  1. Alright. I just asked because I'm definitely guilty of at times using fairing, autoshroud, and interstage interchangeably. So... yeah I don't know? I think BDB definitely needs a generic 2.5m fairing base and decoupler. The problem being that... fairing bases and decouplers are actually really hard to make? It's difficult to make them feel unique / special. I'm not sure what I would do for them. I think I probably need to try though. Anyways, I'm not looking to go too overboard with this, but I do want to have some different mounting options... Here's the "canon" 2.5m straight interstage... I'd also like to do one that ends in a 1.875m adapter so it can be used with Titan and even Atlas... And then a 3.125m adapter interstage for mating to LDC. I think the potential that DCSS has for an LDC third stage is pretty great...
  2. Yep, not going anywhere any time soon. So, sorry, but I'm not sure I follow - what do you mean by decouplers and fairing bases? (Just so I answer correctly)
  3. I'll see. I'm going to have to have a second texture sheet for the interstage anyways... speaking of which, that's going to have some variants too... Also, I must say - it's not me you have to thank for this! @blowfish did a wonderful job modeling this part for me! I just had to texture it. In the meantime, an update to the Commercial Titan 3 fairing base! Be warned, it doesn't seem to work with Jso's PF patch. EDIT: Commercial Titan 3 upper stage texture... I think a first stage variant needs to get done as well.
  4. Bunch of stuff got done today! In total: - LR-91-AJ3 single vernier - LR-91-AJ5 four vernier - LR-91-AJ11 four vernier - Gray variants for Titan 1 and Titan first stage texture sheets - Cleaned up white texture variants - 23G variant for the second stage - SOLTAN 1.5m SRB - SOLTAN nose cone with 0.9375m node switch - 0.9375m node switch for 1.875m SRB nose cone - 0.9375m booster recovery parachute - new mesh variant for upper first stage tanks to remove the hotstaging portholes In addition to yesterday's: - new switch for SRMUs to make them fit on LDC better - SRMU-XL - Short Titan 1.5m second stage tank
  5. Alright, looks like we got a full day of Titan work to get done! Sorry for the late start y'all but stream is going live!
  6. In a hurry, please check this Twitter thread for an update on what got done today! I even got a head start on tomorrow's work!
  7. After it came up earlier, I was curious: Saturn 1B Also, I'm planning on streaming both mornings this weekend! Starting around... let's say 8 AM Eastern. Plan for Saturday: Gemini Solar Wings 45 degree Ferry RCS Gemini Docking Antennas Big G '69 (nice) Service Module Large Solar Array for Four Room Space Station Fix (ie non-tracking) Tianja solar arrays Fix-up pass on the KH-10 Dorian Plan for Sunday: LR-91-AJ3 (single vernier) (I think I'm just going to add these as separate parts) LR-91-AJ5 (quad vernier) LR-91-AJ11 (quad vernier) Short Titan 1 second stage tank 3 segment SRMU Add a variant to SRMUs without the inside hold down block Add a variant to the Titan first stage tanks that gets rid of the hot-staging ports Maybe texture variants? idk
  8. What exactly is the issue? Straight dV or..? Saturn 1B has always had issues in BDB due to being underscaled. If I remember, I have more luck lofting it a bit on the first stage.
  9. WANTED MORE FEEDBACK ON THIS the resulting engine list would be: - Single-nozzle LR-87 // variants: AJ3, AJ5, AJ5-Kerolox, AJ11, AJ11-Kerolox, AJ11V, AJ11V-Kerolox - Double-nozzle LR-87 // variants: AJ3, AJ5, AJ5-Kerolox, AJ11, AJ11-Kerolox - Single-vernier LR-91 // variants: AJ3, AJ5, AJ5-Kerolox, AJ11, AJ11-Kerolox - Quad-vernier LR-91 // variants: AJ3, AJ5, AJ5-Kerolox, AJ11, AJ11-Kerolox - LR-87-LH2-SL - LR-87-LH2-V So you can see, suddenly you go from... 10 parts, to 6 parts. And the number of variants goes from 10 to 24. The kerolox variants are essentially for my own headcanon - I want to be able to use Titans without spraying dragon's blood everywhere Essentially they would just be slightly less thrust, slightly more ISP, kerolox plumes instead of hypergolic plumes. Since it's just a B9 switch they'd be pretty harmless - assuming plume switching gets worked out for B9, these are happening either way. EDIT: The alternative would be to just add the LR-91-AJ3 single vernier, LR-91-AJ5 and -AJ11 quad verniers, and maybe the AJ3 and AJ5 single-nozzles. Kerolox version wouldn't have to be separate parts.
  10. iirc the solution was going to be a new variant of the RS-68 that was fully regenerative, but that never happened.
  11. Seriously though!!! Ah, indeed. We're not nearly done with Gemini yet - but more stuff is going to have to wait for Saturn revamp since a lot of the lunar Gemini stuff is explicitly related to the diameter of the S-IVB. I don't think I've ever seen a description of it outside of Astronautix, yeah. But... AJ-260s w/ "drop" tanks is such a badass thing to do that it definitely has to be given consideration for the eventual Saturn rework. By the way @Pappystein, you mentioned an S-1C with a "flat" bulkhead. Wouldn't it be a common bulkhead instead..? I actually have a model from... I think an old NasaSpaceflight thread, where someone figured out what a common bulkhead S-IC would look like. See the second from right in this picture: Yeah, that doesn't sound right. The S-II stage bordered on being pressure stabilized because the mass had to keep being reduced. It basically wound up being forced to pick up the slack from any under performance elsewhere in the stack as the design progressed. On a technical level it's probably more impressive than the S-IC or the S-IVB. Unrelated but fun fact that I just remembered (I hope correctly) there were actually 3 completely different insulation schemes used on the Saturn V - the S-II and S-IVB used completely different schemes, and one of them (I want to say... the S-IVB?) had its insulation scheme completely changed after the uncrewed flights. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I tried double checking this but couldn't find a good reference) Kiiiind of a Jupiter III.... I can't help but notice the additional SRMUs jammed in there
  12. Those both look awesome! Saturn revamp is a very very far "eventually" - there's basically no way I can do it before KSP2 comes out, so it will probably be made from scratch for KSP2. Apollo and the LEM... probably the same. I can't really speak to it yet (mostly because I haven't looked into things yet), but rest assured that Saturn will get the same above-and-beyond treatment that Titan has been getting. Incidentally, there was a 10m S-IVB design I can think of off the top of my head: The Comet Saturn design for First Lunar Outpost. Small update, peak at some of the remaining Gemini parts: Redone solar wing, and some rendezvous radar dishes that will probably have a couple variants (deployable, fixed, etc) Also note the 45 degree version of the Gemini Ferry RCS
  13. The large recon is definitely possible if someone gives me a patch for it - if I remember, the functionality for those isn't available in DMagicScienceAnimate so it can be natively embedded... I don't remember if it works without the toggleable meshes for the data. SCANSat is tbd for... reasons.
  14. Yeah, that's a good idea. We basically have the entirety of DMagicScienceAnimate to play with here, which has a slightly different feature set than the main plugin in DMagic Orbital Science. There's a lot of balance levers and features.
  15. Wow, Zorg made me delete the entire post I was writing. Alright, yeah I'll see about sliding that transform in there if someone can test it. It's interesting - as that article points out, it's sort of... curious? That they'd even bother, since the number of astronomers who had security clearance to see photos from the older Keyholes - let alone Dorian - probably could be counted on one hand if at all. In terms of a dedicated MOL camera experiment, I could probably use help writing a proper set of sciencedefs for it. I think it's just using the existing camera experiment right now which... meh. They're not really comparable but I don't know how you'd even differentiate.
  16. Hmm, I don't think it was any particular reference I was aiming for. I've only seen that movie once years ago, I should check it out again. It would definitely be cool to have! Perhaps you could take a look at it? I don't know if there are any additional transforms needed for Tarsier (or Cacteye, for that matter). MOL's KH-10 camera system was evaluated for astronomy in real life! http://www.thespacereview.com/article/3290/1
  17. You asked for it, you got it - KH-10 "Dorian" camera system! Now, good luck actually getting it to take clear pictures with all those meatsacks bouncing around in there!
  18. So, something I've been thinking about... I'd like to be able to have a single-vernier version of the LR-91-AJ3, and four-vernier versions of the LR-91-AJ5 and AJ11. and, with the features that are in B9 now that weren't when we started this update, it's now possible to combine stat switching, stat switching, and eventually plume switching in the same part. What isn't easy to B9 switch is the layout of parts. What I'm proposing, is a single part for all the double-nozzle LR-87s, a single part for all the single-nozzle LR--87s (excluding the LH2s), a single part for all the single-vernier LR-91s, a single part for all the four-vernier LR-91s. That gives a lot of lego'ing potential that we otherwise might have missed out on. As a visual aid... So, all these would be one part: LR-87-AJ3, AJ5, AJ11, AJ11-Vac. If plume switching starts working in B9, then we can also have kerolox versions of the AJ5 and AJ11 - slightly less thrust, slightly more ISP, mostly for my non-hypergol headcanon All that's required is a simple mesh switch of the nozzle to accompany the stat switches. Similarly, you could have Titan 1 style verniers on all your LR-91s - and yes, I'd like to have kerolox versions of these available The Titan 1 LR-91 would also be able to have a single vernier if you wanted: tl;dr replace the specific variants of the Titan engines with parts that essentially represent different layouts, with the different LR-87 and -91 variants represented by B9 switches that switch nozzles, stats and plumes?
