  1. I was happy I got to give you your 2000th like :). If any mod should be stock, this is it.
  2. Well hopefully it would be on sliders that give you good control. Back in the old days of flight sim you could dial down things like clouds or other effects that really slowed down things so you could still have a taste of them (and over time as you acquired faster computer parts you could increase the sliders); even most cheap mother board integrated video processing these days can run rings around what we had back then. Of course if you're doing rockets you're not going to be effected by the weather for very long most times, though it could be fun to watch a capsule with parachutes deployed catch a strong updraft.
  3. Good idea. Actually I'd like to see a second more expensive thermometer for this to reflect the extra materials cost of such an item. Also make it much smaller.
  4. As long as the weather can be turned off I don't see the problem as those who don't want it don't need to have it. Weather would be especially nice when flying planes. I remember when Microsoft Flight Simulator first got weather, it was so nice even though the computers at that time tended to struggle a bit with it (ah those 10FPS slide shows...what fond memories) it added challenge and greatly enhanced the experiance.
  5. Of course, but that's not really my point. You can have both and why would having both be bad? Maybe not everyone would want to have it but I'm betting there are a lot people looking for a new angle or challenge who would enjoy it, the argument that it doesn't work in some other game is problematic at best (and yes the reverse is true too but I was more pointing to a game where both worlds live happily together).
  6. Since my post I had an interesting experience. I started a new career and was returning to surface in a very simple basic rocket after a few minutes of play. I alt-tabbed out to do some other stuff, got distracted and didn't come back to KSP for six hours. It had crashed. This never happened to me before and I suspect a (new) rather bad memory leak has been introduced. The answer until it gets fixed of course is periodically exiting and restarting. Annoying yes, but KSP is hardly the first program to have suffered from this problem (memory leaks can be darn hard to pinpoint, and alas programs written in 'C' based languages are all the easier to make memory leaks in due to the way pointers can be "abused" and yes it's a two sided coin they can be more powerful and flexible than more restrictive languages). Hopefully 1.2.1 will address this problem.
  7. That doesn't stop people playing games like Civilization which generate a random world every time--sure people share worlds and have contests based on the same world or use the same world for multi-player, but they also play randomly generated games...in other words you can have both no reason not to keep the standard solar system, but have an option to generate various random factors for variety: it is a single player game after all.
  8. I'd like to see a full flight simulator, where you can build your own air planes like in KSP (including propellers and internal combustion engines); it would have more accurate atmospheric flight dynamics, real weather, airports and scenery, ability to have random failures etc. It could be more of an expansion pack than a whole separate program. Hey I can dream can't I? But I don't think KSP is finished by a long shot. A story along the lines you suggest sounds interesting. How about a game where your kerbals crash their giant space ship onto a deserted planet and then have to start a whole civilization from scratch and (in the fastest possible time) become a space faring civilization so they can go back home (in this scenario Kerbals are basically immortal barring accidents).
  9. It's Tuesday Already Program. Or: Oops Late For Work Again Program.
  10. Make that "meat eating" and I'll accept it. Seriously though I almost put "real life poodle." And actually that was a rather specific example of a broader problem, whenever I swear at the computer, I end up having to take time away from my gaming to assure my dogs I'm mad at the computer not them (they probably think I'm insane at such times yelling at the big flat light bulb from which strange sounds sometimes emerge).
  11. When I shout "Dang it that poodle didn't work right %#@#$#$@ thing," and my standard poodle goes into hiding.
  12. Well, dang, I use them as radiators on my capsules if I have the part count available, seems to help me during reentry so I can be a bit more careless with how fast I come in. Now I feel silly as I see what they are really for, Kerbal playpens!
  13. I've never noticed that. This mod let's you overlay anything you want onto the navball so in theory you might be able to, if this is just an alignment problem, by ediing the derfault overlay and moving the 90 deg line a bit or try one of the alternate files in this thread and see if they fix the problem (if you don't mind the different/colors text styles). It's an easy mod to use so try it worst case you've lost a little time playing with it.
  14. I don't just now. I have nothing against auto pilot per say and I've used MJ for readouts but actually I just like being in control at the helm, continuing to perfect my piloting skills and very much tend to do just one thing at a time so I don't have a whole lot of simultaneous flights going on. Ok maybe I'm just a control freak.
  15. Since there don't seem to be a lot of people with this problem: Have you downloaded a fresh copy of KSP and, either deleting, or moving, your current KSP (or installing the fresh copy elsewhere and running from there to test) just to be sure something didn't go wrong with the upgrade process (or possibly something old hanging around causing problems). Might be worth a try if not.
  16. Just came back after a month or so off...I just missed it plus well I want to play with the new things. I'd still have to say it's the combo of designing, building, testing and flying that make this so inspiringly different...I enjoy flight sims, but making planes for them was just too hard, KSP makes making rockets fun and (relatively) easy...with lots of big bangs to help show where you went wrong for a bonus. Oh and for general inspiration any number of sci-fi books...most recently it was the other way round KSP inspired me to reread Rendezvous With Rama. I'm in my 50's too (how did that happen?), doesn't stop me...I'm sure my neighbors already think I'm nuts so no loss there (of course I'm just playing with the dogs if I need an excuse) .
  17. Thanks again and glad it was an easy fix.
  18. Well then it's not the drives, so at least that's ruled out (BTW I looked a little farther and there is no new firmware for the 850). Edit: Can you try using the Activity Monitor to kill as many processes as possible (while still letting the computer run ). By freeing as many resources as possible it might help.
  19. Some 850's were said to suffer from the "senility bug" I mentioned above but mostly is was the 840 model that had the problem. It would still be a good idea to visit Samsung's support site and made sure you have the latest firmware for that drive as some of the evo 840 fixes may have also been applied to the evo 850 models (and having the latest firmware is always a good idea when you are having problems). This site should lead you to the correct latest firmware update for your 850.
  20. First of all WE ARE TALKING OSX, sure it's good at defragmenting UNTIL a drive is nearly full than it can have problems: LOOK IT UP instead of just blanket stating it, this is the internet it's not hard to look this up. Even Apple says if a drive is nearly full files can become fragmented!!! Now I'll grant you this is not the problem since an SSD is indeed being used on one of these computers, but give the information here it sounds like it maybe a drive problem of some sort. I only suggested this as an easy thing to check on a nearly full HDD with no harm other than a few wasted minutes if it didn't help nothing really lost, also if the drive was developing problems in certain sectors deleting a few things not being used and reinstalling KSP might alleviate the problem (until the entire drive stops working) again assuming a nearly full drive...and of course a nearly full SSD can also be problem, most shouldn't be more than 90% full to allow the SSD to move it's files around, so unless OSX reserved some spare space (which if it was a clone install probably not) that would be ANOTHER good reason to thin out some deadwood even with an SSD. What comes to mind are disk thrashing or older drives going bad especially if they are very full. Another possibility is the controller going bad. What other types of programs these users are running and if they have noticed slow downs in other programs or other problems would be useful to know. Also, @Whovian41110 , what is the model number for the SSD their are some SSD's with known problems that can devlop over time. One example: certain Samsung SSDs had a bug that caused them to go slower and slower (the older the file the slower, some people were getting speeds down to around that of a floppy disk). But there are others and it's easiest to look up the model and see if there are reported problems.
  21. Do either of you get any heat problems when trying to run KSP? OSX can have problems with nearly full drives, files can get fragmented so you might try deleting some unused stuff and reinstalling KSP (or get a defragger program--I'm assuming you don't have SSD's in such "old" computers)--if your drives are nearly full. Probably not your issue but can't hurt to try.
  22. All the time. Books, software, inventions. Several ideas I had 20 years ago (and could have patented but I don't want to be a patent troll) later became real items made by someone else (and I don't know if they were successful never wanted to know ). Software wise the problem is time, I'd either need a team working under me or a 100 years neither of which I have. A few things have worked out though. But modern video games yeah that's not really a one person thing. But there have been some fairly successful (or so I've been given to understand) one person games with "retro" graphics, I've been thinking of reviving an idea for a game I had way back when I was writing Amiga software.
  23. Only if it's a pop-up book. But seriously a book about KSP could mean anything I'd need to know more. Depending on what it is there might be possible copyright issues. I remember back when I was doing a writer's workshop there was talk about writing Star Trek stories, the upshot was that because of the cut Paramount would take and the hassle of getting authorized it was much better to create your own universe (ok that advice was from an actual Star Trek book writer so take it with a grain of salt, OTOH he would be in a good position to know these things).
  24. Wow, thanks for all the responses. I think I'm in a rut, I need to defiantly try some of the games mentioned here, right now though I can feel some little green people calling to me that they are feeling neglected.
