What did you do in KSP1 today?

just under 250 KM of driving a rover around Mimnus to complete three science contracts. The first was a single remaining experiment to complete a contract started by the first rover, which was eaten by the Kraken. Then it was a 70 km drive northwest to complete all 3 experiments on the next contract, then 175 km drive to the final contract (a not so direct route to collect science from biomes and to have only 1 climb down a 30 degree grade.

Finally, arrived at the spot for the final contract, only to find out I forgot to add one of the experiments to this rover. Took about 7 hours of driving to do, with a top speed of 33 m/s on the flats, and running between 5 and 10 m/s on the hills.

Now that's a nice looking shuttle.  Do you have a thread on this one?  Alternatively can you give any more information.  I'm interested in alternatives to my Buran and other's shuttles also!

I'm not quite finished with it yet, but when I am, I do plan on making a designated thread, yeah. Be patient!

got spaceplane to eve,not sure for now if i need a rescue mission for it ^_^

got this "lifter" to the orbit

going to kerbin orbit

I'm mainly just biding my time waiting for 1.1 by trying stuff and experimenting.

Tried (crashed) a small twin vector (seriously overpowered) VTOL just for fun and several pre-1.0.5 planes that I haven't used in ages. I'll need to redesign everything properly once the next release drops.

Today, I sent multiple spacecraft to Eve. Problem is, it wasn't supposed to be multiple spacecraft.

What happened was that the Eve probe was designed to travel on a mothership. So, I docked it without much difficulty, (Just kidding, I had to launch 6 times) and used my own excellent piloting skills to make a decent transfer to Eve. 200 days into the transit, I came out of time warp to do a orbital insertion burn retrograde. I got into a reasonably circular orbit, and prepared to deploy the probe. Then, as I was admiring my handiwork, I noticed that the orbit's perialpsis was 66,500 meters. I leave the rest to your imagination.

I crashed a lot of airplanes. Landing is hard; the brakes never seem to work very well and the aircraft always start to wobble, then smash themselves into bits...

In more positive news, I flew a number of successful space flights. I put two satellites into orbit, both carrying SCANSat Radar altimetry modules. The first one I launched with basically a Kerbal Thor-Burner and ended up in a highly elliptical orbit where the radar module wouldn't work half the time, but the other one was launched on a *Thor-Delta and ended up in a nice circular polar orbit where it is is busily making a map.

I also launched two Kerbals into orbit (Jeb followed by Val--I had flipped a coin and Val was the first one to space, so I decided Jeb ought to be the first one to orbit), but oddly enough never finished the contract I had for launching a Kerbal into orbit. The first time it wanted me to recover the booster's upper stage for some reason, the second time I can't figure out what the contract's problem was; it just refused to recognize that I had returned to Kerbin. Peculiar. I really want to clear this one out because I'm still on the tier-1 mission control center, so I can only take one other contract as long as it's active...

But how does it work?

Voodoo. Uses an "EJ" joint as a pivot for the gantry arm (small tank surrounded by cubic struts), and gets ejected from the craft by a decoupler and a small, mostly empty sepratron. The whole tower assembly is launch-clamped down with the clamps in a higher staging level.

Cosmetic only, but looks cool.

RO / RSS / RP-0 career is coming along nicely. After completion of my Gemini program, the Apollo project is taking shape...

Kourou spaceport before dawn. The crew of the first Apollo craft has boarded the new capsule atop a Merlin-Lifter. Their mission: to test the new equipment during a longer flight in low Earth orbit and verify that heatshield and chutes are working as expected during return...

KT8mHCz.jpg

As the first sunrays reached the spaceport, the "Go!" for launch was given and the Merlin-Rocket cleared the pad...

Leaving a cloud of dust behind...

And turning eastwards...

n6hOEla.jpg

At 40 km altitude, the launch boosters came off...

pdHs29u.jpg

Shortly afterwards, the first spaceship with a crew of three Astronauts entered space...

jPJxegl.jpg

3:20 minutes after take off at 170 km altitude: the first stage of the Merlin was empty. The connecting fairings were removed and seperation initiated. Simultaneously the aerodynamic shielding of the Apollo spacecraft was pulled off and the launch-escape-system was removed and shot ahead into space in a ball of fire... the process was quite a sight.

SQY2P6b.jpg

A second later the unleashed cluster of five J-2 series engines of the upper stage kicked in to propell the vessel into orbit...

xqgyszJ.jpg

Ten minutes after departure from Kourou, the actual spacecraft was released and the constant acceleration-forces stopped pushing. The crew could finally calm down...

VKDXRwR.jpg

They spent nearly two weeks in orbit untill Mission Control called them to return to the surface, which led to much cheering on board...

An hour later they were also able to report that heatshield and chutes seem to work all right. :)

Can you gif it? Curious to see how it works.

Took on yet another rescue to pad out my astronaut roster, someone stranded just outside of Minmus Mun, but as I burned to reach him, the capsule's predicted path suddenly changed -- to an impact on Minmus Mun.

It looks to be too far outside of Minmus SOI yet I'm looking at this path and I'm not sure what to do...

I created an SSTO spaceplane, the Z. desjardinii (named after my second-favorite fish, due to it's slight resemblance when looked at in a top-down view), played with it 'till it could make orbit with an ISRU unit aboard, and then constructed a classic-shaped rocket to refuel it. Docking was tricky due to forgetting rear-facing vernors, and forgetting vernors at the top part of the refueler. The spaceplane carries a PocketSub Mk II, the same sub model as the one currently on Laythe.

Edit: Some of the pictures in the album are outdated, so I need to go take some fresh new ones.
Edit 2: Updated the pictures in the album so all of them show the newest version of the Z. desjardinii, with it's new ISRUs and slightly extra fuel.

I also toyed with the missile on the PocketSub Mk II currently landed on Laythe (the same exact sub as in my signature picture). It can be launched from shallow depths or the surface, and has decent range (can fly more than 2 km and hit more than 100 m/s). I forgot to extend the antennae on the submarine and on the missile in the pictures below, sadly.GvzQuw7.pngebIfhMb.png

Unless you can really expedite the rendezvous, I think your rescuee is doomed.

Not much for planes but this is awesome!

It's the Super Chicken, powered by a single Juno engine. It's a bit deliberate in roll, but otherwise it flies rather well. and has a very low take-off speed.
