Damn, your minishuttle really flies like a dream.

Haha brilliant thanks for the feedback Yukon0009, I think that's only got 1 SAS module! with a bit of practice that thing can get to space basically hands free. The micro-shuttle flies like a dream on and after re-entry too!

Midi-shuttle in final testing and should be very similar in characteristics to the micro. Maxi-shuttle still firmly in R+D.

More like 200 parts worth of vernors.

I think I limited my self to less than 5 reaction wheels and less than 10 vernors on mine... Then again, I used all the tricks in the bag of blancing, including fiddling with the thrust on the SRBs so that their thrust curve was flatter, draining the fuel in the ET from the back forwards, etc...

Rune. I didn't have KER's torque indicator available back then, though.

I use huge amounts of vernors because I don't use KER.

Vernors? What are vernors? Am I missing something magical here? Never used them. Couldn't think of a reason to. Maybe I need a vernor education if you're using them to help with torque control... anyone want to be my teacher?

ooh i get it now. i thought those things only used oxidizer and rcs fuel, not oxy and liquid fuel. *smacks head* hey anyone know how much they can be used to eliminate the 30 or so SAS modules on the STS-3? Looking for an overall part reduction to the STS-3 without loss of mission capability. I wonder if the real space shuttle used vernors though... and if not, if using them would further remove the STS-3 from its visual NASA-replicaness...

I have an engineering challenge for anyone interested. Can someone redesign the STS-3 to use SRBs AND be able to lift the STS Fuel Pod subassembly to 300km without tapping into it, and return the shuttle to KSC on its own fuel? I've not been able to successfully meet that level of current performance with the current STS-3 Naito class liquid boosters.

Well, they have a decent amount of thrust. But since we are talking torque here, and the other variable for that is arm length... see where I am going with this? Put them at the tip of the ET and at the bottom of the shuttle, so they have a huge lever arm, and they create proportionately huge torque. I reckon you could take out pretty much 29 of the 30 reaction wheels if you add enough of the suckers (10 or so? Depends on the torque and where your CoM is and stuff, experiment) and you shuttle is balanced for OMS. They do suck fuel, of course, but they simplify the electric needs a lot, and being physic-less instead of 200kgs, you know, there is that going for them, much less dry weight. Pro-tip: action-group your standard RCS so you can toggle them off to save RCS fuel during ascent.

Oh, and if you are worried about the realism... think of them as engine gimbal (control at the expense of fuel, since thrusting sideways is inefficient), and you will see how it is MUCH more realistic than 30 magic reaction wheels that can right a whole shuttle stack and don't need to ever discharge the momentum.

My supposed interstellar tug. It's completely useless for its intended purpose. Tested it in orbit once, only to find I'd forgotten things like reaction wheels, and electricity. But I like the aesthetics of the engines (they're just LV909s tucked away). I also re-engined it with Nukes (but they're not aesthetically pleasing) - and again, useless because it's TWR is so pony that by the time you load it up with anything worth tugging you're going to spend days watching it burn... Perhaps I'll revisit at a later date and add MOAR BOASTERS! 100t seems excessive for a tug?

Working on the mk7 now, decided it is time to use mods on the design, i dont think the stock wheels can take any more.

Still not close on where i want it to be, but getting there, idk if i will go with the hover craft idea in the end but its still pretty neato.

Here's a somewhat unusual "double breadbox" super-heavy SSTO design. 330 tons on the runway, 2 full orange tanks as cargo... and 2 boxes...

Takeoff went fine with a bit help from the mainsails.

Ascent went fine to 10km, from there the vernors had to help to keep it pointed up.

Made up to 1600 m/s before I had to switch to rockets.

600 m/s dV in orbit - and horrible amounts of oxidizer left.

Unloading the cargo was bad as I released both at once and I had no vernors for reverse-thrust. A bit rotating, shifting around finally did the job.

Reentry was fine until ~10km, then the double breadbox decided to turn around. See pics for the most awesome landing I ever did in KSP :)

I haven't been posting much recently but I've still been playing KSP! Here's some stuff I made.

Ariane 5 - I made an old one almost a year ago that wasn't very good. I've updated it with better boosters, new engine, new ATV, interstage, and a better nosecone

60 metric ton Lifter - Note: full credit to Kurotenshi for the fairings and inspiration for the ullage motors comes from GusTurbo's Saturbo V. I suck at making them so I just stole borrowed his. This one takes inspiration from the Proton rocket in its first stage setup, but lifts much more payload and only uses four engines instead of six

Edit: so yeah, I accidentally overwrite the 60t lifter... quite angry about that. Will have to rebuild now, shouldn't be to bad but it's still frustrating.

The STS-4 and a scene from a new video I'm making for it and all its subassemblies (the elevator is a subassembly too). The shuttle and subs are all done. The video is still a WIP. 90% of my filming is complete. Lots of work.
