What did you do in KSP1 today?

Yesterday, I decided to scour the skies clean to start afresh. So, in order of recovery/disposal:

Minmus Scout 1: I launched Jeb and Bill on another mission in the "Space Truck" (an overview cabin mounted on a 1.5m long fuel tank with solar panels, RCS quads and tanks, and an LV-909) for an orbital test 8 mission days ago, only to discover that I had a *ton* of dV left, so I decided to go for Minmus. I ended up in an inclined retrograde orbit, which I circularized very easily. After three orbits, I brought the boys home. Again, I ended up retrograde, this time on approach to the KSC. I tried to do a Kurtjmac-style pinpoint landing on the KSC proper, but it appears that coming in fast from the east for a landing is really hard. I ended up landing Jeb and Bill about 75km southwest of the KSC.

Artemis 1: My first Mun probe. It had been circling around the Mun for nearly a month MET, but with nearly a half tank of fuel left, I decided to bring her home. On the way, I decided that it would be worth the time to do aerobraking experiments (I found that 35km is the optimal altitude for Kerbin aerobraking). I also tried to do a soft hover landing with what fuel I had left, but I couldn't control the descent, and ended up crashing the probe.

KerBall 2: The end of this, my second Kerbin orbiter, was pretty straightforward: burn retrograde until empty, then let gravity to the rest. (I also got rid of this probe to cover up an embarrassing design flaw: I put on 8 RCS quads, but no RCS tanks. No wonder it handled like a brick.)

And finally, KerBall 1, my first ever Kerbin orbiter: I thought I had marooned it in a 100km x 400km inclined orbit with no fuel -- until I remembered that it still had nearly full monopropellant tanks. So a long RCS burn at apoapsis helped bring the periapsis down to 25km; a final burn in atmosphere helped send the probe, which had circled Kerbin for 80 mission days, to a watery grave.

Now, it's back to the drawing board for the next phase.

Hello people of the internet!

Today I enlarged my rocket (Dark Star) with alot of unnessary fuel for funsies. It's pretty much my version of a "Kerbin Local System Cadillac" * . Fly/Land anywhere around Kerbin and its moons, even a little beyond its sphere of influence and return home without worry. Do a round trip to all of the above and land even with fuel to spare!

*Batteries are included. Some Kerbal reassembly may be required. Except for Jebediah. He's perfectly fine.

Docked a large fuel tank with RCS tanks to Kerbal Station One.

For looks, designed a core science module (four of them around a core module with extensions at top and bottom, clamp-o-tron's at the ends of all, and launched into orbit, realized I hadn't attached ANY RCS to it and the tug, but will see how my milage goes, already added RCS to the one in the VAB, but will remain on contingency.

I like building out my station, it may come in handy someday but looks great.

I also think I'm going to send up a orbital booster, either to raise it up a bit, or take it out to the Mun. :)

I finally got done cutting, compressing and annotating the first episode of an asteroid redirect mission. The whole mission is complete, so I get to head right into editing part two. Documenting the kerbal's work is exhausting!

Thanks for the suggestion of Chatterer in this thread. I'm using it now. :)

My latest trip was a "Let's go to Minmus, because it's been many Kerbal decades, and why not?"

Part of the whole point was to have a relatively simple rocket launch, with a good framerate for a change. The first version of this had only one pair of lateral boosters, but when I beefed up the center stage, I needed more TWR, and for longer, so it's more complex than I wanted. But still not bad. :)

I went to Jool for the first time. The probe sent back some data and crashed on Jool's surface after taking some nice pictures. I even managed to get some science from Tylo and Laythe before the probe got captured into Jool's dark side and lost its batteries:

I installed the little KerbQuake Mod and did an IVA HKO flight with RasterPropMonitors and lotsa cams installed on my craft... sometimes the little things do all the tricks. And all it adds are shaky cams... makes IVA flight feel so much more alive. Awesome. I cant wait to see, what SQUAD will come up with visual candy, when they get to polish the game.

I built my first Heavy Launcher - I know the Transvaal might not be the biggest rocket out, but it only has 23 parts.

even in a inclined orbit, it was able to put 8+ tons (Stock Station Core) in a circled orbit 165k meters above kerbin with 2900 units of fuel left with me manually driving. However I will most likely lop off one of the fuel tanks on the 2nd stage as it is not easy to control, even with some reaction wheels to help. (This was a manual launch, I am sure someone could do a lot better with a autopilot.) The first stage consists of 4 veld (3 Jumbo-64 Fuel Tanks and a Mainsail engine) and the 2nd stage is another Veld with 3 reaction wheels to help keep it stable.)

Now that I messed around, time for me to actually keep a save and learn how to really play.

I am trying to get ahead on videos of my career mode, I hope to be able to get 2 more videos done this week. This way I can download and try the Better than Manned idea out for a future series.
