We've rendezvoused with them, pushed them around, built stuff on them, set them down at KSC, and done any number of things with the asteroids - but what have we all called them? Do you rename them? Is there any sort of naming scheme?

Myself, I'm giving the ones I track a number like real asteroids, then a name of a Kerbal. So far I've only tracked three, so they're 1 Jebediah (a ~3000 ton class E that was truly awe-inspiring to rendezvous with), 2 Bill, and 3 Bob. Hopefully I won't run out of names!

The first one I captured (Class D, it was about to swoosh by at Kerbin at approx. 450km) was named after a well known daredevil in the kerboverse - "Jeb's Rock". Jeb's Rock is now circulating Kerbin in an ovate, eccentric, but stable orbit somewhere in between 380km and 1.800.000km :D

I give them a the A to E classification followed by the day number they are due in Kerbin's Sol. i.e C-99 would be an medium sized asteroid due to arrive on day 99. If capture it them it gets renamed to a female name starting with the classification letter i.e. Clara.

I've only encountered one thus far, a Class C. I reached it with my X-71 shuttle (yeah, the one from Armageddon) and attempted to blow it up before it hit Kerbin, but it turns out I didn't have the capacity to deal with it.

I named it Lucky Punk and it smashed into Kerbin. I think my X-71 program needs to be thought through a little more...

I've only played around with them (landing them, splashing them down, Hitting Mun with them, and most recently trying to glide one down with wings) so haven't had any need to name them.

When it comes time to actually keep one around, I think I'll try to find a name that fits its 3-letter designation. So CLY-123 would become Charley. Or something like that.

None of the above. :)

I name them in this pattern: "Asteroid C YYYY-MM-DD XX" where "C" is the class, "YYYY-MM-DD" is the real-world date of capture, and "XX" is a 2-digit number starting at 01, in case I capture more than one in a day.

Asteroids. Damn, was that one already used? I, being a environmentalist, don't engage in the barbaric naming of asteroids. In fact, I pursue a capture and release program. While you all have shown your greed by hoarding asteroids, I simply collect them, study them and then release them back on their merry way. After all, who am I to interfere. I may very well have made it later for something.

somebody needs to come up with parts that serve no purpose other than to comically decorate asteroids. kinda like a cosmic mr. potato head.

There should be a challenge for getting an asteroid into a stable Kerbin orbit, then attaching parts to it to make it look like it has a face and have the community judge the best looking pet rock.
