

As you can see in the screenshot, I went back to the KSC but the black pixels (or in this case the black screen) stayed.

Appears to happen when I hit the clouds, then black fills the entire screen except for the ship. Went away for me at about 10km altitude.

We're investigating this issue. Appreciate all of your reports. Current workaround is to set the cloud quality setting to low. We'll communicate when we have news on a fix.

A bit off topic, but this is definitely going to show up in fanfiction and it's going to have it's own lore. I cannot recall a more visually distinct and interesting graphics glitch in all of KSP history.

Please do link me the lore if you make some, im sure there are plenty of cool ideas for potential causes ( like airborne nanobots ripping apart sensors as you pass through them or radioactive / industrial waste covering the vessel )

I'm also experiencing the pixel cloud glitch. I turned the cloud graphics up to high, and when I flew into the clouds the black pixels started to appear and got worse as I looked around.20231026004208-1.jpg

So recently with the new 0.1.5.0 patch, when i get close to any atmosphere of any planets these strange black artifacts starts appearing, i only see them after leaving Kerbin atmosphere, everything at launch is fine,

but after i start getting close to a planet to enter it's atmosphere, my screen starts to get those black artifacts if i move my camera in any direction.

My guess would be that AMD drivers are interfering with the new patch and it doesn't like it lol.

This occurred on the first flight of the most recent patch.  As soon as I crossed the cloud line black ghost artifacts of my ship covered parts of the screen and persisted until I left Kerbin's atmosphere.  I was able to replicate this over multiple launches.  20231026165127_1.jpg?ex=654d5eba&is=653a

When flying a plane or rocket, at around 2500-4000 meters (cloud layer height), my screen has little black spots that appear. If I move the camera angle, the black spots will cover everything except for the vehicle.

Just a hopefully useful data-point, I'm NOT getting this issue in 0.1.5, despite having an AMD GPU.

Running on Linux via Proton (perhaps causing the game to use Vulkan rather than DX?)

CPU: AMD 5950X

GPU: AMD 6800Xt

Today I updated and started to test the game after a long time. Using the latest version, I tried to launch a rocket.

But I ran into a problem, between 1700 meters altitude up to 12700 meters, several of my pixels died in flight. I assume that the problem is due to the last patch of clouds, since the problem arose as soon as I entered the area. I'll leave some images for you to see how it was.
Just in case, I tried them with different rockets, but they all gave the same result. Even one of them was not visible at all and only the host star, Kerbol, could be seen.
