The Newest Dres Awareness Society

That. The return to the Dres Awareness Society.

Here's the link to the original Awareness Society, which was actually the reboot to the one before it!

I haven't even ever gone to Dres (or even interplanetary. One day...) but Dres deserves some love again.

So uh, I guess post something you like about Dres (KSP1 or KSP2).

***

For me, I'm excited about the possibility of sending crew to the Dres canyon! It seems like a nice, scenic place to set up a little outpost.

Yeees! I love Dres! Actually posted a mission in the old thread and got the badge you see in my signature below.

I landed an advertisement billboard saying "We Love Dres!" to bolster the public's awareness and support for the *best* planet in the solar system. I especially love the revamp for KSP2, the rings are a neat reference to the OG "Dres-teroid" ring. It has possibly my favorite KSP1 easter egg:

Spoiler

A crashed red sports car, a reference to the Tesla Roadster Elon launched on a Falcon Heavy a while back.

Would love to do a follow-up mission, possibly the start of a small hotel.

DRES! DRES! DRES!

Go for it! It's not as intimidating as it looks. My first (and so far only, but not for long) Duna mission was easier than I'd thought it would be, just long.

You know, I'll bet my Duna ship from my science save could go to Dres. If I removed all the aero parts, it would have a lot more potential- plenty of biome hopping. Dres would have actually been a better choice to go to first since it's only a little harder than landing on Minmus, probably the easiest planet (though not moon) in the solar system.

Hmmm... unfortunately I've never been to Dres so I can't really make a challenge for it.

Not necessarily, the old thread simply said, (distilled down) "Send something very big to Dres." You don't have to be able to go somewhere to say "Hey, why don't you." And when in doubt, pull out ChatGPT. :D

Edit: Alright, I guess something original is much harder.

The lander is complete. Several landings, with dedicated ISRU equipment. Ceres Station will be built in LKO, and then launched to Dres. Not sure if I should use chemical or nuclear, it depends on how big it ends up being. Ceres will have two contra-rotating, inflatable gravity rings, and plenty of docking ports for future expansions. The lander, Harvest, (Cause Ceres/Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and plants and agriculture) will land at the Dres canyon, the billboard I landed previously, and probably the anomaly, if I can find it. Oh, and Ceres will come with a little scanning probe, to make its way to a polar orbit. I don't want to make this a craft development thread, so that's just the basic plan. I won't share anything else until the mission is in progress.

Ok, I lied. Here's Ceres Station, with the transfer module attached:

The big fuel tank will be detached at Dres (and deorbit itself). I could have used nuclear engines, but it's a one-way trip- um, an eventual return is planned, so conventional rockets will work fine. And I'm tired of low TWRs.

Alright, but that's the last thing, I promise.

A long-overdue update on CERES: Despite it being technically ready, the design had numerous flaws and inefficiencies, plus, since it was built I've downloaded a bunch of mods that would make it easier. The current plan for building CERES II is this:

  • Use Konstruction docking ports to save weight and parts count
  • Use a couple Cherenkov engines from Restock+ rather than Vectors or NERVs clustered together
  • Use Stockalike Station Parts Redux to make a more functional space station, as well as provide a non-buggy centrifuge
  • Implement support for TACLS

CERES (The first) has been deorbited. The crew that was on board was rescued, simultaneously testing out a cool STS-inspired MK2 spaceplane.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
