  1. The thing is this idea crops up a lot and I still support it. I think the best way to do it would be alternative procedurally generated systems (that can be saved and shared). Add a lot of fun, challanges and new exploration possibilities and no need for FTL travel.
  2. ^ try pointing you steering wheels ever so slightly inward towards each other (toe in), I've had good luck with that, though I'll admit I haven't done much rover stuff in my latest career. Also try turning off steering in most of your wheels if you have a lot of them on your rover.
  3. I saw that story, but was too dumb to think how nice it would fit in with KSP, good idea, usually I end up landing on the grass or ocean, but this would be a fun target...so long as my wheels aren't too slippery. Be really extra neat if we should ever get winds/weather.
  4. I tried a Logitech extreme 3d pro, I found it way over sprung as my wrist would start hurting after a just a few minutes (I tried fixing this but no luck). I have a Saitek X52 I use for flight sims, it's much better, though sometimes the connection between the stick and the thrust controller comes loose--but the main problem is it just takes up too much space so it ends up collecting dust on a shelf and I just learned to use the keyboard and accept that my flights tend to be a bit jerky . Though periodically I swear I'm going to get it out again.
  5. Take a look at this wiki page, I use it a lot, as I'm always forgetting such details-- there's a lot of great comparison detail and more: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Parts
  6. I've been know to stick a few extra useless parts on landers so if they come in a bit hard they will explode and act as a buffer preserving the pod. I don't do this so much now unless I'm trying something a bit dicey, but it used to be very handy (before heat shields I'd use decouplers, now if I do it would be like a few heat shields with ablator removed...and this is mostly in early career).
  7. Very sad, I hope Sal misses us and KSP after he settles down wherever and comes back all nice and refreshed. Besides we need to get those likes/reputation up a bit higher, @sal_vager you need to set a goal, like 200,000 likes before you completely retire .
  8. I wouldn't try this until you get the new card, but if you want to have fun try baking it briefly in a hot oven, this can cause some of the solder to reflow a bit. Most solders melt around 370-380F. I've never actually tried this myself, but have read of some having success doing it...though a lot don't (the trick is not to leave it in too long, and of course this only works if some of the solder points have loosened/broken). If it works you have a back up graphics card if not, well you haven't lost anything.
  9. That's a pretty general error. Since nobody has tried to answer and given what you have tried there's quite a few possibilities. So it could be bad RAM, try something like memtest. If you've recently added hardware try removing it and it's driver (if there was one). Registry problems have been known to cause these errors too. All it's saying is the program is trying to access memory that doesn't belong to it. If I'm reading between the lines right, it was working for you then it stopped working? If so did you install any other programs like say a new virus checker or whatever just before the problem showed up? I only mention these possibilities since is sounds like you've done some pretty basic things regarding KSP itself which suggests maybe the problem is coming from somewhere else...KSP is pretty taxing to a system so the problem might not be showing in other programs (yet). Of course most of the time these problems are caused inside a program, programmers can have a lot of fun finding them and adding error trapping to try and catch them. A failing CPU can cause these kinds of problems too though if you have other cpu intensive programs you'd probably already know that.
  10. You can do like often had to be done in the old flight simulator days go in and get rid of every process you don't need (task manager in Windows) or create a special boot configuration for that, but that seems so early 2000's late 90's. Depending on what you have running it may free up some decent amount of RAM, kill everything you don't need it adds up including things like virus scanners (just be careful to reboot or rerun them afterwards). Of course you'll still run out eventfully if you keep adding mods but it might free up enough room for that one extra mod you just have to have .
  11. I just put on more landing gear, the improved weight distribution helps a lot with bounce at least with my simple aircraft, also can keep things like tails from striking the ground if that's a problem with a particular design.
  12. Oh I like pushing things, and some simple stuff still works so I thought this might be worth a try . But I really should have tried one at time instead of two. Thanks for the info.
  13. Can someone verify for me that MM does or does not work in 1.2.9 -- maybe it's just my problem not sure as I was trying to use a mod that uses MM, but KSP 1.2.9 crashed so I deleted the other mod, still crashed so I deleted MM now it loads very, very slowly with messages about #autoLoc_xxxxx maybe I had corrupt download or something else when wrong. No biggie I can go back to 1.2.2 just like to pinpoint what went wrong if I can.
  14. The 18d is a separator, it decouples from both sides where as a the 18-A decopuler only decouples from one side which is why it has an arrow pointing to the side that decouples. Same for the tr/tv. Edit: Find answers to questions like this here.
  15. 4.16GB for me...maybe time to get rid of some of those screen shots I don't need. And I only have one small mod...also using 1.2.9.
  16. There is a mod that will let you easily change the colors of the NavBall and so you can use a color scheme that makes the markers easier to read. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/63113-making-high-contrast-nav-ball/ The mod is in the fourth post. There are a bunch of alternative textures throughout that thread so try some of them it may be all you need. Also the 1.2 version of the mod works fine in KSP 1.2.9 if you are participating in the beta.
  17. If you want to OC there are several boards where you can get help (I can give you links if desired). Given the age of your processor, be sure your system is very clean, and there is always the risk of killing the processor due to the extra heat output...given that most of the time an OC isn't going to get you a huge performance boost, it's probably not worth the risk for the negligible FPS increase you would get. Considering that if you are using stock cooling you'll probably have to upgrade it to get a decent OC you're probably better off saving for a new mother board and processor.
  18. It's like insurance--a form of gambling. I'm with you on this one...in fact I never buy those "season tickets" it's the rare program that keeps my interest that long (KSP being one of the rare ones, but my guess/gamble is they will soon start work on KSP II and not a lot more DLC for KSP I, we don't even have the first DLC yet).
  19. Yes it would. This makes me wish I would be around for quantum computers or even just binary PC's in 30 years from now. But then I had a lot of fun in the early PC days so what the heck. Add in VR or holodecks and the experience will be amazing and very realistic (if desired). And just from a visual aspect it would be fun to see dynamic weather on gas giants. Then there are solar winds and etc. all sorts of neat things could be modeled if we had the computer power. But we've already come a long way from the 2D lunar lander program I played in 1980.
  20. I think that's a good idea. And should they ever add multi-player they would have to disable a bunch of stuff in there (or everyone in a session would have to agree to use them which might be a bit cumbersome and lead to arguments).
  21. Oh I remember those, came out in '77 so same year as the TRS-80, but no local store. Don't think I got my first floppy drive until 81 but at least I never had to use paper tape (though I did use punch cards on main frames sometimes as they had priority over the student terminals so you could save hours of waiting). I wanted an Altair 8800 but bought the HP-67 instead as it had a lot more practical uses. Now I may get nostalgic about those old computers, but I don't want to go back I love me my KSP too much!
  22. That would just alienate those who promised if they bought an early release they would get future DLC for free. Those of us who didn't and were not made that promise have no reason to be jealous, it's just the way it worked out (and I missed the cutoff by only eight months). Also there's a lot of this going around and we don't even know how much the DLC will be, if it's really expensive sure I can understand the problem and frustration of not being able to afford it, but what if it's like $5 or $10, I think most of us can save up that much in fairly short time...or wait for a Steam Sale, I often do that if I deem a DLC is a bit overpriced (ok I'm old I've learned patience but I do remember what is was like when I was young and how much slower time went by back then, but still I counsel patience, good things come to he/she who waits).
  23. I've been thinking of turning a Raspberry Pi into a TRS-80 simulator, trying to recapture the fun and excitement at learning to program my first computer (though I did have an HP-25 and 67 before that). I've often regretted donating it to charity, though in reality it's doubtful it would work now, those sliver plated connectors it had were a bad idea. I learned both BASIC and FORTRAN with it and had many an all nighter without falling asleep. My favorite though was when I wrote a quick and dirty BASIC program on my 80 which proved to some main frame snobs that their version of the program had a serious bug...for an entire week I was the only person at my college who had an accurate list of how many students were enrolled in each class during the enrollment period--that was very satisfying.
  24. It's what happens when you get old, never happened in my youth and I've had a PC since my first TRS-80 in 1979. I'm still waiting for the fountain of youth to be discovered (and the one in CivV doesn't count).
  25. Yes exactly. It occurs to me there is a communications and experience gap-- those of us familiar with how it's been in Flight simulators for many years know what you're talking about, others seem to think you (and many supporters of this idea) want to add a full blown weather simulator. That's one reason I always suggest skeptics check out programs like FSX--even back in the early 2000's it was able to go on the internet and download real world weather for your current location, and it worked great, just adjust the clouds (especially any you were going to fly into) and graphics level to your computer's capabilities and you were enjoying flying in various weather scenarios (though fog was a taxing one on the cpu back then).
