jlcarneiro
Creative method to do it. Good to know. But there is a simpler way: By opening the editor extension debug window. There you can see all information about a part. Rotation, position both local and global, etc... Say you want to adjust an antenna on top of a Stayputnik, center it with the 'V' and/or 'H' key then set the editor to rotate mode (press 3 by default) and set snap angle to disabled. Click on the antenna with the debug information window open and look at the different rotation values. Click and drag the rotate widget until you have what you want. Note that the farther away from the widget center you are (click and hold and move left or right toward the edge of the screen), the more precise the rotation becomes...
Didn't know that, thanks! linuxgurugamer
For anyone interested, I just released a new merged mod: https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/1342/EditorExtensionsRedux This merges this mod along with the SelectRoot mod, and is compatible with 1.0.
Hyomoto
I didn't even know Select Root was around since the whole implementation into the base game but wouldn't you know, it is! I don't think I need the functionality it provides so probably just wait for this one to get updated vanilla or keep using it until it breaks. But thanks for the effort! FWIW, I had the exact same question and concern. But I went to the new thread and found this helpful bit, so I'm at least open minded! Quote Select Root Functionality Squad added a root part selection mode to stock. But it's a bit awkward to use. This plugin fixes the following things: Only one click needed. Just click on the part you want to be the new root. Works if you're already hovering the new part. No more mouse wiggling to get the selection to register. Drops the new root, so you can grab something else immediately. Select Root Usage: Enter root selection mode and click on the new root part. Root selection mode is one of the buttons on top next to the rotate and offset gizmos. Or just press
Hyomoto
Well, I did the same research but to me it doesn't seem to 'fix' anything other that a minor awkwardness I'm completely accustomed to and don't mind. The only thing I could consider of minor use is the 'drops the new root' part, but that seems like a heck of a chance to take on the possibility it might cause other issues elsewhere. Perhaps not; perhaps I'm just paranoid. Still, since the old version seems to work okay, the new version doesn't fix any bugs, and the addition of another bit of functionality I'm not necessarily keen on means I might adopt it eventually but for right now I'd rather wait and see if someone else will do the same thing without merging it with another mod.
