Rune
landing an almost empty SSTO ? Most SSTO's are "almost empty" when the come back down. Oh and FYI. MULLET was built TO be basic. Also I've landed, Mmm countless SSTO's, most "almost empty" and while I dont have and mods to make it more realistic or any mods at all atm I do understand that that landing that massive amount of tanks without parachute's would be a challenge not that I ever said it would be infact I never mentioned anything about the flight difficulty.Oh and Rocket only SSTO challenge accepted Rune Thank you for the inspirationHum. "Almost empty" on this context is less than thirty seconds of engine power available in the tanks when starting the deorbit burn. Tried that? But glad to see you are going to experiment for yourself. Tip: you don't want to turn on the engines until you are under 1000m, and you only want to turn them on at 100% thrust to minimize gravity losses.Rune. Good luck on your testing! DunaRocketeer
How did I miss this thread?!I've been working on my own SSTO over the past week or two, making refinements as I fly. This is the prototype 'Columbia';After doing a few missions with Columbia, I created 'Challenger' which is an incrementally more capable design; At some point I'll make 'Discovery' which will be a satellite launcher version. DunaRocketeer
Thanks, kopapaka I'm going to be away from a pc all weekend, but I can probably get a craft file up early next week - it might be quicker just to copy the design from the images here . Are you on .24 with KW Rocketry? It uses tanks from KW.Also, do you want the shuttles as well as the ground support vehicles?

TheBarnetts
Here is my work-in-progress cargo SSTO, just called the C3 for now. It can get to orbit with over half the fuel it started with, but it needs some structural reinforcement (like to shake itself apart with SAS at only x2). Has a working ramp and plenty of room in the fuselage for rovers, stations, etc. Also comes with a cockpit ejector for those that may want the challenge of no-saves. Not sure how much it can carry just yet... will post the .craft file when all the kinks are worked out.Javascript is disabled. blowfish
Nice work. For future reference, you can embed imgur albums without the whole frame. In your case it would like this:[imgur]UWpGW[/imgur]

TheBarnetts
Neato man, do you know how much you want it to be able to lift into orbit? Thanks! My goal was to lift at least one orange tank, one large monoprop tank for a little fuel station (40 tons roughly); this also was to simulate larger ship components used for construction of large vessels in orbit. I added some more pics to the album of the trip. Now I just need to see if it can take more... and fix the ramp . It pops open during time accel in space... Anyway, thanks for the compliment Just use the end of the url and change the tags to imgur rather than url or whatever. It's a lot easier to view photos when you don't have the rest of the imgur frame in there too

inigma
Here's just a thing I've been working on:Plover mk4http://i.imgur.com/7LHmlxU.jpgMinmus-return capable, not too complicated (67 parts; two action groups), pretty nice-looking and flies well. .craft file coming soon Submit that thing to SSI. inigma
This should survive the upcoming 0.25 and 0.26 without issues... as there is no lift-producing part in there. Also, my first antenna door!http://i.imgur.com/9dM5cC2.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/RmuOwAw.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/yGryVu0.pngShort of a crew transport. Four seats in the "interior", and enough oomph, chutes and VTOL systems to do its thing (go up and down) anywhere up to and including Kerbin and Duna.Rune. Somehow it reminds me of a chibi-Falcon... or at least something made in Corellia.Rune, is this thing capable of SSI certification? 120km undock and land at KSC and return to 120km docked? ScriptKitt3h
Utterly beautiful. Can you find a way to clip into a system capable of landing that thing on an airless body? It does have a belly-mounted docking port, so an IP ring/lander addon should work. You just gave me an idea...
Rune
Rune, is this thing capable of SSI certification? 120km undock and land at KSC and return to 120km docked?I totally forgot about that! And since I have run into a bit of a snafu with the Quinjet (I reworked the rover and now the bay door doesn't want to work for some reason :S), perhaps I should finish that up and release that instead. Or the Dart, that one is also awaiting. In fact, I have to pretty much redo all my SPH section, adn I have the files for that. If only I had the time to test and write posts about that! But yeah, it should do 120km without issues, IIRC.Rune. It can do Duna SSTO, according to my post, so lots of rocket delta-v on top of the airbreathers. Rakaydos
My first successful cargo SSTO, second flight. Payload is 3 ion probes. (add your own science gear) Has reserve fuel in the inline intakes and the foreward hull, but that affects the vessels stability.Cargo by is large enough for a NERVA + FLT-200 + Mk1 pod. Presumably it will also fit a NERVA +FLT-400+ 1.5m docking collar. Either is useful for assembling a larger vessel in orbit. There is also a inline Clampatron on the belly at the center of mass, and concealed monoprop tanks accessable through a clip through the hanger bay: Edited November 4, 2014 by Rakaydos
