The ARM megathread

Rigid joints is in ARM, I believe .24 only has contracts now... That update really shrunk lol
Hopefully this means that ARM won't break or spoil existing career saves, while .24 can be the one that overhauls career mode.

Rowsdower sorry to add to the list of questions, but when you say embargo, what do you mean? Like just the waiting period? Or a ban or something...

A waiting period, pretty much. A plan that states that info/media is able to be released on a certain day, but not a moment before. That day is today.

Unfortunately we're not, Avera9eJoe. There are still some things to be ironed out with the update. The embargo was lifted on media and info about ARM. We would directly acknowledge a release date otherwise.

Hi Rowsdower! Couple of questions here:

1) We already know that some mods will work on 0.23.5, and some won't (Unity update and all that). So I presume complex things like MechJeb, FAR or KJR will require updating - but what about simple part packs like KW, NovaPunch or FASA? Is there some new strings in the part.cfg, like in 0.22, or we will be able to load use our modded rockets without any problems?

2) Speaking of mods - how much RAM will 0.23.5 use?

1) According to the devs, the plugin-less mods should be fine unless they are somehow incompatible with how the new joints work.

2) Once again, according to the devs, there may be a slight amount of extra memory used, but they've done their best to minimize the amount.

I was excited before I saw that vid...

now it's just "GIMME!!!" (I know, I have to wait like everyone else...)

I just feel a bit cheated, because this is meant to be an alpha/beta, hence we should test it, it feels like we have to wait for the update AND also playtest it somehow...

Would you rather have every iteration and test it without any QA phase by a team working closely with the devs?

It is physically impossible to allow everybody playtest every new thing. 90% of people would simply complain that their stuff broke, drowning out the other 10% who were trying to give useful bug reports. They'd be better off doing no QA testing at all than to open it to the entire community.

You're going to get a better product faster by this method, though I agree it's painful to know it's out there being played but we can't play it :)

Well, the internal testing is followed by more intensive testing by the experimental group, then the rest of us get to stress test it, basically. It's all different phases of testing.

So does that mean, if your lucky, you can have it capture itself? (Ignoring the 2.5km range. Lets say you have a probe also deorbiting)

Yeah, that would be possible, however it's highly unlikely and depending on wether it caputured itself by a munar gravity assist or aerocapture it will get either flung back out into space or crash either into the mun or into kerbin after some time.

...And your brand new space station that took you weeks to complete....

The chances of that are so miniscule as to be completely improbable but imagine the tears if it did happen :D What a great thing!

They are giving us access to a game in development so we are playtesters. They are under no obligation to let us playtest the alpha for the alpha of the game.
