The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
LordFerret replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, and if I don't update I'll not be getting any fixed rover wheels either (among other things v1.1.3 is lacking). :/- 1,592 replies

The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
LordFerret replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
From all the discussion here, I'm more getting the impression this update will be a save-game breaker. This whole bit about comms; I have probes out on missions to Eve, Duna, and Dres ... am I going to lose them? Should I put up a polar satellite array in orbit now? Likewise for my deep space missions; should I start building a deep space relay network? Are there any preliminary specifications available for the new antennas (if there are any) or changes to old? I have no confidence what-so-ever that these developers know what "backward compatibility" means. I've a very strong inclination that I'll be starting my Science game over for a 5th time now. :/- 1,592 replies

That's pretty much where I was at, but also Privet and Spasibo... and a few others. My downfall was learning all the bad words from watching Авто Страсть (car crash) videos on YouTube (LOL!). So, I've switched to Masha and Bear (Маша и Медведь). This utterly pales in comparison however to my studies in Georgian (Kartvelian) language... not easy.

Just think of all the $$$$$ the IAU could rake in doing so. Already there are a number of companies out there using the old Tycho catalog, allowing people to assign names to stars, and then giving them an 'official' certificate showing the name and location of "their star". This is of course a novelty only, as the name is never truly registered with (or recognized by) any authority (IAU). My uncle did this for his grandchildren (just for fun), and we had a good time using Celestia finding the kids stars - and showing their relationship and distance from Earth.

We had a thread running here just this past month about this stuff, but what the heck. Dark Star

What do you think would make rovers better?
LordFerret replied to Flamingo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You should check out the Hullcam VDS Continued mod, which has some great cameras for use on everything including rovers - like nightvision, which is awesome in those dark places at the bottom of craters. This. More than anything else posted in this thread thusfar, this. Yes... Yes... ...and yes. I've spent a hell of a lot of hours rovering around on the Mun, and all three of the immediate above would have been a major bonus. Edit: Maybe a mod that interacts with SCANsat, where you can zoom in and click-set waypoints on the map that you've previously scanned and created? Perhaps a function attached to / part of the BTDT scanner? -
Looks interesting. The (true) story certainly is. I'd go see it, but it's going to need English subtitles because my Russian sucks. { I'm learning a little (very little) from my latest favorite cartoon... Маша и Медведь }

That's pretty cool, yay Freddie. If the IAU can do that, then they'd better get working, because there's a ton of other stars (artists) just as deserving. Lord knows, we've enough asteroids.

Didn't read through this whole thread; 4 pages, TLDR ... guilty I just would like to know if this is yet another saved game breaker; Will I have to start over again.

Best orbit for a space station?
LordFerret replied to Kerbinchaser's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Mine, in orbit around Kerbin, is 300km. My Mun and Minmus stations are at 100km. -
Living in New Jersey, near the shore no less, we're expected to see some foul weather. I don't think it will be anything "drastic" at this point. Personally, I don't pay such storms much mind until they hit Category 3, as I've been through many 'good' storms in my lifetime. Today was a nice day, cloud cover moving in, but cool with gentle breezes inland. It's beautiful outside right now. It would have been an excellent day for a sail out on the bay. Up on the beach is a different story, the surf is building... and, yea, they're out there on their boards. Our local report site(s) (Belmar / Manasquan) are showing me I'm missing out on a good day (boogie boarding)... I also like fishing out on the end of the jetty at Manasquan Inlet. :/ NWS Mt. Holly is giving me updates on a regular basis, basically calling for coastal flooding and high winds. Nothing new to me. Right now, it's a "Tropical Storm Warning", some 250 miles southeast of me.

There's a lot out there. My suggestion is a Google search on 'open source midi keyboard software'. You can assign just about any voice, multiple tracks, etc. And, as always, I'll point you to AVLinux.

is it technically possible to fly in or land on the sun?
LordFerret replied to boxley's topic in KSP1 Discussion
@Cunjo Carl This; An experiment. I'd done sun-dives before, but this one was my best. It was kept pointed at Kerbol (the duration it mattered, heat-wise). Notice the front was an umbrella of heatshields, 3 deep. -
I would not have noticed that had you not mentioned it. +2

I'll take a fish sandwich, thank you. Yum. ...and a chocolate milk shake.

Sorry to hear (about your mom). Been there. Rough road, especially playing the caregiver. Best wishes to you both. The Mun; I've been to both arches, just recently. So, like, where are these snacks you speak of??? Fortunately for me, I had a bag of jellybeans handy to celebrate with. More Mun madness: I put several landers up on Mun today, one of which unfortunately I miscalculated my landing, choosing an area with too steep a slope. The resulting crash killed the pilot (). One of the science experiments, a Goo container, fell through the ground and continued to 'travel'. Some really weird behavior here. The container fell to the center of Mun, and then rose back up to the surface... only to fall back to the center, and then rise back to the surface. Etc, etc, etc. I set Alt-Timewarp at maximum and sat there and watched as the container repeatedly fell and rose in that manner. It's doing it still (the program is running in background). I can't switch out because of the "while moving across surface" shtick, so I'm stuck. I'll have to terminate the program to stop it. Can't wait to see what the log file says about this one.

is it technically possible to fly in or land on the sun?
LordFerret replied to boxley's topic in KSP1 Discussion
What was the altitude? I've been within 144km before going poof (burning up) ... stock, no tweaks or cheats. -
Trouble with recovering some things
LordFerret replied to AstroBovice's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yes, I'm encountering the same thing. I think "in atmosphere" is an issue. That, and one or the other ends up going on rails. I almost lost Jeb in the testing process. -
Trouble with recovering some things
LordFerret replied to AstroBovice's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hummm. Odd. I've had success with this previously. I'm going to have to give it a whirl myself now. I'll report back later. -

Trouble with recovering some things
LordFerret replied to AstroBovice's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
That's because you're in close proximity to it (within 2km). Throw an RC-001S Remote Guidance Unit on each of them, or an OKTO2. ...and then there's the 'Fly Together' mod.......... -
Trouble with recovering some things
LordFerret replied to AstroBovice's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You'll need to add a 'brain' to each of the parts. I had a similar problem with this a while back, dropping a payload from a plane... after about 2km distance, it disappeared as debris. -
[1.12.x] Chatterer v.0.9.99 - Keep talking ! [20 Mar 2020]
LordFerret replied to Athlonic's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I've been using Chatterer for a few months now... love it. Adds to the game quite nicely. So that's a thank you to the developer. Now, is it just me?, or does anyone else occasionally hear this..... CapCom calls out to my female Kerbal in her capsule - sounds like "How's rehab?" She of course replies, with that laugh. I thought I was going bonkers, but then a friend present in the room heard the same. Personally I think it's outstanding. What humor these Kerbonauts have.- 751 replies

How do i acces the BIOS temperature settings on PC?
LordFerret replied to NSEP's topic in The Lounge
No, do as I suggested... elevate it. You can still use fans and ice, direct the flow under the laptop. Also, if the laptop has an illuminated key feature, turn that off ... that generates excessive heat. Certain Toshiba models are notorious for that issue. Tales!... One very hot summer afternoon, 1980(?), at the office, in the computer room (a sealed environment), 10 HP-1000Cs all rack-mounted and daisy-chained together (plus drives)... and the A/C unit died - no backup. We opened windows that had never been opened (nor were meant to be opened) and put fans in them. Someone put a meat thermometer on the racking..... 140F. Too hot to touch. Hot enough to cook meat. Have no idea of the actual board temperatures, but the system stayed up... a serious credit to HP.
