You had to rework the .mu files for legs, right? I haven't seen "WheelCollider" colliders in them before.

Anyway, great job! My tiny little cute lander probes are very happy to have both compact and WORKING legs again!

Yeah I added dummy objects to satisfy the leg module for the piston operation, but they're scaled and placed in such a way that they don't affect the leg operation. They probably won't "break" properly though (do the legs even do that?)

Idea: make a NovaPunch legacy pack, containing the old obsolete stuff that some people (read: me) still like. Basically just the old Odin, so that we can use both at the same time.

EDIT: And also the 3.125m fairings.

Bugs so far:

Javascript is disabled. View full album

Pic 1: Smoke effects is offset on Odin Heatshield\landing module

Pic 2: Not sure if it's NP or KSP bug. The problem: symmetry isn't working for that particular node. To recreate this, place heatshield (don't rotate it - just grab from the list and place), enable 4x symmetry and then try to place landing leg on this node.

Symmetry works if:

- placing leg to another node

- rotating heat shield before placement (in this case, all 4 nodes work)

They do. Especially when chute-landing something HEAVY on Eve's surface. It looks like removing suspension limits, so that piston falls all the way in. So, it may probably work with current config, as it does have a suspension.

Alright, I think it might be a smart idea to remove the smoke from the Odin Heatshield's engines. They make ridiculous amounts of the stuff, and it gets hard to see where you're landing. Oh, and I do not have the problem with offset smoke, but a sure way of fixing it would be to remove it entirely. Also, the legs work for me no matter what node I place them on, even when I haven't rotated the heatshield beforehand.

Heh, I was interested in seeing if that attachment bug happened to everyone. I guess it must be a KSP bug, as I've tweaked everything I could think of to make it work. It's easy to make work though, when you snap it into its node (with 4x on) hit Q without moving it, and it'll start working.

Removing the smoke is probably a good idea, its pretty annoying.

Edit: About the legacy stuff - I've tried that before and didn't find it worth the trouble. I wouldn't want to keep updating them for new content (like career budgets) and I can dig up old versions of the downloads if people want certain things for some reason.

I'm a little curious about what you're missing about the old Odin. It was pretty rough looking.

Legacy stuff: The "Smart" way is to keep them for one update, then remove them. What I mean:

Old radial chutes was removed in 2.05. Instead of just removing them, keep them for one update - they are there in 2.05, but they're removed in 2.06. Put a note about that in readme and forum post, so people would know that these parts are legacy and they shouldn't use them for their designs.

This would allow people to update their designs without having to copy old parts from deprecated version.

Readmes? Who reads those... >.>

Anyway: that attach bug is a problem with stock parts, yes. Can't remember where I read a discussion of it, but it's certainly present in the stock Hub, which you usually have to rotate some before you can attach.

Yeah I vaguely even remember someone figured out what the issue was with the hub, but that was ages ago. Given that there are prebuilts and subassemblies provided, I don't anticipate messing with it again.

Not entirely happy with the heatshield/leg combo anyway. I had to alter it when I found that it had to be a separate part, and I think its quality drags the rest of Odin down a little bit.

It sure is cool to do a powered landing though.

Okay, I fixed that door alignment and removed the smoke from the lander engines.

Also going to tweak the foot colliders on the legs so they dont sink below the ground.

I was honestly expecting more bugs than this. Any feelings on the balance of things? (Masses for parts, fuel loads, etc.)

As much as I like the new Odin, I still think the old one is pretty cool too. It has a very distinctive shape, and I quite like that. Anyway, I will volunteer for keeping a version of the Old Odin with those fairings available and updated.

EDIT: Oh, and after flying the white New Odin, I think that the specular might be a bit overdone. Maybe you should try toning it down a little. The black New Odin is fine.

Heh the specular is literally as low as it can go. It was the same on both pods, actually. Its uniform spec on the material and its turned down as far as possible on the material in blender and in Unity KSP just doesn't handle those whites very well. It would probably look better with baked specs, but I don't know how to do that properly.

I'm working on a new heat shield. Landing legs suck, but it'll work soon. I hope.

Here's the new shield and the tweaks required to the trunk and fairing fittings, and the other 2 fixes. (As well as yet-again rebuilt craft files. Every. Single. One of them. Thanks KSP)

(If you haven't downloaded the previous Beta, its HERE. Install it first, then the supplimental. Instructions on what to overwrite/remove in the text file inside)

Test this out thoroughly tomorrow (Sunday) for any last minute issues, I want to release it Monday and move on to other things before we hit 0.24 territory again and I have to startt working on the budget system.

New heatshield looks good so far. I like the fact that you must use engines to land the stock 2-chute Odin (or it can crash or topple) Absence of smoke is kinda disappointing, though.

One small suggestion for a future updates: 2.5m probe lander core with SAS and good amount of ECharge, made to fit Odin heatshield. Flat top for instruments, antennas, chutes etc. Just like 3.125m fairing plate from the old Odin, which was exceptionally good for this role.

Heh, 2 parachutes being on the edge of safety was purely by accident. There's definitely room for 4 if you need them though, so I'll leave it. For the smoke, with the way it works in KSP it just tends to mask the ship making manual landing rather difficult. Anyone else have an opinion on the smoke? I can probably stick an alternate config with the smoke back in there (renamed so it doesn't get loaded)

Dragon1: Have you downloaded NP since the last version? There's a 2.5m 3, 4 and 5 segment "SSRB" in there - its the one I made for the Shuttle mod.

Any specific Ares parts would probably show up over there too. I already have the SSRBs (they're not quite 2.5m over there, and there's an adapter to go up to a crew pod Ares I style) and all the Orange tanks, but its more Jupiter DIRECT than Ares. It's all shuttle-derived stuff anyway. Mainly it would be a 1st stage engine for Ares instead of Jupiter, and then some upper stages (none at all over there yet, its just the main launchers)

We'll see, but I have so much other stuff lined up to work on, it could be a while.

Parts updated:

All remaining animated landing legs now function fully

All remaining parachutes now function fully.

The old radial chute by Capt Slug is now a drogue chute

The Freyja pod was remodeled

The Freyja trunk now has separate engines you must attach manually (and its texture was tweaked)\

The Freyja RCS/Docking port has a new docking model to match the new NP docking interface.

Parts added:

Well its been quiet in here. I haven't really been seeing many downloads of the new version either, so I guess a lot of people are waiting for 0.24 at this point (or this NP update was underwhelming, I can accept that too.)

I'm working on the shuttle mod now, and should be until 0.24 is out and I get a chance to work on budgetary things. Still, please report any issues you find here in the thread, I maintain a list to work on during updates.

GoldForest: I have had that happen a couple of times too, but not every time. And it seems to only be the white Odin capsule. Airlock colliders are weird. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Tiberion, I myself am waiting for .24 before I upgrade my chosen mods, your Novapunch pack being one of my main go to mods for parts :) Well, it that, and I have multiple vessels I need to double check to see if the removed parts you deleted from the pack breaks anything lol.
