Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Another mod I'm creating. Contents: warp core, phasers, impulse engines, photon torpedoes. Maybe also phaser capacitors to keep propulsion and weapons separated. Anyone who's played Klingon Academy or Bridgecommander knows how much fun this can be. Problem with the AI: It doesn't understand changing attitude to shield vulnerable parts, because it never had to.

This arena: gravity at 0.001, atmo pressure at 0.4. I would love to do it in space but BDA doesn't understand space and keeps firing in front of the enemy.

Great fun!

You laugh now, but what happens next time you forget a ladder? Do you think this is Spacecraft Friday material @Rune ? ;) Can you believe that is 35 parts!

They are actually modelled after these, a little......

I think it's brilliant, whether it makes SCF or not! Although to be honest, to be SCF material, I would pair it with a puller truck, and maybe a bus for the passengers, even a fuel truck. You know, offer the whole range of spaceport services under, say, 150 parts.

Rune. Long time since I've seen that kind of stuff.

These aren't flying quite right, so I made lawn art out of em!  I can't get any lift out of the engine nacelles on the micro Enterprise, it just flips over on take off.

@PointySideUp

Just an fyi,

This is the reason @Azimech used the propulsion on the back of the saucer section

Even then, the mass must be concentrated in/near the saucer as much as possible. It took me many hours of tweaking. Eventually I had the tanks, SAS modules, batteries and engines in the saucer, and a pile of wings and control surfaces in the engineering hull.

Do they fly under normal settings? ie, without hack gravity?

There are two versions. The airplane version is 100% stock and flies without hack, the modded version is non-grav only, as they are meant for space. I could put phasers on the airplane version as well

That looks incredible, I think the problem would be the gravity curve. @BahamutoD probably has a calculation of a shell dropping over it's flight due to gravity and thats why the AI shoots in front of where your craft is, it simply needs the addition of local gravity into the calculation. (simply being codeword for much more complex than I think).

@CommanderSpock is the next maintainer SM.

I know I was just joking, I know Rune likes more...stuff that goes to space

On the next post picture you can see the fuel truck in the background, these steps are for the SR-71 and so are a bit high for the F-4 in the picture. I'm going for Vietnam era so the pilots might just drive up in a jeep.

There's a parameter, as strange as it sounds for a laser: projectile speed. It was set at 860. I changed it to 86000. No difference. So whatever it is that needs to be changed, He probably knows it.

Just found this, not sure if you already know

Pssssssst... *cue shameless advertising* I built some airport vehicles myself, though not all are under 150 parts. Also, there isn't a refueling truck as I can't get the claw to attach to random objects..

These are specifically Vietnam era though, and deployment gear, not airport gear, though I think a well stocked airport should have some vehicles, they make the craft screenshots so much better, like Majorjim's x-37 with all the little vehicles

Yup! And as well as looking kewl it is really fun to refuel aircraft and fly again without leaving in-game.

Alright, I've tested the Gato class submarine with Mk 2 cargo bay ballast tanks (what do you know, they do fit!), and there was no noticeable difference in the buoyancy. I'll try more balancing later, but for now, here's a few pictures.

n7AewLw.png

In the air (Vessel Mover mod). I've made a sort of keel out of fuel tanks in the hopes that it would prevent capsizing, but as I learned, it does nothing whatsoever.

Hx1cBju.png

Periscopes extended. If nothing else works on this evil ship, at least the periscopes work right.

g1a5ZuH.jpg

It gets 13 m/s in the water, but it rolls so much that capsizing is inevitable, although the center of mass is either at or below the waterline. If I can't get the ore tanks to sink the thing, I'm going to have to do it the old fashioned way; add a bunch of downwards facing turbojets and push!

I'm still looking for that priest, you know.

to stop capsizing you have to spread the buoyancy across the width, like with the ironclads, some empty liquid fuel tanks placed at strategic places will give you more in water stability. The sinking part is another thing, I think the differences in cargo bay buoyancy is minimal and the ship must be close to sinking anyway.

Tonight on Columbia's Attempts And Adventures At Learning BDArmory™, I finally shot down an aircraft!

AnAk3w1.gif

Also, I pulled off perhaps the most beautiful formation I've ever done, with Me 262s:

And finally, I added rockets as part of the Me 262's armament. In total, the entire thing's.. wait for it..
319 parts.
