Any mods that can actually make a Space Station worthwhile?

One thing that bugs me with KSP is that it generally has no use for any type of orbiting. Well, of course you have to orbit planets for Science and such, but other than that, what can you do with permanently orbiting a celestial body? Useless satellites? Space stations that in truth do nothing but supply fuel??

Therefore, I have started trying to find use for them via mods. I have mostly fullfilled my desire for satellite mods for now (Remote Tech 2, SCANSat), but I'm still empty on space station mods. Station Science is okay, but I want even more. Interstellar is something I would love, but my ancient computer would hate. Orbital Kolonization is really realistic and cool as heck, but it does not really let me progress too much.

So, anyone up with some good mods for space stations?

Try Extraplanetary Launchpads http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/59545-0-25-Extraplanetary-Launchpads-v4-3-1?

I use it to build spacecraft around Minimus. I have a station there that stores the metal I mine from Minimus and uses it to create my missions to other worlds. I use it with Karbonite http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/89401-0-25-Karbonite-Mineable-Burnable-and-Community-Driven-0-4-2-2014-10-07?

Isn't building a kickass Space Station reward enough in and by itself anymore? Sigh, the youth of today. I remember when I was a wee lad, and all we had to play with was some cardboard boxes and empty tin-cans. Those were the days.

Ummm, yes, but back on topic. What to use a SpaceStation for?! Unless loading up on mods, what you got is an in-orbit gas-station. And even when loading up on a ton of mods, you are still pretty much left with an in-orbit resource station. See what I did there - yes, more to handle with mods - not just LFO and Monoprop. The basic premise is the same though. A Space Station is a convenient place for other vessels to stock up on supplies, whatever they might be. Or drop off supplies for that matter.

They are the hub of your operation. KSC is merely a place to get the infrastructure going - and haul to orbit crew and supplies now and again.

That's for a Planetary Station. I'm talking about an ORBITAL station.

Well, I'm in Career, so I try to not put stuff into orbit for no profit. Even though yeah, stations can be badass if built correctly.

I told you I already have this.

You can install ScanSAT.

*sign* I... also... have this. And it's for satellites other than stations.

Mod question? Why not submit it to the luxurious Add-on Affairs sub-forum? Now with lemon scent! (Moved.)

Whoops. That was a stupid mistake.

To add, try out Fine Print too. It give you an incentive for putting up orbital stations around various bodies.

SCANsat (+Blizzy's Toolbar tool), Station Science and a resource mod*.

*I recommend Karbonite with RetroFuture for extra props and more diverse airplanes[1][2].

Well, those are good ones. Though I already have Station Science.

Interstellar would be a good one for several different reasons, the two biggest being orbital power stations and nuclear fuel reprocessing stations. An alternate if you cannot run Interstellar would be Near Future, which will provide nuclear reactors and nuclear reprocessors. In a previous game, I used Near Future to build a refuelling and maintenance station for ships powered by Near Future's nuclear reactors.

The biggest role for space stations in kerbal is refueling. You can go about this one of two ways: 1) the hard way and 2) the not so hard way. The hard way involves lugging around a 20 -100 ton fuel tank from one end of the Kerbol system to the other. The not so hard way involves installing either Kethane or Karbonite and put your refinery in orbit. Google kethane for examples, plenty of people have built orbital refineries and Kethane fuel debots.

Also, extra-planetary launch pads is not just for land bases. That mod also introduces a orbital construction part, of which you can construct ships at the station itself.

Extra Planetary Launchpads also lets you build ships in space.

This station around Minmus uses EPL to construct interplanetary ships.

Oh. I idn't know that.

As I said, I'm no going to donload Interstellar for as long as I need my computer unexploded. However, maybe I'll check out Near Future.

Between Orbital construction, Colonization and the refuelling and science I can't think any other use for space station.

Well... You could always try and weaponise them with orbital bombing and such. Not sure which mod to go for, though

Yeah most of the station mods have been suggested. Interstellar hasn't really slowed down my pc, so I don't really know how it'll explode your pc.

You have most of the mods all ready so I don't really know what more you could want from a station. I mean there's refueling, command stations for Remote Tech 2, station science to gain science, interstellar adds a telescope for additional science, scansat/interstellar for resource detection, oks for extended life support, EPL for station based construction, you have FinePrint which offers station contracts.

A better contract package is Mission Controller 2 they offer repair, building, historic, civilian transportation, as well as supply contracts for refueling and life support. With this installed you should be able to make a good profit on building, supplying and running your stations.

Aside from that, that's pretty much anything you could really want to do in the game! I think if you're bored with all that installed you're not challenging yourself enough or that you need to more or less role play the stuff more. I mean sending up a station and building incredibly complex designs is pretty fun even without the use of mods.
