Okay then I get what you are saying. You are correct, in the grand scheme of things, it is not a big deal, and it is up to me to interpret it as a smack in the face or not. The issue is the principle of it. Take Two disrespected us. People are discussing the idea of them tossing some freebies our way to smooth things over. I seriously doubt people are upset about $50, I think they are upset its any amount of money for how we were treated.

Serious question, did you translate this from another language?
-
Uh-oh, the cops! Sorry, I'll play nice.

My apologies, I said "docking" when I meant to say "rendezvous". I was referring to how you said "after you've done it all by hand and eyeball a few dozen times, it gets old." You use mechjeb to get your rendezvous. Therefore you do not do it yourself. Therefore you are not current in rendezvous (to use aviation terminology). This is not a judgement of your skill in KSP. I am not experienced with spaceplanes. Nobody cares! My point was to get to the fact that Nate Simpson who was in charge of KSP2 is not experienced at KSP to the level one would think necessary to lead development. The example of docking was brought up and I went with it. I really don't care about docking, especially after this thread. I'm referring to how Matt Lowne does it. I was trying to get the point across that docking style has nothing to do with a player's skill in KSP, but that got lost in the noise.

I don't understand why people complain when they get smacked in the face. Its free..like what is the problem? Just to irk you, lol. I'm kidding, no offense intended.

Just off the top of my head, wasn't SpaceX testing out a flame suppression system in the skirt? Since Elon demolishes launchpads with rocket engines, he might test fire suppression systems with makeshift flamethrowers? A bit more possible (with regards to IFT-3 reentry) is the vent was on purpose to spin Starship up to see how it deals with the thermal load. Its all well and good to see how the tiles are dealing with the heat, but when things go sideways (no pun intended), you wanna know how the bare skin deals with the heat as well. Also, I think the long term goal is to not have tiles on LEO Starships, but we will have to see.

You are inexperienced at docking. You admitted you let mechjeb do it for you. There is no way around it. That has nothing to do with your experience in all other areas of the game. This also does not mean that I am more experienced than you at "campaigns with dozens of stations, probes, refineries, fuel tugs and transfer stages." Lower your defenses, lol. My point [snip] is that Nate is less experienced at KSP than what a reasonable person would expect his level of experience would be for being in charge. @Izny asked if Nate used mechjeb to dock, and I thought docking would be a good example to use to explain my point, so I went with their example. I am NOT here to dump on people's docking skills/preferences. That out of the way, I've finished the video I was talking about. This mission was fun to perform because of the docking, not in spite of it, as it was a challenge. That's the whole point of this game right? Challenges? I think the guy in charge should agree with this sentiment, rather than say "pfft, docking is challenging, I'll mechjeb it"

Nothing wrong at all. Unless you are in charge of making KSP2. I really don't care how anybody plays. I do like to point out to people who enjoy using mechjeb that yes, docking like mechjeb is boring, but you go play the game how you want to. My point is that somebody who most likely uses mechjeb to dock was in charge of KSP2. This is like if someone who uses all the control aids in MSFS was in charge of the whole game. I'm not saying they are playing the game wrong. I am saying that they will never know the joys of shooting an instrument landing approach since it is way outside their comfort zone. Yeah, lol, I know. Calm down, I said I was making a video. Obviously its not fun for you or you would do it
-
I bet he did once or twice to say he did, then used mechjeb because docking is the opposite of instant gratification. see, this is what I'm getting at when I say people are inexperienced*. People start using mechjeb after a while because "it gets old." The first time your docked, you did, dock, yes, but you were absolute garbage at it. So was I, So was everybody else. You don't get good at it all of a sudden either. I mean Matt Lowne still uses the beginner way, doesn't he? Think of it like working out or learning an instrument; you have to push past the point where your brain says "ok I get it, but this is not 'fun' anymore." You have to practice until it is almost a reflex. I've done thousands of dockings and I still screw up, but the one thing I never think its boring. I'll throw together a video to show you what I mean. You can make it interesting, I promise. *Edit: If you are inexperienced, you may be missing out on fun you never realized was there.

See this is the exact problem. Nate likes KSP, but he is not that experienced at it. KSP is my favourite game, and has been pretty much since I picked it up over a decade ago. My opinion of the game has remained relatively constant for this time period, however, my skill level has not. If you had've asked me at 1000 hours "what would you do to the game to improve it?" you would get a wildly different answer than if you asked me at 5000 or 10000 hours. This is evidenced in the whole "no maneuvers in a different SOI" problem. Anyone wanna bet that Nate waits til he gets within the SOI before he changes inclination? At 1000 hours, I did too. The thing was, at 1000 hours, I was being inspired by players who were way better than me, I wasn't in charge of the sequel.

NOOO! Get this thought out of my head!!! Lol, shut up or Take Two is gonna get ideas. We don't need a KSP3 so bad it makes KSP2 look good by comparison What I really hope comes out of all this is big publishers internalize the fact that when they go against the fanbase, they lose money.
-
Lol, that's why I blamed Take Two. I don't wanna de-rail the thread, so I'll just say that one of the worst feelings in the world is being paid to do a job you know is substandard. I'm new to Juno, so I'm still farting around in it, but I am impressed with the alternate solutions to problems when compared to KSP. Its almost like an Advanced Tweakables2. I haven't tried it yet, but they have a customizable solution to wobbly rockets, for example. A hybrid of KSP and Juno would be interesting to try out. So therefore I think its impossible. Take Two would never do something fun, lol.
-
Actually, your Star Wars theory makes an insane amount of sense. Compare KSP2 to KSP1 then new Star Wars to the Original Trilogy. Maybe they thought they had to ruin it?
-
Have you seen the navball and font in Juno? I think we want Take Two on literally the opposite side of the planet so they can't interfere, lol.
-
You are mixing up experience with being given responsibility. Being told "what to do" can range from "here is a step-by-step list of micromanaged tasks that need to be completed" to "the end goal is X, I don't care how you get there. In fact, you are new, so as an old duffer, I'd like to see your thought process on solving these issues/completing this task. Maybe you can teach me a thing or two"
-
To be 100% honest, and I know I speak for more than just myself here, For Science! simply was not "good enough" FS! felt like I bought KSP1 off of Wish.com or something. Lol, yeah, I felt like I had to wear sunglasses playing the game at times.

I see @Exoscientist is currently busy. No doubt running the numbers on other engines that had test stand mishaps and the later service lives of said engines. I've been out of the loop for a bit. So this failure mode is similar to the FOHE on the British 777 at Heathrow a decade or so back?
-
I know lots will disagree with this sentiment and think of it like kicking someone while they are down, but when one is the leader of a project and that project fails, they need to own it. Or I should say people with integrity will own it. People with integrity will feel bad and sad about the project they led failing.

I think he is just playing the "youtube game" where all the trolls will watch the first 30 seconds and start posting complaints, whereas his target audience will watch the whole thing. Then stealing his catchphrase for the new craft name. I know Scott is a chill guy and probably doesn't lose sleep over it, but these billionaire game publishers couldn't even think up their own name? They had to rip off a guy that does youtube videos in his spare time? I honestly think this was done on purpose. They wanted a dumbed down KSP1 from the start. I think the intention was to show the inexperienced devs how complex KSP1 is and give them the task of removing all those annoying "complex" parts. They "Jenga'd" it, if you will. This a million times. I'm sure the guy is great to grab a beer with, but he is kryptonite to game development.

Have you guys ever done that thing where you get upset at something and imagine a worst-case scenario? Where all people involved except you are totally incompetent to make you feel better? I need a better imagination after seeing this comedy of errors, lol.

"War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing eachother spending $50 for Early Access." - Niko Belic Lol IG really outdid themselves with their implementation of their "Fog of War" Communication Interruption mechanic OK, all jokes aside, there is a non-zero value in the KSP franchise. The current state of the gaming industry makes me think that the major players pulling the strings are risk-off right now, but this can change in the future.

If I could start over again, I would totally start a demolition business, only instead of jackhammers and prybars, I'd use rocket engines

Squad hired Filipe to do marketing. He burned out and was going to quit. Squad said "You are a good worker, what will it take to keep you?" He said "I wanna make a video game!" I dunno what you are trying to get at with your comment about mobile games. Yeah, the early versions of KSP were 2D and similar to mobile games, but those weren't even publicly available. You are correct here, but this information can be spun both ways. You would like to spin it "Filipe made a bunch of amateur errors that led to spaghetti code and long load times, etc, etc." Whereas, I could spin it as "a total nobody with zero experience made a game so groundbreaking and successful that they were scared of shady characters figuring out where they were located in Mexico City because they were selling so many copies of KSP. Also, the owners of the highest grossing entertainment product of all time (GTAV and Take Two) thought the game was good enough to purchase the IP." I know you will try to deny this, but you obviously like KSP1. You have gripes about it, but love and hate are two sides of the same coin. If your words reflected your true feelings, you would be indifferent. Wasn't there also a mobile developer involved in the very early stages of KSP2? In another thread I mistakenly remembered Star Theory originally as one, and someone corrected me. Can't find it for the life of me though.

I don't follow your logic. I believe what HarvesteR said, I don't believe that ANYONE (that makes decisions) at IG or T2 would listen to him. In fact, I'd bet on them going "HarvesteR said this, lets prove him wrong. He is just an amateur, we are professionals with deep pockets!"
