On kerbnet, satellites and anomalies.
LordFerret replied to ArmchairPhysicist's topic in KSP1 Discussion
SCANsat! No, really, SCANsat. If you're hunting anomalies and seeking science (biomes), it's excellent. -
That in itself could be your story! This one... https://www.kongregate.com/games/bitgem/balls-vs-zombies

Honestly? No. More than likely, somebody would be upset or angered to hear you say such a thing, and you could end up losing your job... a job you worked so very hard to attain. Think about it!

"When all else fails, read the directions." I finally hit 80 last night, but then realized it wasn't saving the *new* high scores. Turns out it's a bug, mentioned as such in the Dev's notes.

Yes, I know, Asperger's presents itself with these behaviors. This needs to be understood, patience and understanding go a long way here. The requirements can be obtained. Guidance and counseling are required, it's a long road, but not an impossible journey.

I'm sorry, but I find that a bit unkind. A little understanding is required here. Don't give up your dreams. Work on them. Seek guidance.

Why should I? What makes your belief / opinion any more valid? No room for skepticism? I wasn't aware it was 'settled science'. And since when is it ok for you to make personal attacks on me in this light? And as far as the reentry goes, up until the last verified moments all manner of speculation abound.

And then there's all those other cycles. We know nothing. We just think we do.

"Public Invited to Come Aboard NASA’s First Mission to Touch the Sun" Really?!? Who is the idiot who allowed this article title? I can just see it now, a plethora of the uneducated believing what this idiot wrote; They'll think they can actually board a spaceship and ride out and touch the sun. Who edits this stuff? Come on NASA, you can do better than that..... can't you? Oh..... wait..... yea..... government employee. Otherwise, I thought only KSP'ers did sundiving.

China space lab may fall to Earth later: European Space Agency "... the agency said calmer space weather was now expected ..." First it was 'climate change', and now, we'll have 'space change'.

Apparently, according to Wikipedia, I'm on the cusp between older and younger boomers. I had thought GenX was called such because that population was supposed to be the 10th generation ('X') since American Independence... although the Wiki says 13th. Close but no cigar.
-
Had a conversation with someone today. We were wondering what the 'new' generation is called. There were Baby Boomers (of which I believe I'm one, I think), and Gen-X. After that, I don't know. It was suggested this new generation be called Gen-Huh? ... although my suggestion was Gen-Gimme. What do you think? Anyway. I don't often yell and shake my fist at games, but when I do... it's this one..... https://www.kongregate.com/games/bitgem/balls-vs-zombies For the life of me, I cannot get past 70. Grrrrr

Oh my. That was downright scary. Welcome to the club! @Archgeek and I both are sundivers from way back. Go ahead, push it... you can get closer! I had similar problems. I try not to make a habit of clipping parts (although, lately .....), but it was the only way I could get my rover solution to work. One of the problems I had was right after undocking the payload, where the rover(s) would vault up and out (explode) - because of the way they were docked, the wheels had load on them. And then there was backing out of the cargo hold down the ramp. If it wasn't dead-on it was an issue. And getting back up and in was another. Hope you do better with it than I did.

Found some coins that need identification
LordFerret replied to TheKSPBeginner's topic in The Lounge
Yes and no. Remember, the first soap was a mixture of animal fat, ash, and urine... and at some point, somewhere in there in time, lye was eventually thrown in.** I believe the credit for this goes to China. They soap I was referring to, 'plain hand soap', was also commonly called lye soap... plain, basic soap. ** (Imagine: Early man sitting around the campfire, dinner is done, greasy animal scraps fallen into the coals, someone liquides on the fire to put it out, and then it's discovered - Hey! This stuff cleans the dirt and crud off my hands! I'll try it on my face next! Yuck.) That's the part I was talking about with regard to the 'new unwanted corrosion'. True, cleaning them does devalue them - as though they hadn't lost enough value due to their condition. I'll give you an example; I have an 1850's eagle nickel I found which was so badly corroded it was pretty much worthless. The date and features were unreadable due to corrosion. I wanted to date it however, so I cleaned it sparingly. The act of removing the corrosion did reveal the date, but it also effectively damaged the coin - as if it wasn't damaged enough already. I wanted the date though, and I got it. Had the date been legible, I would have left it untouched. I don't really collect paper money, although my collection does have some notes from WW2 era military script (France), as well as script from the Korean conflict. Also, some Chinese yen from the same period. -
Found some coins that need identification

I believe the article mentioned something about olive oil. I don't think I'd ever try that. What do you do to remove the oil when you're done? The only coins I've ever cleaned, were cleaned because I couldn't read the date and mint marks. I used plain hand soap and water, and gentle scrubbing with an old toothbrush, just to remove some of the crud. -
Found some coins that need identification
LordFerret replied to TheKSPBeginner's topic in The Lounge
Read the article I posted, it's a short read and informative. Basically, distilled water is it. Cleaning the accumulated crud off of coins exposes their raw surfaces, which then invites new unwanted corrosion. Some of the worst corrosive forces coins see, are handling and the oils from human hands. Also, people tend to store their coins all together; Bad idea. Different metals react over time along with whatever crud from the ages is on the coins combined with atmospheric conditions (humidity). Worthy coins should be stored individually. As noted in the article, the coin storage pouches (aka 'flips') made of PVC are bad; As the article notes, use Mylar pouches. Yes, I collect coins, and stamps too. -
Found some coins that need identification

If you're a serious coin collector, rule #1 is: Do not clean coins, leave them as they are. There are plenty of resources on this subject, such as this one - http://www.numismaster.com/ta/inside_numis.jsp?page=how-to-handle-clean-coins You need to take better pictures, as already suggested. You don't need fancy macro equipment, a cellphone camera will do. Lay the coin on the table, use proper lighting (45 degree angle), and a steady hand. Then repost. -
I've had that problem. Struts will help. I've had this problem also, with my cargo plane. I started putting the Small Radiator Panels on the rear of the engine nacelles, which worked very well in bleeding off heat. I also used the idea on my Albatross2 (struts on wings and radiator panels), and it can cruise for quite extended periods at about Mach 4. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the forums. There are several tutorials and YouTube videos on docking... you should check some of them out. Docking, once you get the hang of it, is very easy, no worse than driving your car into the driveway and parking it in the garage. I guess you're talking about the nightvision? It's a really great mod that I use... you should check it out.

Anything I have relating to a rover, at launch, my checklist includes setting the parking brakes before liftoff. This prevents stuff like that.

Debris Fields And Kerbal Kessler Syndrome
LordFerret replied to Mark Kerbin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'll take it then you've changed the default debris setting, which is 250 (I think). -
I'm sorry but 'loss of job' simply isn't enough to put one into the projects or 'poor house'. I don't know about you, but anytime I've ever lost a job I've gotten right back up and gotten another... and even at one point in my life, fed up working for others, started my own business. Then again, I suppose for some, the reason why they lost their job might have a lot to do with the straights they end up in... I would be tempted to ask what caused the job loss: drugs, alcohol, habitual tardiness, under-qualified / position dissolved, sickness / health issue, etc.? Some of them are just unfortunate, while others are simply self-inflicted... create your own hell and deal with it.

For me this deals with the possibility of future versions which become useless (so to speak) without additional purchases ... DLC or in-game.

Looks like it's not going to be Toyota, but a company called 'Grab'. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/25/uber-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-sell-southeast-asia-business-to-rival-grab.html So this takes Uber out of the southeast Asia market (again - their 2nd exit). I don't think Grab will have much to do with the AI self-drive aspect, just the ride-share business end of things. To me, this is a sign of Uber collecting soon to be needed capitol, and possibly a sign you're witnessing the end of Uber (and if not, certainly the end of its AI-driven idea). IMO
