What did you do in KSP1 today?

In partnership with Garrison Chisholm a fellow forumer, developed a fictional successor to the Avro Vulcan bomber.

Christened the TXR-3 Valiant, this Mach 3.6+ strike aircraft is capable of intercontinental range and certainly looks fetching with Concorde style engines and a circular tail feathers!

I worked further on my PID controller in kOS and made a basic jet engine hovering. Then I did a quatrocopter, with jet engines ;)

Well, currently it's just climb rate control controlled by the throttle input. Next thing is to switch to direct engine control. And then I'm going to try to make a real VTOL control with offset engines and such, so I don't have to care about the CoM anymore. And then, I wont talk about what I'll do then ;)

VTOL to the heli pad on the VAB:

On the, uh, contracts(?) building:

And my quatrocopter ;)

Got a probe in an eccentric orbit around Kerbin, waiting for a Jool transfer window. Got a shuttle in obit working to put together a refueling station. It's kind of tough going, because I can't seem to attach equipment to my station (using KIS) not sure what I'm doing wrong. Some things attach, but others don't.:confused:

Redesigned my Kerballed Serran lander to be lighter and more streamlined. I've ended up with something very Apollo-esque: first stage powered by four Skippers, second by four LV-T45's, third by one LV-T45, then a CSM with a 909 and a 2-stage lander.

Hope it flies well, because one Apollo feature I don't have is an escape tower!

EDIT: Since someone asked after it, here's how I do my upper-stage engine cluster. https://flic.kr/p/xGsjp3

Support piece attached to the stack node of the upper stage tank. I-beam would be better but part limitations, the girder works OKish. Decoupler needs to detach that support piece. In some clusters you might instead have a central engine.

Any part attached radially to the upper tank and gizmoed into place makes the engine mounts.

Fairing makes it all neat and aerodynamic.

Struts from upper tank down to fairing base give required rigidity. I hope.

Have you made an entry into the VAB challenge in /r/kos? It looks like you've got all the parts in place to do so, and the contest is closing after the end of the weekend.

Hello Steve,

this sounds like an interesting challange, but I'm missing several important parts of the code to do this. I currently switch SAS on and control the thing with the keyboard. No direction control, no "i'm here, go there" yet and not enough time to write and test this. My code is still very clumsy and I have to learn much before I can enter such a challange.

Stranded Jeb on our first orbit with no power...

This calls for EVAing and pushing ;)

Staging should work without power...

Played latest version BD Armory but sadly AIs still has no tactical strategy with the advantage of the planes capability, kinda hope future BDA will allow strategy/flight pattern programming.

Wings got blown off in the fight - still in control

I am always inspired by what I read in this forum. I check every day to see what wonderful missions are flying, craft developed or stories are being told. :)

My 1.0.2 career mode got stagnant about month and a half ago (earth time), I had stations up over Kerbin, Mun and Minmus, I had saved lots of Kerbinauts landing throughout the local Kerbin system and had robotic landers on Duna, Dres and Moho. I had to expand the manned (Kerbal) space program also I needed science unlock mining equipment.

I cannot play very often due to other commitments, so of course I started my new space program small !!!! Of course not I had just finished reading Andy Weir’s The Martian so I decided that the best way to upgrade science and experience was to build in orbit a ship similar to the book’s Earth to Mars ship to go to Duna.

Designing and building “Duna One – Watney†(after the main character of the book) took 2 weeks:-

Built in orbit

Departing Kerbin (6 x nuclear engines in a pulling configuration)

It took me 3 save games to survive aerobraking into Duna orbit

I landed Kerbals on Duna and Gilly and managed to bring the science and experience home -- Sufficient to unload mining equipment.

That was about a week ago, tonight I have just landed mining base on Minmus I will post this later.

I wanted to make a tavern out of some generic medieval tavern plans found on the internet. Little did I know the same design could yield a pleasant little kolonial style residence.

Today Mortimer, the old party-pooper, Mortimer_Kerman.jpg said, we need to save money on our missions. So Linus Linus_Kerman.jpg, Bob Bob_Kerman.jpg and the others came up with a simple but effective idea to do rescue missions including the pods now with a shuttle. They simply added a claw on top of the shuttle. Despite some concerns about aerodynamic and such, the first test mission prooved them right. It actually worked perfect.

Here the shuttle after picking up a Hitchhiker can from orbit. Sorry for the dark image, but according to Murphy all interesting things always take part on the dark side of something.

The shuttle including the can was very stable during reentry.

And finally the payload was delivered to KSC, right to the hangar doors.

Even Mortimer was impressed with how little we spent on getting this can down.
