Suggestion: Lock this forum

Recommended Posts

KSP2 is dead.  Why do we still have a suggestion box when we know it might as well be a paper shredder? There are no devs anymore, only modders. Any future updates are probably sitting on a hard drive that was sent to the dump.

We need to lock the S&DD forum, just as we locked the bug report subforum. What else is there to do? There is no development going on, no one to send suggestions to.

It is the wise option, given the circumstances. If there are no objections...

@RandomKid

You could apply that logic to the entire forum.  Nobody is working on KSP either, so why not just lock the whole place?  Shut the whole thing down.  No development, so nobody needs it any more, right?

While I won't take that much of a leap of logic, one reason to keep this forum section alive is that modders could see a really good suggestion and turn it into a mod.

It's been over a decade, but I'm sure there are some ideas out there that nobody has ever had.

That's a completely illogical argument. KSP is a fully released game with complete DLC content all of which has documented mod support. Mods for KSP are improved, updated or created constantly. KSP2 has none of that going for it and never will. It's completely pointless to have ANY KSP2 subs here.

How so?  The original statement made by OP:

There are no devs for KSP either, only modders.  In fact, there hasn't been any development on KSP2 in at least 2 years.  So why shouldn't the same logic be applied?  No devs, so shouldn't the KSP side also be shut down?

And, as you can see, this makes the original statement ridiculous.  Which is the point - that was lost on you - I was trying to make.

Other parts of the forum still serve a purpose even in the absence of continuing development:

  • Mission reports and Spacecraft Exchange are worthwhile as long as people are playing and enjoy sharing and reading them.
  • Mod threads are useful as long as people are still making and using mods.
  • Community tech support is useful as long as there are users having issues with mods.
  • Science & Spaceflight still has occasional interesting updates about real life missions, sometimes from participants.

If these activities continue to help draw in new users and sales, then it even makes sense for the new owners to continue paying nominal sums to keep the overall forum online.

The "KSP2 Suggestions and Development Discussion" sub-forum, on the other hand, was created to discuss ideas that might influence ongoing development. That purpose can no longer be served with development stopped, and leaving it unlocked could be misleading for users who haven't kept up with the current status of the game. And yes, of course the same is true of "KSP1 Suggestions and Development Discussion". It makes no less sense to lock that one as well.

It sounds like you may have interpreted the OP as suggesting that all KSP2-related subforums be shuttered. The mention of "S&DD" is a pretty clear indication that that was not the intention:

Don't make it personal. Some comments removed.

As for this subforum, there's no harm in discussing with each other even if there are no devs to hear it.

And it sounds like you missed my entire point, which i pointed out in my last post.  Is sarcasm just lost on people these days?

Howso?

If you had a point that somehow everyone else is missing, please feel free to restate it more clearly.

Wow.  I have to explain it?  Ok.

OP made a comment about how there is no decelopment so this section of the forum should be shut down.  I extrapolated that using sarcasm to show how stupid that iI.

Did that really need to be explained?  Why is it that my points seem to be missed by people, but similar statements by others would get picked up on immediately?  I mean, I'm starting to take it personally.  Like, are people intentionally just ignoring what I write, thinking "It's that Crow guy again, we don't like him"?

I see. In that case, I can confirm that I did not miss your point at all, but rather understood it fully. I was pointing out the reasons why it was a poorly supported, bad point to be making.

There is a simple, plausible alternative:  Perhaps people are merely disagreeing with you.
