Yeee haw, might still get a little bit of good science out of the little guy after all.
Blaarkies
1 hour ago, RoboRay said: Here's a recent mission of mine... The craft is still out at the edge of Jool's SOI, but a flyby of Tylo completely captures the craft into orbit around Jool. An 88 m/sec burn after passing Tylo sets up a Laythe encounter, and another 525 m/sec is needed to capture at Laythe (whether by burn or aerobraking). Use Laythe more than once... The gravity assist at Laythe should put you in an orbit very similar to Laythe's orbit. From there, you might need to wait for 3 orbits or more and you should have an encounter with Laythe again, but this time you will enter Laythe SOI with minimal speed(you will enter with an "almost" elliptical orbit at Laythe)

In this case, I had plenty of excess fuel to burn in tanks that were about to be discarded so I just went for it. I sent a previous probe through a pinball-machine course of I-forget-how-many gravity assists to get hi/lo science data from all the Joolian moons for just a couple of hundred m/sec. Guest
I restarted my science save, now I've about finalised my modlist (it only took... months). It's going... swimmingly. Just as well I started using LES towers. Edited October 19, 2016 by Guest

something
Upgraded to 1.2 in the last days, ported my career save and decided to eventually activate the Comm Network. Will have to switch it on and off until I finally came to upgrade every single vessel out there, so that it has a good connection home. Well, as I am in year 6 - the year with that long time without transfer windows, that's a good thing to kill time....
eddiew
Onward, ever onward! Actually, mission control was eyeing up Neidon as the next destination, but its moon Thatmo seems like it might be suited for something a little more specialised than the excellent Numinor vacuum lander. Plock and Karen on the other hand... those are perfect for this high efficiency vehicle. So, a quick refuel in LKO, and it's time to step on the gas once more! It's possible to take up to 97 years to transfer to Plock, but since it only saves about 1km/s and the Odyssey is not exactly short of range, the crew quite wisely opts for the 16-year express route. By chance, Karen is right in front of us as we arrive, and since it doesn't really cost any more to circularise here vs Plock, the crew makes the call to visit the moon first. Mission control notes that their total funding has now gone round the clock on the counter. Nobody seems quite sure whether there are 101.5m funds in the bank, or 1.5m... Guess we'll find out when we try to spend it.
SkyHook
I tested and tweaked my Minmus Fuel Tug. WIth the 10m Heatshield, it only costs about 800d/v to get into a phasing orbit around Kerbin. Maybe 200d/v more and it would be rendezvoused with my main Fuel Depot. With some final tweaking, she is ready for service!!
EpicSpaceTroll139
Tried to continue using a Mun lander that was missing a leg to get more science. It worked fine on a flat surface, but then I tried landing in a hilly area. I paid too much attention to angling my lander so it wouldn't tip over, and as a result wasn't looking at the all important velocity and radar altitude indicators. It's missing more than a leg now. A new lander is on its way and its first mission after topping off at Mun Station l will be to fly down unmanned to pick up Mabeth Kerman, who was stranded by this incident. I also did a hop in a prototype reusable core stage after emptying most of the fuel out (If I crashed into the pad I didn't want the thing full of fuel, and I figured near-empty would better represent how it would be on return from orbit). Turned out I'd given myself exactly enough fuel for the hop. Edited October 20, 2016 by EpicSpaceTroll139 grammar OCD

RX2000
Put a survey scanner in polar orbit around Minmus. It was actually for a contract (well the contract called for a semi-equatorial kolniya orbit around Minmus with a survey scanner attached to the satellite, but I moved it into polar orbit after completing the contract to do the scan.) First step in creating my eventual Minmus mining/refueling setup.

The Aziz
Tried to build vertical start-land plane, but failed miserably, didn't move a bit. But successfully made drop pod detachable from "cargo bay" which was just closed fairing. And yes, plane ended up with a hole in the middle after drop. But thanks to Kerbal physics it could fly anyway.
Alpha 360
I decided to put together a large interplanetary cargo transporter. Using the Solaris Hypernauntics mods, I put on several of the blutonium engines with a mammoth in the middle with a stack of three tall 3.75 meter fuel tanks. I put six stubby fuel tanks around the central engine with the six blutonium engines. I intended the blutonium engines to detach but once I got it into orbit, the first stage still had about 80% fuel left. And I had a mammoth. So, if I had multiple solar systems, inter-system cargo transporter? Does anyone have any suggestions for multiple star system mods updated to 1.2? capi3101
(1.1.3, 3 to go) Began last night's shenanigans by putting the Beep-Beep 7c probe into its final position on my laptop career save. Thing was seven degrees off the axis of its plane but the game gave it to me anyway, so I'm not complaining. While I was doing that, I fiddled with using Debug menu to make the Explore Minmus contract appear, having read how to do that online earlier in the day. Despite not knowing what the crap I was doing, I somehow managed to make the contract appear, so I loaded up Juluna aboard another Flaming Death Trap 7 craft and shot her butt out towards Minmus. That gets me Bob headed towards Mün and Juluna headed towards Minmus at the same time, so I expect that I'll be raking in the sci pretty toot-sweet... Also managed to rescue Buremy Kerman with a Gurney 7 craft prior to his encounter with Mün. Treated it like a long-range asteroid intercept, zeroing out the relative velocity at the point where paths the two craft crossed, then maneuvering for rendezvous. The Gurney 7 craft has about 400 m/s of delta-V remaining post-maneuvers, and I'm trying to figure out how to get back to Kerbin on that amount; I'll probably have to get a gravity assist from Mün to pull it off. Tried (and reverted) that last night - the ultimate trajectory would've flung the craft out of Kerbin's SOI with no gas... Since I've got the Explore Minmus contract in the books, I have no qualms now about sending two more Beep-Beep 7 probes to Minmus for contracts there. I'll probably start setting those up to fly tonight.
Bowman
Landing on Mars - Kerbal Near-Future-Style As mentioned in my last post I run a RSS-KSP-Career-Save on SMURFF and with the Near Future Propulsion / Electrics Mod. Now it's time to bring Kerbals down to Mars and safely back into orbit with a single-stage-lander. Spoiler The Lander is autonomous with a probe core, nuclear reactor, small ore-rifining instruments. The four powerful engines with great ISP in thin atmosphere are from the Cryogenic Engines mod (ksp-fuels-config). All stats can be seen in the screenshot. 3,6km/s dv is needed for a Mars-landing. So there is roughly 1,2-1,4km/s left when the craft hovers over the surface. The parachute is just necessary in case of failure when the capsule itself needs to strand savely on the red planet. So this is a strict supersonic retropropulsive landingsystem. Landing burn starts at around 30km height at 3400m/s and ends when all horizontal speed is killed. Airbrakes look nice - but there is simply no "air" at all. Thinking of "no air": The heatshield is massively overpowered for a not-RO-game. After deceleration there were 7 units of abletor gone. So a future design can operate without heat shielding on entrys out of Low Mars Orbit. The 2,5m- docking port underneeth is able to carry a base instead of a heatshield and transforms the lander into a skycrane. Remember: 1,4km/s dV to spare. Hovering after entry: Landed on the day Schiaparelli might not made it.... Let's hope the best for ESA. Shortly after landing the harvest-operation begins, scientific data is gathered and flags are planted. The refueling needed 100 days to complete. Objective for version 2: bring the larger drills, increase the bottoms diameter and choose bigger legs to make the craft landable in all terrain, also put the engines back at the bottom. Launch back to the nuclear-lithium transfer-vehicle. Once the re-assembled ship gets back to the mun Phobos, the fuel-fascillity there well refuel the ship for its next mission. Lift Off! G-turn already done a few thousand metres above the surface. Gaining orbital velocity (3400m/s) now. Back at Phobos for refueling purposes:
