  1. So just to clarify, for KSP you can pretty much disregard the number of cores and only focus on clock speed for the CPU?
  2. I came up with this build on pcpartpicker.com and was wondering if it would be good for ksp. I am not sure about the graphics card, it is by far the most expensive part on my build and was wondering if I could go cheaper. link
  3. Do you ever find yourself pressing tab to autocomplete in situations where it makes no sense? (i.e web addresses, google docs) Recently I have found myself doing way to much. Am I the exception or is this normal for linux users?
  4. So I took off from laythe, thinking I had enough fuel to get to vall. However, I totally underestimated the amount of delta-v to take off from laythe with a spaceplane and did not refuel before taking off again. So now I have a ship stuck in vall orbit so I am going to have to send a refueling mission to the ship. which also happens to be in a polar orbit. Pics to come, see the end of the album for more! EDIT: pics to come a bit later, figured uploading 17 megs of pictures over my phones wifi tethering might be a bad Idea
  5. Your mission is to build an ssto that can visit the joolian moons except Tylo. Simple Enough. Rules: Mods? yes! (no hyperedit) even parts? yep. (keep it reasonable, this is a challange folks) mechjeb? why of course. part clipping? no intakes in intakes / clipping tanks in tanks / any other clips that significantly affect preformance (i.e rtgs clipped in the body are ok but wings clipped in wings for more lift in stock are not) refueling? in kerbin orbit only. karbonite / kethane? go ahead. if your using karbonite and you find it will take months to refuel feel free to edit the configs to give yourself fuel as long as you will refuel completely eventually Points? not visiting all of the moons required: -allyourpoints not an ssto (no parts deliberately dropped): -allyourpoints visiting tylo as well: +1000 for each kerbal brought: +50 for each kerbal who does not return: -3000 mass: -5 per ton (fully fueled) stock: +1000 no part clipping (except for tricky attachments): +500 rover (has to be able to reattach to main ship): +500 for each laythe island visited: +50 visiting an anomaly: +100 each not putting anomaly pic in spoiler: -1000 no refueling (kerbin orbit): +100 no refueling (kethane / karbonite): +4000 no airbreathing engines: +2000 (you beast:D) no nukes: +1000 not posting screens in alblum / spoiler: -2000 no mechjeb: +100 if you have any other ideas leave a comment below: Leaderboard: 1. 2. 3. my attempt(ongoing)
  6. I managed to land fine and intend to continue the mission as planned. among other mishaps, my very hackish rover that has four RTG's clipped inside the body also happens to be the only source of power on the ship. (As unintentional punishment for my debug menu sins) I plan to go on to a few more islands on laythe and visit vall, bop and pol before coming back to kerbin. The thing about vall though is that i'm not sure I have the TWR to make the planned tail first landing at the anomaly. So I might have to land using a burst of thrust from the rapiers and take off horizontally if RCS cannot push up the nose. It's going to be fun:cool:. I also have no ladders so to get the kerbals back on the plane I have to lower the gear and do a jetpack assisted jump onto the wing.
  7. This is my spaceplane that I sent to explore the joolian system (exluding tylo, don't have the twr), all launched in one stage from kerbin and with refuleing provided by my station and kethane. I present: The L.S.S Andromeda
  8. I landed a spaceplane on laythe! It was a very messy approach, I messed up the aerobrake at Jool and Laythe so I had to use kerbalmaps to find a new Island to land on (I was originally going to land on the big island on the leftmost of the screen but ended up on the island at 23 north, 72 west) Click me for full report
  9. What is a mod that includes a pid tuner? This would be a really nice thing to have.
  10. sorry for putting this in the wrong forum, didn't really know where to post it. Thanks anonymod!
  11. I have always thought of it as "eye-ess-pee" but beybe some pronounce it as all one word i.e. "issp"* *This may or may not be a stupid question that just came into my mind while reading the wikipedia article on the rocket equation:wink:
  12. I think mechjeb adds rcs to throttle if you have the rcs balancer enabled, that would also explain your roll problem because it sees that you do not need rcs to preform a roll maneuver
  13. Your docking ports are not connected to each other, rather they are connected to the same node (green balls in the sph) and clipped together. move the payload back until you see the docking ports connected as if they are docked.
  14. Sig relates to user name. interesting but confusing 5/10
  15. Is there a way to make a plane that can fly at low enough speeds to land on surfaces other than the runway and also be able to fly at the speeds necessary for a spaceplane?
  16. Hello! Also a Canadian here but currently living in the states!
  17. So based on the the oberth effect, would it be a really good Idea to build a refueling base out on minmus because you can get goind crazy fast around kerbin pe and exploit the oberth effect for fun and profit? can you find my super sneaky pun?
  18. The way I see it that works in my mind is that the higher kinetic energy you have at periapsis, the higher your apoapsis will be. Since kinetic energy grows with the square of velocity, the faster you are moving, the less change in velocity you need to get the same change in kinetic energy.
  19. Ok. From what I seen here, My problem was that I was assuming fuel = delta v so now I see thats not the case and everything makes sense now (on a side note, does this mean that delta-v numbers in kerbal engineer are just rough estimates?)
  20. I know that the oberth effect is that you burn more efficiently when moving faster. What i'm confused about is how it gets you a delta-v advantage when you have to spend delta-v to get up to that speed?
  21. Laughed so hard at this. I Feel your pain, fellow developer:)
  22. It works with engines that consume any ratio of LFO, other mixed types of fuel (can you give me an example of this, I can't think of one) are a planned feature. It works by looking at the ratio of full liquid fuel to current liquid fuel and sets the oxidizer so it is the same ratio. basically if the liquid is 34% full than oxidizer will be 34% as well.
  23. I built an ssto that can make it all the way out to the mun / minmus and back with its karbonite capabilities! EDIT: post 100!
