How can TakeTwo justify layoffs with this revenue ?
Meecrob replied to DanW's topic in KSP2 Discussion
How it works is it frees up resources for Cap Ex so hopefully the next thing they back takes off. This being Take Two, I severely doubt they will back something properly. -
[Snip] Show me where he said "Falcon 9 was all me and these hundreds of people standing with me were all fetching me coffee while I scienced the excrements out of this rocket!" [Snip]

[Snip] You can't even admit that he's actually good at what he does so you say he got other people to do it for him. YES!!!! That's what good managers do! Additionally he is a damn good engineer. Go look it up. If you want to take the man down a peg or two, you can't be using strawmen arguments. Don't be ignorant. This is a place with smart people, and you cannot beat knowledge with ignorance. Y'know, you can inherit an emerald mine and also be able to come up with ideas. Nowhere did I say anything about the man's privilege; I was pointing out his intellect. I see what you are getting at, but Elon likes revolutions. For instance, I bet none of you looked into my hints about Starlink upthread. Go look up the X phone...comes starlink capable standard. Terrestrial cell phones will be obslolete very soon. He can undercut the prices easily. Given this mindset, If he wants to endeavour to have a KSP like game as a recruiting tool, he would make it be a mic drop on KSP2, rather than saving it from failure. Finally a sane person! He's like the real life South Park. Liquids everyone off equally, lol. https://www.theverge.com/2015/6/9/8752333/elon-musk-blastar-pc-game Also, just like he delayed and underdelivered Falcon 9, right? [Snip] [Snip] Being born into wealth has nothing to do with what you use it for. You treat him like he's a Kardashian! If all he did was run an emerald mine to gain his wealth, why aren't the second and third richest men also running mines since its clearly so lucrative?

Same here, I thought I was too old to go back to school so I played KSP instead. For context I was a laid off aircraft mechanic after the 2008 economic "correction." I worked on a bunch of stuff including the Diamond D-Jet and its L-39 chase plane. Anyways, laid off, I had to get a job to pay the bills so I got into logistics, which scratched the itch for the logical, problem-solving part of my brain vs. something like sales or management. I'm stuck in this job and my dream and passion is now a smoking hole in the ground. At least I can play KSP! And after about 5000 hours I realized that screw it, I can "fake" my way past any entrance exam for any of these courses directly from the knowledge I gained from playing KSP! As for where I would be in life without it? I had enough money saved up after a decade of toiling away in shipping to finish up some of my flying licenses, only to run out of money due to Covid issues like aircraft and instructor availability. So yeah, I'd be in shipping still. Probably being told by some idiot boss how to do my own job because they asked chatGPT and it says I should do my job this way, lol!
-
Lol, TRUTH! Yes, just like gravity and relativity are also "theories." Mark my words, KSP2 is cancelled. No ifs ands, or buts. I know peolpe are saying we should give all viewpoints a chance and have a nice discussion about it, but when one "theory" is on the level of the geocentric model of the solar system, you are allowed to say, no, thats krakens, the sun in the middle, and KSP2 is cancelled!
-
He saw, but as I said in the thread on this very topic, if he wants to make a vidja game, he'd just make a spaceflight simulator himself. Lol call it "KayEssPee - not Kerbal Space Program"
-
At what point do you see yourself "committing" more seriously to KSP2?
Meecrob replied to RileyHef's topic in KSP2 Discussion
You kidding me? Take two just proved they are SO in that they will straight up stop development! I mean how could I NOT go all in? -
PERFECT!!! This thread is for me! So I know none of y'all will believe me, but Elon already read this thread, and his response is "why would I pay money for that dumpster fire when I can use my billions of dollars to make my own game..with blackjack and hoo..(you guys know the Futurama quote)" Yes, this is my response to all of you who don't believe me. We know he loves KSP1, we know he loves excrements-posting on twitter. He does the same thing here. You actually think he is trying to turn a profit? The third richest man in the world needs Twitter of all things for some spending money? Nah, he bought Twitter to harvest all of everyone's data. Go look up what Google sells data for to advertisers. $44 billion was arguably a deal for the data he got. Who is the only one with the correct mindset to industrialize spaceflight? Without him, face it, we are stuck with NASA fragile Rube-Goldberg-esque rockets. I'll take a million Elons before one more like Bezos. He fixed lots of stuff...Heard of SpaceX? Starlink? You guys know that Starlink isn't actually primarily for internet, right? It has already singlehandedly obsoleted the Keyhole spy satellites. Think about it: thousands of cameras in LEO! And thats only one of the applications I can tell you about. There are many more in the works. Actually one more...so you know how Starlink communicates with eachother via laser? Military-grade laser targeting worldwide. Russkies trying to use some laser guided bombs? What if we knew the wavelength of that laser and spoofed it so it targets a field instead of civillians. That is the crux of the issue with Starlink being used in Ukraine. They tell the media its about free internet..and there is 100% truth behind the tactical advantages it gives communications-wise, but the real issue is hiding the truth about the direct military applications from the public. Not the Russians. I know you will ask me why am I saying it then? None of you will believe me, lol. Overall, I get that Elon is a target and I get his personality is abrasive to say the least, but he didn't get to where he is by thinking at the same pace as everyone else. He's 13 steps ahead of me even, let alone people who are sick of seeing and hearing about him everywhere and just want him to shut the eff up! Finally, I'll tell the whole board Elon's pseudonym the day before Take Two shuts these boards down, I promise, hand over heart. I'm not keping it a secret, I've posted hints in other threads. It was a throughly enjoyable mystery for me to solve, and I hope that others can share in that feeling!

They get that emotions are running high and its best to let everyone accept and digest the information. Most peole are not mentally in the correct position to think about this logically. Their beloved game has just been ripped out of their hands! I know I'm about to sound like I'm on my high horse, but I promise you I am just trying to show my perspective; I get that there are a lot of younger people here that got introduced to KSP with KSP2. I'm guessing a lot of you have not been through absolute end game capitalism layoffs like this. Trust me when It happened to me the first time, It took me a LONG time to accept what had happened. Now I'm jaded as eff. I imagine the moderation team is in the same boat. I spoke with @Vanamonde and he mentioned he has been a lead mod for over a decade. You cannot work for that long without having some absolute curve-balls thrown at you. As Calvin's dad from Calvin and Hobbes would say "it builds character!" I hope everyone can find peace with the horrible news we were all given. Remember, tomorrow is another day, the world is still turning!

I'm not going to debate tried-and-true methods of damage control that have been used since trade was invented. You screw up, you own it, you fix it, you ask forgiveness. Take Two has done none of those. The layoffs are because Take Two thinks they are more business-savvy than they are.
-
If Take Two had any business sense, they would refund everyone who bought KSP2, with a message saying "We promised our valued customers an experience that we did not deliver on. We therefore cannot accept your money. We will continue to work on KSP2, but on our own dollar, not yours. We are exiting the EA business model for KSP2 and will be releasing a 1.0 version at some point in the future when it is finished. We sincerely hope that when we have a game that is worthy of your hard-earned dollars, you will consider giving KSP2 a second look."
-
The fact they are radio-silent is all the proof anyone should need that this is official. its 8:45am in Seattle. They have had time to respond if they had a response. Lol, watch the reply be: "We didn't want to tell you the studio was closing until we knew for sure. We knew you guys would be upset if we told you it was closing, then we stayed open...We want to manage expectations around here."

I have to agree that this stood out like a sore thumb for me.

Lol, I wouldn't put it past Take Two to invade our hard drives and delete our copies of KSP2 just to erase its failure from the media's collective memory. Edit: Jokes aside, I'm guessing they mean that Take Two will release whatever the dev team gets complete in the next 60 days as well as keep the dischord and forums going, and stuff like that, but I doubt we are seeing much more.

RIP Kerbal Space Program 2: It's Maybe Over?
Meecrob replied to AtomicTech's topic in KSP2 Discussion
Yeah, it doesn't get more real than this. Take Two is legally covering their butts here. Because this IS happening. I 100% get people not wanting to believe everything they read on the internet, but in this case... -
Lol, yup. I would be absolutely livid if I were @Dakota The powers that be had him hold the fort down for 5 months, just to be let go? I mean I knew we were in late-stage capitalism, but I didn't expect the abuse of Human Capital to be quite so blatant. I wish him and everyone else involved a smooth transition to new employment.

Thank you! I predict we will be getting a lot of solidarity once GTA6 drops, and everyone finds out why the Houser Bros., et al left Rockstar. When scummy companies know they are axing a whole division, they love to have rumours going around that its only one or two underperformers getting let go, or something similar. They get extra performance out of everyone for free because everyone fears for their position.

With how much Take Two told us, I would love to hear the play-by-play of what they told the IG employees. I imagine there are slightly less than 70 extremely surprised individuals right now. As much as I butted heads with IG, nobody deserves to be "jump-scare-layoffed." That's just cowardly. This is the final straw, I'm boycotting Take Two. I know Strauss Zelnick is sleeping on a pile of money and doesn't care, its the principle of it. If you want to make money faster, produce higher quality products faster, don't shovel garbage, then throw your own dev team under the bus so you can do a tax write-off for the failed game. With regards to obtaining the IP; do we really want to give Take Two MORE of our money? Or do we want to call it something like "KayEssPee" as a middle finger to them? You can't copyright the concept of a spaceflight simulator. We can make the little characters purple and call them "Labreks" or something.

Arguably among the best on the internet, even! One used to be proud to be a member here. Your post does absolutely nothing, lol. @OP99's post does tells us something. Lets look at some context, shall we? Nate Simpson dropped a tone-deaf, year-late update and the only other thread getting traction around here is "What Happened to Increased Communication?" I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but it seems pretty clear that OP99 is liquided at being told nothing about KSP2. If I ran a company, and my customers were going to the trouble of signing up to my forum specifically to say "Bye, you lost a customer," I'd drop everything to look into it immediately! Fake edit: Before anyone schools me on how game dev works, I don't care, lol. This is business 101.

What happened to increased communication?
Meecrob replied to DoomsdayDuck555's topic in KSP2 Discussion
No excrements! Thats my point! I am saying how I want those things to be in the game. No they aren't. How are resources limiting my early-game builds similar to how not having much in the way of funds did when starting a new career in KSP1. Currently, when you launch your first craft in KSP2 Exploration mode, you have no limitations other than tech tree unlocks. I can make a 2000 ton vehicle as my "starting" rocket. Does that make sense to you? One of the benefits of all the limitations in KSP1 was so you could REPLAY career mode by choosing different strategies based upon how you wanted to handle the limitations. Exploration Mode lets you "explore" as long as its to what might as well be a flashing neon arrow that says "SCIENCE HERE" Just because a feature was not implemented in the best way in KSP1 does not mean it is garbage. Why don't we use this opportunity during EA as a community and discuss the pros and cons of the XP system and how it can be improved or replaced with a different system with similar functionality? Also, hundreds of Kerbals? That's funny because KSP1 had a built-in mechanism to prevent this and make you more attached to your Kerbals...they cost money to train. THANK YOU!!! Finally someone understands what I am saying!! Now do you get we are arguing the same point? We were told this game was gonna be KSP1 plus colonies, interstellar and multiplayer. We are not getting KSP1 plus colonies, interstellar and multiplayer, we are getting [a different game] plus colonies, interstellar and multiplayer. You will forgive me for not believing this until I see it. I must say I am impressed with the faith many of you have. You cannot state your own opinion as if it is objective truth. Are you saying your opinion is more valuable or correct than mine? How much did you spend on KSP2? $50? According to the shareholders, our opinions are exactly equal, lol. Fake Edit: Wait, you know that Kerbal XP is toggleble, right? -
Try again at dusk. Get above the clouds and aim the camera back down towards Kerbin.

Meecrob replied to DoomsdayDuck555's topic in KSP2 Discussion
What are you confused about? I said I think Take Two is making a watered-down version of KSP for KSP2, and every official word and release has proven me right so far. Its also been a huge factor that a bunch of the white knights around here don't bother reading what I write and end up taking what I'm trying to say in negative directions unnecessarily. Its a two way street. Nobody is "doomsaying" anything. People are making observations based upon evidence available to everyone. Remember, this is the same company that did GTA Definitive Edition. I'm not trying to start a debate about Take Two, I'm just saying thats a reason I do not trust them. Edit: Sorry everyone, I don't use emojis, I'm laughing as I type all these replies. To prove I'm not just some grumpy jerk, heres what I did today between my two posts: -
Weekly Challenge #52: Challenge Combo!
Meecrob replied to Dakota's topic in Challenges & Mission Ideas
Sorry for the double post, but this threadis still stickied. Here is some B-roll I made into a trailer of sorts to hopefully keep interest in this challenge until myself, NexusHelium and anyone else participating get a chance to finish
