Interstellar

However, from what I can see, they have no control surfaces whatsoever. When the Ranger enters the atmosphere of Miller's planet, it doesn't use it engines - it only uses it's vtol engines for landing. So how can it fly? The only surface I see that could be potentially used are those metal wing... things... but they seem to be completely stiff.

They're powered by efficient jet engines in the back...

efficient jet engines...

Yep.

Clearly, someone in this movie must be a KSP player.

What's there to call out? SpaceXray made a significant claim without providing a link. I am sorry if I offended you with my tounge in cheek reference to Wikipedia. Thank you for posting the link.

It must be said, though, that something smells fishy about this rating. What is IMDB's criteria? Can it be manipulated? Why has it dropped by one point in as little as a few hours between when SpaceXray and you checked it? Interstellar is the only recent movie in that list. Could it be there only as a result of some campaign to vote it up? I will make it a point to check back in a year or so. If it is still in the top 20 then, I'll have my crow barbecued.

So I have to provide a link to EVERYTHING I say? In that case I am sorry.

I think 300k+votes and a 8.9 rating makes it a worthwhile movie don't you think?

It'll probably stay in the Top 20 for a few years like all of Chris's movies.

And don't look at the metascore for Nolan movies-a few critics decide to give it a 74/100 to get more interest and act "unbiased" and then they give a cheesy blockbuster like GotG an 80+/100.

P.S. On imdb in the polls, Interstellar got #1 on most inspiring film to become a scientist and also on best poster.

Well, am I? If you have seen it, where does it come on a scale of one to ten - one being the worst movie ever and ten being the best movie ever. I want to see it. I just need to persuade my parents to let me go to a late screening on a school night. :D

No, you're not, I've not seen it yet either. I don't go to theaters anymore... I can think of 100 different better more fun ways to 'waste' money. I'll just wait until it come out on cable/tv, or even better - when the DVD shows up at my public library... where I can then take it out and watch it for free.

You are giving money for entertainment, not "wasting" it. According to your logic, you "waste" money on cable/tv which you have to pay for. And how is going to the cinema not "fun"? You said you can name 100 better ways to "waste" your money.

So do it. You made this claim, now support it please.

The money I 'waste' on cable/tv brings me a multitude of 'entertainment', if you call endless reruns and 'lead the sheeple' news entertainment... but there are a few channels I enjoy, and for those I find the expense worth it. For the price of a theater ticket I bought KSP... which provides me far more entertainment, endlessly no less. I'm not about to list 100 things for you, you should be able to get the idea I'm putting across... but here are a few: model rocketry (for the price I can build and launch one), entry/parking fee for a state park where I can spend an entire day photographing wildlife/birds/etc, dinner out with friends and great topics of conversation, a tank of gas/petrol for the car and cruise to and visit places I've not been to before, etc. Then there those times when I spend that money on needed goods and supplies for animal shelters, food banks, etc. ;)

Since you cannot name 100 things you'd better waste your money on, your argument is invalid. Please refrain from such unsupported remarks in the future, thank you.

  • 1 month later...

Well, the Oscar nominations were announced today. Interstellar received nominations in the following five categories:

Music

Production Design

Sound Editing

Sound Mixing

Visual Effects

I note the distinct lack of nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay or even Cinematography... That doesn't surprise me because I think this movie was a over-hyped, but it may surprise some reading this in light of how Gravity did last year. I think Interstellar was better than Gravity.

Edit: Interestingly, Guardians of the Galaxy was also nominated in two categories: "Visual Effects" and "Makeup & Hairstyling".

I watched it on a medium sized IMAX screen. It was the only diffusion in the entire region in English (w/ subs), even the larger cities only have French translations.

Have to admit :

It is the best movie I've ever watched in my life. Ever. EVER. :D

You are either very young or do not get out much.:kiss:

The movie was entertaining and had wonderful pictures, but there are better movies, which is not to say this one was bad. :)
