[1.1.2] Realism Overhaul v11.0.0 May 8

I'm still getting major bugs with engines that should be gimballing not being able to gimbal completely at random (so it seems). It usually happen with upper stage engines (either an upper stage, or an engine which only fires after reaching LEO), happens to alot of engines from different mods (FASA, RO engines, AIES). Had the same bug on a different computer, so its not my setup I think. It also makes the game really complicated to play, because half the time I launched a vessel its suddenly useless in space because I only brought RCS for ullage/turns and not for keeping it alined during burns.

The engines still have a 'lock gimbal/free gimbal' button, but they simply dont move (and neither does my ship) when trying to jaw/pitch.

I have no idea what causes this issue, but I can't imagine I am the only one encountering it, because it happens on different installs (only with RO), and on different computers....

EDIT: I finally found out what causes this issue, when you activate an engine through staging (hitting space) it DOES gimbal, when activating it by hand, it doesnt gimbal. Took me some time to narrow that down. So its easely worked arround. I understand why I only had the issue with RO, and upper stages now too. Don't know if it's a bug or intended, and if its stock or RO related, but pretty much problem solved now :).

Good to hear! Gotta say, I totally forgot it every time I closed the game, too. :D

Btw, question: Are the radiators currently balanced?

I remembered reading in the KSP 1.0.5 logs that the changes to it's heat system now made it possible to refrigerate parts using radiators. And since RO currently basically uses the stock heat system with some modifications, I went to test how hard it is to refrigerate people liquid hydrogen (e.g. for long range missions, nuclear engines). Turns out, it works very well and it's not even that hard to keep a cryo-tanks internal temperature at 20*k. Got a cryogenic stage (+ some radiators) circling high earth orbit and internal temperature is absolutely stable, no boiloff. Is that intended behaviour, unintended, or not yet balanced?

At it's core, that one is certainly not completely unrealistic, since the concepts of nuclear driven mars missions rely on cryogenic fuel, it's just never done. Otoh, it's as well completely speculative if cryogenic tanks/radiators from the 80's could do the same with the nerva, had it been continued.

Wanna make sure my nuclear/cryogenic craft don't get murdered by the next patch. TAC life support is the devil.^^'

Radiators don't really do anything under high timewarp.

Hm yeah, currently the internal temps of my cryo tanks i shot into space dont change at all (other than when a radiator lowers it, making it boiloff-resistant). Might just be another issue, maybe with my install. >_>

For some reason all of my rockets are extremely wobbly :\ I have a well balanced craft- but my ship wants to go all over the place, especially in vacuum, feels like a weird gimbals issue.

Try lowering engine gimbal? At the end of a rockets burn T/W tends to be super high and SAS is often overcorrecting.

I am having the same issue. Reducing Gimbal does not help. I need to lock Gimbal and hope that my RCS is strong enough...

@sackfalte I don't know then. Try starting your Gravity Turn earlier and do not turn at high speeds.

the weird thing is.. I have been doing RO/FAR/Smart-ASS-isted launches for months, yet only since a couple of days (I did a fresh install) either FAR has become much more demanding, or Mechjeb/Smart-ASS have become more stupid.

when I am using a 1-engine-stage, the Gimbal is never able to counter-act atmospheric pressure, meaning I always have to add wings/stabilizers, or build with symmetry, which adds to the part-count.

A question on the RO/Mechjeb relationship.

Is there any way to get consistent Dv's that don't rely on the staging setup.. something that can work it out

It's a hassle when you trying to pinpoint exact Dv's, and it becomes a drag with trial and error - launch, adjust, launch, adjust....

In this image this rocket is pushing a payload of 52.6 tons 'just' into orbit from Kourou (90 degree heading).. but as I move things around MJs Dv readings goes bananas.

@Stephen Stiles what mods are failing? Remember, you don't have to select any of the suggested mods, you can just install the required only.

I actually decided to get the ones in the CKAN folder done manually, it stops at about 75% and won't finish. I'll leave it go for right now on this computer.
