What is the Meaning of Life in KSP?

To find the ultimate question for the answer 42

Correct. Or rather the meaning of life is 42, now we just have to figure out why.

And the moment we find it the universe will be replaced by something even more incomprehensible.

It already happened. It's what caused the Kraken to come into being.

There is a 3rd theory that states that the first two theories where concocted by a wily Kerbal to increase the level of panic and so boost the funding for the space program.

I'm pretty sure in the Kerbol system, the answer is "divide by zero."

Or NaN.

Or better yet: NullReferenceException: Object not set to an instance of an object

NullReferenceException: Object not set to an instance of an object

NullReferenceException: Object not set to an instance of an object

...

I think the meaning of Kerbal lives is to eat, sleep, and ride big candles to spaaaaaaace.

the answer to the meaning of life the universe and everything

42

but what was the question? no one remembers.

What do you get if you multiply six by nine was the question. Unfortunately the question was wrong, primarily because of a corrupted computer matrix caused by a sudden unplanned influx of telephone sanitizers, low grade marketing executives and other corporate space fillers.

To launch your rockets, see them explode around you and hear the lamentations of your co-pilot.

You kerbishly kerbing Kerbal you! And already in the second reply even! :P :P :P

That was my first thought to post after only just reading the thread title! :D :D :D

For the younger players - as I already googled the original english quote before even opening this thread:

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

Arnold "Conan" Schwarzenegger

I think he even pronounces it in perfect Kerbalese ...

Me: Why do you go to space?

Jebediah: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Jebediah Kerman, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am venture into space!

Me: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a space program. Interplanetary voyaging derives from interest and investment from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

Jebediah: Be quiet!

Me: You can't expect to go to Jool just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Jebediah: Shut up!

Me: I mean, if I went 'round saying I was a kerbonaut, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Jebediah: Shut up! Will you shut up?!

(Jebediah slaps me)

Me: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the program!

-eat -sleep

= ride big candles to spaace

+boasters

+boasters

= ride big candles to spaace with moar Boasters

That's it. When the hell did you see a Kerbal eating or drinking something?

I read your signature and have to say, "boosters". Boasters are people who brag.

For the Kerbals:

Grow up to be a Kerbonaut

Get into a rocket

Get sent into a random mission, be it suicidal or not

Possibly get stranded

Die if get crashed into something, get killed by the Kraken, etc.

Respawn, repeat everything again.

the answer to the meaning of life the universe and everything

42

but what was the question? no one remembers.

Actually the question is what is 6 x 9 - the answer is 42 base 13 (or a full deck and two jokers - note this last interpretation of 42 base 13 is my own, not Douglas Adams)

Hmmm... With it's diminutive size, I wonder if the answer to Life in the Kerbol system is 4.2

That would be the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything in the Kerbal system.

OP asked about the MEANING of life, which is aiming a lot lower.

I suppose the answer is the same as it is on Earth: The meaning of life is 'to Be' (happy).

Kerbals having a weaker sense of self-preservation and a higher thirst for 'rockets and explosions' is what allows them to put up with us. If they put a Kerbal at the head of the Space Program they probably wouldn't get much further than LKO since their attention span only allows them to build (100% reliable) rocket parts. Putting a rocket together doesn't seem to be able to hold their interest, nor does controlling the thing. Hence they happily leave such menial tasks to us.
