While I will not get to compete in the Kerbal Cup...

Well, I'm awake again. And I got a thing to put into orbit.

*fires up KSP*

#EDIT: Here's what it looks like in the VAB. Interesting note... this is the view while zoomed all the way out.

*looks at thread*

Dangit, have to scrap my design now! It's been whackjobbed!

(Just kidding. XD)

In all seriousness, though. This might help your design. I've found that the radial Rockomax engines work great for fingers.

This isn't our competition project, just a concept part I was messing with.

Ran into another issue. This project here is easily the most complicated one I've ever done. Simply because it's asymmetrical as all heck, unwieldy, has an extremely heavy weight off-center in the form of the shoulder rocket, and due to the adding of a couple of load balancing engines, the fuel cannot drain evenly. Which means I can't wait for the outside boosters to cut out before shedding them, I have to cut all four loose the second one of them is about to empty out. Which means the boosters shoot up above the robot. THe outside truss system I've got to keep them aligned ends up shearing off the front and back part of the rocket. So I went back into the VAB and rebuilt those sections to decouple when I spacebar. So now they should fall harmlessly away, and I can get back to worrying about having those things drop on my head on the way up.

Another orbit attempt starts now!

#EDIT: There are actually four fingers per hand, Avera9eJoe :)

if this doesn't catapult Whack into LEGENDARY status (if he isn't already!) then I don't know what will! :D

Well he has a verb named after him. I don't think you can go higher than that

Maybe an idea in the future:

Could you configure hotkeys to do the staging? Like configure to disable engines and decouple the required decouplers, instead of using spacebar to only decouple.

That might fix the problem of rockets shooting up

Wait, are all those tanks full, Whackjob? Are you planning to light that candle he's got on his shoulder?!

Yes.

And yes!

#EDIT: AAARRGGH. Ok, there's a point where you have to admit to yourself that what you are doing is not working. This launch system is a failure. I am now tearing it out and redoing it.

"See that airport? Over there? Yeah, I'm gonna hit it with this rocket."

In side news, still rebalancing the current system. Not listing left real heavily, but it's tipping backwards ever so much. So I need another pair of quick engines on that axis. Then I can do some good test launches.

How can you even have the idea of something like that?!

You're the King of KSP.

Also, the payload make me think of the iron giant(don't get fooled by the theatrical poster from wikipedia, it's not the kind of movie where a giant robot attack everything.(by the way, it's a really good movie, I loved it during my childhood)).

EDIT: just by curiosity, how many parts did you need for the robot?

what would filling the base of the statue with sas modules do? help?

That amount of torque would probably shear the base from the statue. There's only three connection points between them. That's why I rely so much on the outside boosters to hold it together.

And a quick note... doing an orbit attempt. If it fails, I'll be taking a break for a bit. Getting burnt out haha. Twenty hours work on this so far.

I would like to add that while the competition asks for a picture of the trophy somewhere outside the atmosphere of Kerbin, you are not actually required to launch the thing. HyperEdit is explicitly allowed, as are mods such as Extraplanetary Launchpads.

I realize that launching it is part of the challenge that you're setting yourself. I just want to point out, if you are getting burnt out over this, you can still have your unofficial entry completed in full rule compliance by moving/spawning it somewhere else without a classic launch.

What's the fun in that?
