Best and the worst game of the past 2014

So, what are yours picks?

For me the best game would be Alien: Isolation - it recreates the atmosphere and look of the original movie excellently. I was legitimately scared while playing.

Worst - Dragon Age: Inquisition - such a disappointment and mess that I don't even know where to start.

Really lol? Why? ;)

Arbitrary removal of Action Groups. Bizarre implementation of piloting. Brain-damaged method of class determination, locked away from the user.

Plus the game seems to have taken a step away from "making sense" towards "herpy derpy make 'splosions! huh huh huh, kerbals all be stupid!" and I find it to be ridiculous.

Edit: On the other hand, 0.90 does seem to run somewhat better on my old machine.

My favorite games of 2014:

KSP

Alien isolation

Far cry 4

_____

Games that i thought might have been good, but turned out terrible or not as well:

Civilization: Beyond earth

Watch Dogs

Sims 4

Assassin's creed: Unity (This is the terrible one i was referring to)

Alien Isolation and Elite Dangerous

Two games that make an occulus rift very tempting

Oh! I forgot the worst, I didn't play many new ones this year so I suppose the game I bought and played the least was far cry 4

it's not a bad game exactly, it's just more Ubisoft, which means same game design as all their other titles and a terrible story with truly horrible characters and a million issues arising from it being a half a**sed console port, like all other Ubi titles

KSP 0.90 is the best.

Civ BE is the worst. It's good, but not amazing. Civ V hit the bullseye with that type of game. But Civ BE went backwards. The UI is in completely different places. The map is on the opposite side if the screen. Where is the demographics button? Where is the limit growth button? The buttons are sketchy and hard to work with. I can't open the production screen when a conversion project is selected ( IE Production to Energy ). Everything is far apart and it's difficult to read the screens. Why fix what isn't broken? Was there a different team or something?

Best game for me is Elite: Dangerous. Looks good, feels good, is good. (KSP is a given and it was the best game of last year anyways)

Worst game...personally, it's Prison Architect. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but is surpassed by others that I play.

Frankly, I don't understand why Civ V get this praise. It is really a step back from Civ IV Beyond The Sworld. The only thing better in Civ V is the military part, but it has always be the least interesting part of the game. I am not saying that to be rude or anything, I realy want to understand what people find so good about it.

2014 in Review:

I largely stopped playing World of Tanks... feels too 'cheaty' with the forced outcomes and bad matchmaking, not to mention cheat-mods and other abuse of undocumented features

I somewhat replaced that in my playtime with Heroes and Generals, but it's got some pretty quirky bugs that make it un-fun after a short while playing

I waited till Dec'14 to buy Black Flag and was largely disappointed, even getting it for nearly 30% the original retail price (I think at 80% off I'd still have been disappointed)

I remain hopeful that Star Citizen begins to deliver on some of it's early promises

I continue to play KSP almost daily :)

Oh and how could I forget: "Logic Bots" deserves some attention... that game really challenges me!

there never was call of duty, most shooters that do not introduce MAJOR changes are all... um.... what was the first shooter? with better graphics and new weapons.

So true. I remember going "Whow!" only two times while playing an FPS: once with Doom, the other one with Half-Life wich can only mean two things:

1. FPS are not something that can really evolves

2. I'm starting to get old :D

First off, if you aren't playing with BNW (and G&K too, I guess), you missed all of the bug fixes and patches that made CiV inferior to Civ IV. I think a lot of it is that CiV is cleaner and simpler, in a way that IMO doesn't take away from the game. Civ IV had, from what I remember, many more buildings, improvements, etc that weren't as intuitive as the ones in Civ V, and largely were useless in many situations. Unit stacking in the earlier games was also incredibly ridiculous, as you mentioned. I think a lot of it comes down to that CiV is more friendly to 'casual' players while Civ IV was a bit more overwhelming and not quite as polished.

I haven't played Civ IV in a while though, I should really find my discs...

I have only played vanilla Civ V, that is true; but really it is not about the bugs and balance problems (those were there at the launch of Civ IV). It is more about the fact that there is less to do. I might try again with the add-ons but honestly, I'm getting cold feet : Civ IV was really awesome, even without the add-ons. Anyway thank you!

The DLC really brings the game to what Civ IV was and more. It's loads more fun with BNW.
