Can anyone dock this?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

I think i can say, that i'm pretty good at KSP. I never loosed a Kerbal. I once had to rescue three from the Mun, but that wasn't a problem ;)

I'm also pretty good at Docking. I once had a combiend mission: a taxi with a lander with two landingmodules(Ike and Duna) and two unmaned rovers(ike and Duna), everything docked together!

But now im struggling.... I want to build a Spacestation, command, comunication, solars, habitats, some fuel, the usual thing.

But the game seems to be too bugged for that! i alread have the command, two solarmoduels and two researchmoduels docked together, but the Habitat just is impossible to dock(it seems so...)

To these bugs: the station is in space and no force is working on it. and then, suddenly, it starts a harlem shake and freaks out till it breaks down. i figured out how to fix this: you either have to go back to the space center or quicksave and load it.

the problems with docking: the first one is this harlemshaking. because of that you have to interrupt the docking work for fixxing this

the second one is, that the module is pretty heavy and it seems the magnatism of the dockingports is too weak to force the module in position.

the third one is conected to the first one: after such a harlem shake, the station is sometimes a bit rotated

the fourth is also conected to the first and third: because of the harlem shakes and the time loss, the sation rotates out of position

So, can anyone help me with my problem and dock that for me?(i'll upload the save)

(Can anyone tell me how to fix the harlem shake once and forever? Would it help, if i dock ASASs to the solarmodules?)

greetings

stoani

PS: I DO NOT want to use mods like mechjeb!!

the shaking is mostly likely caused by the fact that, currently, SAS mode tries too hard to hold a station still and actually CAUSES shaking instead of stopping it. Try leaving SAS turned off on the target station. If it starts to drift, go in and out of warp for a second, which automatically kills all rotations.

You can solve all those problems with 2 things.

1. Rebuild your station with quantum struts at the berthing locations. Each new module you launch should have some.

2. Each time before you dock a new module to it orient your station so that the target docking ports entry vector is parallel to kerbins rotational axis. Then Disable RCS and enable SAS.

The station will stay in one place without wobbling and docking will be very easy.

There were about 4 or 5 big threads created about wobbling space stations before but they were completely ignored by the developers. The only advice I can give is that turning on time warp and turning it off stops all the wobbling :)

There was actually a post by one of the developers specifically about this in the last weekly update

I’ve been working on new SAS / ASAS behavior for the last week. We’re aiming to reduce or eliminate the oscillations that happen in the current system. We’re also removing the automatic torque from command pods and replacing it with a reaction wheel system. The new reaction wheels will actually require power to operate.

Your problem is being afriad of tools. They do nothing but help.

Anyway, turn of SAS. If it's already stable, it won't change. Also when you are about to dock, turn of SAS on the craft you CONTROL. SAS actually blocks the magnetic docking, cause it prevents the perfecting alining

i meant lost... sry i'm from austria....

i KNOW how to dock! turn of sas, rotate target in good position, etc...

But the problem is this harlemshake

I'm not sure, but i think it also starts without SAS on

please, can anyone try to dock this?

quantum struts are very good for making multidocked stations more rigid.

The only thing they do is provide cross docking port struts, some folk may think it's cheating but some folk seem to think what other people do is their business.

I downloaded your save and gave it a look, the 'harlem shake' you're talking about is your station's ASAS. I turned it off and there was no shaking. After that however the docking port you had pointed at the station on the hab module refused to dock. I turned the docking module around and it docked straight away with no effort. Not sure if you'd gotten the docking glitch on that port from a previous attempt, design flaw or just a control location issue, I couldn't be bothered troubleshooting it.

1. Turn off ASAS

2. Turn your hab module around.

3. Dock

4. ???

5. Profit

ok, I just loaded up the save file. The ASAS on the station was enabled, which was causing the small shakes and random rotation after a while. the docking port wouldn't work for me (haven't explored why) but if you turn the hab around, it will dock with the other docking port.

The second time I loaded up the save (to try again) I bumped the station which then caused it to go very shaky. And I really don't think it's a strutting issue, the solar panel sections were rotating violently along the long axis. but try turning off the asas on the station, turning the hab around and then docking gently.

HOW TO FIX THE DOCKING PORT

1. Go into the persistent.sfs file

2. Search for a line which says "state = Acquire"

3. Change to "state = Ready"

4. Load up the game and dock with the port nearby.

I DID IT!

Thanks so much!

i cant belive that this was only because there was "Acquire" instead of "ready"...

Best community ever! ;D

I am under the impression that your station was doing the harlem shake (LOL! btw) because ASAS was enabled on the station, not because the docking port wouldn't work.

yeah, it did the shake, because of the ASAS(btw. also a few times, when i rotated it...), but this wasn't the real problem, because now it has also harlem shaked, but i did it anyway.

i just wanted to say, that my english isn't the best, because it isn't my native language

So what if it it's not.

I told you, I'm from Austria as well, I don't use it as an excuse when I say something incorrectly.
