Very interesting. I love finding out all the interesting abandoned designs. I'll try and support as many as I can but any bespoke Super Juno / Juno V parts will probably be folded into the Saturn 1 development, since the tankage is the same just different mounting plates. E-1 is interesting. Would it be like a... maybe 1.7m engine? 1.875m? That will definitely get done. I hesitate to say whether or not you could actually use BDB Redstone and Juno tanks to make a Saturn 1 stage. I think the various roundings in sizing would add up and make everything not fit together. The Saturn 1 / Juno V first stage will be getting a bespoke tank(s) anyways since it deserves a unique paint job. @NecroBones dern. Looks like I'm striking it out alone. @sp1989 There are several people (officially @Sgt.Shutesie and unofficially @Foxxonius Augustus, I believe others) who have been working on craft files. One of my goals for the next update is to find some better way to organize the mod. Perhaps I'll experiment tonight with changing the manufacturer names so that the different rocket series can be separated using the manufacturer tabs? I've been saying that for a while but haven't actually sat down to try it. Part of my insistence on not including such things was that while the parts are all based on real rockets, I would rather see them used in a lego mindset, with parts mix and matched from all over. But it seems the majority of the players swing the opposite way, so I'll try and better support that in the future. @Mad Rocket Scientist I... Uh... Think @A1Ch1 was working on some. The most recent post regarding it is here. I would also love to see RO configs happen for the mod, but I am primarily an artist and need a ton of help just to get the stock configs working + balanced. Also, my night class got cancelled. All this talk on the forums, combined with the progress I've made on the Juno parts, has returned some of my KSP hype. I'm still trying to get some work done at the lab but stay tuned for a post re: streaming tonight. Will try and stream as late as I can. ALSO as a result of all the hubub that keeps happening here IRL, other people keep replying, which means I have to reply to them in this post, which gives the next person time to post... etc etc. So I'm hitting submit now. Laters!

Yes, that works for dimensions but not necessarily things like fuel amounts, because those are volumetric / cubic scaling. And the fuel amount determines weight, which determines how much thrust an engines need to make a stage flyable. Again, my example would be that the Mainsail's thrust isn't twice that of a reliant. EDIT2: Also I tend to favor 62.5% scaling for rocket parts as that makes things line up better with KSP sizes which are factors of 0.625. EDIT: Yo we hot right now
-
Well like I said the H-1 is coming, if only because it's a cool looking engine and it'd be a shame not to include it. But that'd put the H1 at... I dunno, say 250-300 thrust. Which in the Saturn 1 configuration would give 2000-2400 thrust. Saturn 1... well, 3.75m is small but I'm not sure how much it matters because frankly I think 3.75m looks fine. Correct scaling would be 4.125m. Is 2000-2400 thrust enough to lift a 3.75m rocket?
-
And as a result, I'm starting to fear that I'll have to actually make the darn thing instead of shunting it off to him. Darn (EDIT: I'd actually rather see a revamp of Proton and a finished Ariane V anyways) On a more serious note, wouldn't the sizing for everything else remain the same? The kerbal scale diameters of everything else assume a 0.625-ish scale, and isn't it just the Soyuz that is small?

I was more referring to people that were getting excited for Saturn / Apollo. Hype is good and all but getting excited doesn't make it happen faster. H-1 is actually getting made for the Atlas update (after Juno) so by the time I get to Saturn 1 all I'll have to model are the fuel tanks. Though I suppose I'd have to move such engines to a different shared folder or some such... The LR-87-1 is going to get attachment / shroud I just need to get around to it. Making Super Juno / Juno V first stage might be hard even if you have the correct tanks just because of the attach nodes. I'm a little confused though... exactly how powerful would an H-1 have to be in game in order for a Saturn B-1 to work? That thing is huge... the second stage is 4 Atlas booster engines (or two Titan 1 engines? unclear).

Alledgedly @Jso has a Real Fuels config for Bluedog Design Bureau.
-
But... I already put so much time into Atlas and Delta so you wouldn't have to! *cough*doitbeale*cough* Do you mean the capsule itself or Gemini as a whole (including the SM?)

The Apollo Applications Program: 1.0 Edition
CobaltWolf replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Anyone planning on doing ALSEP using the SEP mod? -
Oh dear. To preempt any hype that my be directed towards Saturn/Apollo... no. They're really not that close. I know that on paper it says they're only 2 (3?) releases away (not counting any split releases to keep updates somewhat regular) but they're really not. I look at that list and I see a couple hundred parts and god knows how much work before we get to Saturn/Apollo. My current goal is to try and get this update finished by the end of March, the next by the end of May, and the 1.0 release by the end of the summer (which coincidentally would come close to the one year anniversary of the mod). EDIT: Those estimates are somewhat conservative to allow for distractions, either in the form of work, other games, or other mod projects that I take on (expanding SEP, for example).

@Foxxonius Augustus cool video! I think the cameras would be upset with you for point them at the sun though I'll have to make some solar science parts at some point. I felt pretty spent with my IRL stuff so I put in a couple hours before my night class. The major Juno tanks are unwrapped. The engines, well... need some more work.
-
Aight, back to UV unwrapping Juno then.

@Beale any chance you can have those diagonal fairings on the engines? That's my favorite part of the Proton design.

Thanks! Just going to have to work through it tomorrow. I really would like to stream tonight but it wouldn't start until late-ish (after 8PM EST) and I'm not sure how long I'll be able to work for. In any case, tonight I'm planning on starting to UV unwrap either Diamant or Juno (opinions?) to try and start moving this update forward. I think once I get the pipeline flowing again things will return to normal around here, albeit still at a slower pace.

Bluedog Design Bureau has not one, but three cameras. The leftmost one is a starting tech film camera that can hold 4 'samples' (ie same has having 4 film resource)

Midterms feedback came back. Generally speaking, the better you did, the longer the feedback since the professors nitpick more in depth instead of saying the general things you did wrong. Mine were two sentences each. T.T Looks like I'm not out of the woods yet. @Sgt.Shutesie What about Odin + Plus? So it'd be Odinus or Odus. @davidy12 I have to remake that capsule, or at least the textures. It was inspired by the HGR part but I made it from scratch. I can't just include OrionKermin's IVA, and at any rate, it requires additional props that would add to the ram footprint of BDB. Speaking of the Karrot IVA, @stratochief66 you're right the portraits in the lower right hand corner don't appear since there's no IVA set for the part. I'll have to set it to the default IVA so that you get portraits. I'm not planning on doing any IVAs for my stuff, since I honestly have no desire to do them and the people that genuinely care (ie would actually run missions from inside and not just look inside once or twice) are a very small minority. If anyone is really upset by that I invite them to make IVAs for the pods and I'll include their IVAs + credit them appropriately. On the topic of the EVA oddities, the Karrot was the first capsule I made and there are some quirks related to setting them up in Unity. I can take another look at it, it sounds like I mostly just need to adjust the ladder and capsule colliders in Unity.
-
Good to know that our Gemini sizing plans work then! On the topic of an intermediate size for large parts, I believe 3.125 has to be used for something or other in BDB. I remember seeing that I'd have to use it when I was running some numbers a couple weeks back. So you wouldn't bee alone if you chose to use it. EDIT: @spacecookie ugh thanks for reminding me how awful the texture on the Mariner 4 antenna is. It looks like a pair of striped stockings dangling from the ship... I definitely need to push that redux up in my priorities.

I'm sorry but KJR is absolutely a must have mod, if only for performance reasons - you'll only have to use struts in extreme circumstances, allowing for much more realistic rockets. Heck, that along with Hyperedit and KER are the only mods I have on my dev install. I just bring it up because there's really no way for Beale to fix it on his end, but KJR is a universal fix for wiggly rockets from ANY mod.

Name it the same convention as the real life one. The names of the relevant parts are Odin, Alpha, Alphastar, etc. So Odin, Odin-Alpha, Odin-Alphastar. Odinad? Idk bout that one, probably going to have to come up with something. I'm also unsure of what to do with Agena since that is named RMA. Somewhat related, but the Thor-Able and Thor-Ablestar can have those triangle fins on them. Well, you asked for it. @Beale please share your trick. Also, I have noticed some inconsistencies lately with Andegraf. For example, the engines on Redstone and Atlas are wrong. It has been making me question the accuracy of the rest of the site.
