  1. I tried putting some rocket boosters on my plane, it was fun but not practical (but I did get it to spin in place, nose to tail, for longer than I would have thought possible).
  2. Turn on SAS. Don't forget that reaction wheel it's important. Also take off fast just go immediately to full throttle it should stay pretty straight just pull the nose up a bit and it will take off pretty fast.
  3. I didn't change any of the landing gear parameters. It's unfortunate the console version doesn't include a craft file exchange, maybe in a future version as that would seem like a basic feature (maybe when they add multiplayer), but thought I'd put there if you weren't sure of some part . It took me a few hours and some research to get my first plane flying so don't get discouraged. Also the V tail of this plane is because a straight vertical fin does weird things to the aerodynamic overlay when using that angled tail piece, but it's very stable. I turned off roll on the control surfaces because it was too easy to roll it over (though it flies upside down fine). But I don't have a joystick connected right now and doing coordinated turns on the keyboard is a pain, with the Xbox controller it may be easier and you may want to play with the elevon and tail fin controls to find the right settings for controller flight. Also to land just slow down to under 50m/s and glide down onto the ground, you can flare it at the last moment (under 1m to ground) but don't really need to, that large wing area lets it glide nicely.
  4. It's certainly disappointing when you get a three star pilot and realize they have nothing more to gain from experience. This seems reasonable and gives them another tier. (I'd also like to see them maybe just become better pilots without so much jittering on the SAS controls and maybe smarter too like offering autopilot to the next way point, but that's for a different thread.)
  5. Yikes try something simple at first like this: To paste a photo directly use the link that starts with the i.imagur (says direct link) and just paste into your post. Anyway I did another version of this with the landing gear all on fuselage (but still need six) and it works fine too. You can look at the craft file if you want here. This only uses tier 4 parts and is <30 parts total. Note there is a small reaction wheel in the service bay and right click on it and chose SAS only. Ok here is another version: You can't see it but there is another pair of gear attached to the fuselage under the wings. I find you don't have wheel problems with six gear on this sized plane. Also make sure your gear are really on straight. Turn on SAS and it's quite stable needing little trim. Finally that early runway is crap. While you can certainly use it if you want you may find better results landing and taking off from the nearby fields. Also both the planes can land on the water and taxi (can't take off but you can taxi onto land to take off again).
  6. It's a pun Great Planes/Great Plains not really meant to be read but said aloud.
  7. @SpacedCowboy Q: Where do you find the Great Plains? A: At the Great Airport. Old joke.
  8. In case anyone was wondering this is where I found the Great Plains of Kerbin (and no, they are not near the Great Airport):
  9. Vulcan...wait what forum is this? I'm going to abstain: all of them have their virtues and vices and my favorite varies depending on where I am and how many Kerbals I had to kill before I managed to get there.
  10. @Beale can you try it on a different computer that happens to have KSP installed? Maybe something is wrong with the controller. The only other thing I can think of is to clean boot your computer (just the minimum needed to make it work) and see if that makes a difference.
  11. Which is a major change from now if a phone can run KSP at the speed of a current high end desktop, unless the program grows a lot, it could actually mean then end of the gaming rig (there is a point of diminishing returns and much software already does not need a powerful desktop to run well, once you have 4k photorealistic graphics and a certain level of complication in a game its future improvements well be relatively minor and the need to always be upgrading hardware to keep up will be greatly reduced...we are already seeing this). I was talking about a port of KSP, it could also be improved so it could have two modes, portable running on a small touch screen and full when using a keyboard/mouse/monitor. No matter how you put it a phone is not a desk top it's a huge form factor change and if you sometimes connect it to the living room TV or whatever it's still a phone; also its display could still be used to hold reference material a map whatever. As for running on a Pi, the Pi would not run it well, no point in doing that now and in 10 years who will need a Pi when the phone can do everything it can and more (be a phone too). That is of course if phones develop that way and I think they well--I do see a lot of desire for a Surface phone (i.e. a phone running a full version of windows as well as being a phone). Dies will have to shrink of course and given the recent problems we've seen with that it may be a bit more than ten years baring of course a breakthrough. Moore's law has slowed down in recent years but we still see steady albeit slower progression.
  12. Well I play it on a PC...while lying down, but I'll grant you I'm probably a bit unusual in that respect (and yes that's with a keyboard and a small, Orochi, mouse). I was really expecting (hoping for) something a little more tailored to the consoles so I can't really see getting the PS4 version especially since I use the same monitor for computer and PS4. Well the PS4 is quieter than my gaming rig and uses less power so that might be a reason when I'm in a stock sort of mood. How is it for controlling planes? I've never actually tried flying anything with a PS4 controller--closest I've come is falling off tall buildings . I've been thinking of using the PS4 controller on my PC since my joystick is just too big. Probably the biggest disadvantage I see is not being able to use a navball texture mod to make it easier to read as I tend to have trouble reading the default navball--the colors are pretty bad IMHO. Did they keep the UI scalability feature intact--in particular being able to make things like the Navball larger/smaller? Is it running full 1080p (I haven't seen any screen shots)?
  13. How about sending some replacement propellant? Or if you want, you could just pretend you sent some more propellant and use the alt-f12 infinite propellant "cheat," just long enough to get your Kerbal out of the sticky...er slippery situation.
  14. @JarinI don't like tumbling for the same reason everything tends to go bam! But slight movements can help, just tap one of the movement keys-- just a slight movement can cause a heating part to briefly cool. Best if you have SAS set on retrograde hold, then tap a key let SAS move the ship back and tab again and so on until temp gauges stop showing up; otherwise you can rock the vessel if you don't have retrograde hold. The only problem with this is if your reentry vessel is unstable. I usually put a heat shield with most of the ablator removed as the shield effect helps and a little weight on the bottom helps with stability, but you already have that covered. Given how far out those stick in the OP (if you are using a similar design) it might actually take a couple of key taps to get them moved enough to briefly cool so play around a bit see to see if you can get this to work...hopefully there is something that will do the trick without going into a tumble.
  15. Yeah, IVA toggle key is 'C' unless you've remapped it. And it doesn't work if you are in map view you have to be in the internal view to toggle out of it.
  16. I've always thought this would be a sensible safety precaution. I'm good enough at EVA to usually get back to my ship--doesn't mean I want to spend the time doing it though. I suspect this will be made a stock thing at about the same time they get seat belts in Star Trek.
  17. Oh give me a home where the buffalo do roam... I actually overshot the longitude slightly, but the view would have been the same .
  18. That's my point they will be as powerful as today's desktops possibly more so. I didn't say they had to be permanently attached and in fact it would most likely be a wireless connection.
  19. The game in it's current form will be quite playable on a phone (with suitable screen and input attached) in 10 years. Of course hopefully in 10 years KSP will be in version 3 or 4 and would melt any phone trying to run it.
  20. I sometimes have this problem in the PC version. Mark the location as active in map mode but it doesn't show on the navball...except it does show on the internal view navball (press 'c' on the PC--don't have the PS4 version yet so don't know how on it). Edit: Just saw in another post you can activate IVA view from the Kerbal portraits.
  21. Did you move the rocket while in the VAB? This happens to me sometimes I move it over from the center of the circle marked on the floor for whatever reason and then forget to move it back then when you launch and it will be offset from the center of the launch pad by the same amount.
  22. Did you check your g-force like I suggested? You've got four SRB's there and unless you have set their throttle limiters (in the VAB right click on one of them), that thing probably goes pretty fast at the start until they burn out and the faster you go the harder it is to turn. A gimbaling engine can help like Snark suggested but if you are going too fast it can still be hard to turn. Also you can add struts to make that tall stack more rigid at the beginning by running struts from the SRBs to the upper part of the stack (until you drop the SRB's then it can flex again but the higher you are the less this will effect you, though like Snark suggested always go with the tallest tanks you have rather than several shorter ones, you can use one shorter one if you need just a little more propellant but the fewer connections you have in a stack the better and again struts help a lot).
  23. Well I count craft files and ancillary programs after all they can be printed out and are tangible. I've been the DIY route and can't say making something or improving on something is any more or less satisfying that producing something digitally .
  24. I have no problem with the LY01 though my planes are generally in the <30 part category as I recently decided to do a hard level career. But I generally use six landing gear on my planes and if the plane got too heavy eight might be needed (though I've put weasels er Whessley's on the same plane with a few extra parts in a previous career with no problem, but of course by the time you get wheezers you're hopefully going to have more landing gear options unless you get them under a contract like I did). I've tried them on the wings and only on the fuselage and it doesn't seem to make any difference as long as you have enough of them to reduce the psi (or kPa). I also make sure my com and aerodynamic overlay are very close together and near centered on the plane for a good balance. And pay extra attention to their being straight, if your plane is wandering around while still on the ground double check they are all straight, I can't say for sure but if the plane is moving all about while trying to take off it may be adding more strain to the wheels. If you're interested I can post a craft file of my basic "trainer."
  25. Should most defiantly be stock. I assume Squad will also provide free new keyboards when they introduce this feature. Should have been included since version -1.0.0.0.0.1.
