[1.12.x] Kerbal Atomics: fancy nuclear engines! (August 18, 2024)
Mikki replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I can imagine how that happens, regarding the incredible amount of mod code you`ve made... Something for your personal amusement by the way, many of your excellent parts in another insane inane "Duna Mission on Kerbalism!"... Have a good time ! -
DUNA MISSION on KERBALISM! More launches happened meanwhile, and soon all the vessels are ready for Duna transit. The decision about who will make the trip isn`t done untill now, its very likely that there will be two Kerbals of each gender on board, two pilots, one scientist and one engineer. Okay, i`ll display the other launches next, Orbitinsertion of the "Mun 1" and the "Minmus 1", both unkerballed and remote controlled untill Duna orbit: And one of three commonly used nuclear propulsionstages, launched with the same launchvehicle as all the others, very convenient. They also carry a small nuclear reactor from NFT to maintain a deathproof powersupply for radiators and LH2 cooling, this not for fun, really... A certain amount monopropellant for RCS is stored, enough for several dockingmaneuvers or resupply of other vessels: And last but not least a pic from the deorbitburn of a upperstage right aside one of the unmanned vessels in fairings, after reaching assembly orbit at around 200km:

I wish you good luck aswell, luck seems a major factor in this mod... If my try is doomed to fail at some point, i`ll try to save my Kerbals at any cost. I have lots of funds, about 40+million Kerbucks... I will give some close-ups of the various vessels for public investigation and enhancement!

DUNA MISSION on KERBALISM! Impressions from the first mission launches, random comments of a very nervous missionmanager (me )... Here the launch of "Kerbin 1", unkerballed, notice the ressource tabs. Launcher was specially buildt for this mission, targetorbit is about 200km, just below the first dangerous radiation belt... Orbit insertion and fairing deploy, all systems are go and nothing exploded... Midlaunchpicture of the midstage LH2 tank section, very difficult launch, bad flight behaviour in lower atmosphere but luckily it went up well finally. This part contains a small nuclearreactor and radiators to guarantee accurate cooling of the reactor and prevent LH2 boiloff... Same launchvehicle as before, very reliable. Docking in 200km altitude, no problems so far. PHEEEWWWWW! All upperstages of the launchers are deorbited by own propulsion, no deleting necessary...

Oh yes an thank you both!

Hi cliffdover, strap on some boosters and enjoy then fun! Welcome to the forums!

..."more challenging"... ??? You`re kidding me, you know Kerbalism is actually a suicidemod... KerbalAtomics don`t shorten the traveltime at all... i just like the mechanics, they are challenging too...

DUNA MISSION on KERBALISM! Once in a galaxy, far, fa No, no really no, this ain`t a hoax thread, this is serious Kerbalism spacefaring action, i decided to return to Duna again, yes AGAIN, this time for serious, putting my Kerbals to the fiery risks of a real hard lifesupport modification, ugly deaths, starvation, radiation, part failures and all the other good things Kerbalism provides... (English is something like the fourth language i`ve learned, so please excuse the tell ...) This missionreport will have lots of pics, and my personal comments of the actual situation, i really hope this is ends well without excessive use of f5/f9, bubblyzine or fireextinguishers. Mods abuse in use (KSP 1.3.): MM, NFT, KER, KIS, KAS, KerbalAtomics, HeatControl, TransferWindowPlanner, StockAlikeStationParts, DeepFreeze, TweakScale, and clearly, KERBALISM! (Setting on default)... Okay, without further ado......, here is the plan: "The plan is to get four Kerbals alive to Duna and back in one piece, neither krakened nor elsewise spaghettified, a rescuemission might be possible if needed, but the constraints of Kerbalism make it very unlikely to successfully manage such task in reasonable time..." Mission Crafts: Duna Transfer Ship, "KERBIN 1" Four Kerbal rated interplanetary transfervessel, contains a fridge for three Kerbs, one must stay awake during the journey to check out the situation. And eat some . It has a nice centrifuge and two cupolas, so the lonely Kerbal can hang around wherever he or she desires. The propulsion runs on LH2, tanks must be cooled and monoprop is the only other sort of fuel in this vessel, no liquid fuel, no oxidizer around. I hope the single Kerbal doesn`t go nuts while the others are sleeping... Duna Descend Crew Vehicle, "MUN 1" Will be covered in a fairing until reaching Duna surface, contains a three Kerb rover. And the ascend vehicle, if the Kerbs make it so far at all... Serves as main surface habitat. Propulsion runs on monoprop. Duna Supply Vehicle, "MINMUS 1" A supply truck, unkerballed, will be covered in a fairing until Duna arrival... Contains food, water and some other stuff, you never know how severe the situation can get. It has some stuff stuffed in the KIS containers, maybe usefull when times get hard. Can be used for safe surface excursions. Propulsion runs on monoprop. Mission Index: 2. Missionstart! (First launches) 3. More launches! 4. Crew presentation and orbital assembly, first issues 5. "High quality lead coffins?- Yes please!" 6. Back in business! 7. Entering the voids between the planets... 8. It starts to hurt now 9. Nothing so bad as it seemed 10. What should i say? Touchdown! 11. Let the madness begin! 12. "Why worry?" 13. Bob "Leadfoot" Kerman

In my game, there is a "small" chopper and some dudes, doing the job...

[1.12.x] Kerbal Atomics: fancy nuclear engines! (August 18, 2024)
Mikki replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I found another small issue, the NV-100 Neptune seems to have some tags in the Actiongroupmanager doubled, they have to be assigned twice as well to work properly inflight. (Reactor, Radiator, Panel) No biggie, just to say. @Nertea, you are one of the best, Cheerz! -
I finished some Duna mission crafts... NFT and KerbalAtomics... Kerbalism and DeepFreeze... Transfer ship running on nukes and LH2, for four Kerbals and a freezer installed for the journey: KerbalAtomics and HeatControl FTW! And the the crewlander, for three Kerbals, will be wrapped in a fairing untill reaching lower atmosphere: and finally a supplies and cargo lander, also landed in fairing, you never know...: Gonna go hardcore on Kerbalism, no turning back in my modded career...
-
I see a certain amount of Kerbalness... How far has this plane allready flown with the pilot loitering outside his workspace...? Is there any chance the pilots name is... Jebediah Kerman? Did he survive at all???
-
Beautiful Overkill ,... I am wondering about a bunch of things after watching this clip, like, how to load a game with electric props without visible klaws to redock them for savegame progress, and, if there wasn`t even though a little bit of alt+f12 abuse regarding indestructible parts (carrier touchdown/watering)... nevertheless, amazing video

Well, for the curious... Read this and maybe try it yourself. Its 100% stock KSP 1.3 ChopSui Chopper

This guy is so nuts i bet he is from finland.
-
I made a heavy lift chopper, 18 tons to the VAB roof: It has precise maneuvering: and huge power overall:

Kerbal Space Program: Making History Expansion Grand Discussion thread.
Mikki replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I really don`t dare to mention a specific part of reallife Russian spacetechnology... Will there be a chance that ... errmm a hinge like the Baikalbooster features might appear in the expansion? I would sell my cats for this basicallly. (They eat to much by the way.) Two cats for a hinge. Is that enough? (One of my cats actually meowed weirdly, uups!) Baikalbooster winghinge -
I just made another 30 points with a Kertonov 125 "Special" STOL cargoplane! Imgur album of the flight Craftfile Dropboxdownload, Kertonov 125 + And some impressions of the flight... 50 + 30 Points!

I flew under the RnD bridge, with a stock doublerotor electric skycrane. It has a groundstation grabbed. Crazy.
-
Here is my entry for the actual "Place the groundstations" KSP Forum Challenge... This is the craftfile, KSP 1.3 stock, Dropboxdownload: ChopSui How to operate: AG 1: Undock both engines (only once after first load to runway) AG 2: Toggle Klaw to grab/ release engines (make sure engines don`t spin anymore) AG 7: Toggle ramp, ladders - Find out yourself how to fly, spin up the engines to max (one left, the other right) and extend first the rear large, then the front large controlsurfaces (Rotorwings -20/20 to hover slowly up, increase to your liking) - Tune the small elevons to control the spinningspeed, they do lift aswell alot when extended (-150/150 to hover slowly up, can be retracted completly during flight/descend) - Make sure SAS on the engines is ALLWAYS DISABLED Okay, the challenge: So is slapped together a "Khinook" double rotor chopper to deliver Azimechs groundstation, i slightly made it more efficient in terms of weight, but it is basically his contraption. The Chopper is called "ChopSui" and has some crazy feats, like the ability to redock the engines after landing and save the game in progress, this can be done infinitly without failure, sufficiently tested at least 50+ times. Rotors are counterrotating and have small and large elevons which can all be pitched inflight to alter the flightattitude, in the rear are about 13 large reactionwheels to maintain a calm and safe flight behaviour, a little work to fly this thing is still necessary though. RGU units are powering the rotors and the chopper self, no fuel in whatever form is needed. Top ceiling loaded is ??? I stopped at 7000 meters altitude and left the game... Chopper was still ascending straight up at 10 m/s. Top speed loaded is depending on the altitude (2000-? m) around 35m/s flatout, which makes a whopping but still relaxing 126 km/h Imgur Album of the first three legs, yes the challenge is hard... Watch the mission time, i cannot timewarp... Imgur Album 2 of the next few legs, still not at the destination... Imgur Album 3 of the final leg, one groundstation delivered! YESSS!!! 50 Points!!! 50 Points so far!

How a Arianne 5 rocket motor works (german)
Mikki replied to Ringkeeper's topic in Science & Spaceflight
For a "kids show" its very detailed in the machining of the injectors and the coolling ducts, nice insight into the cleanroomlaboratory, worth a look! -
I hope TAKE TWO is keeping KSP free from any kind of unreasonable celebration of violence, thats all i have to say. Congrats to the KSP dev team to this promising happening! TakeTwo, good luck to all of you!

What new part do you want?
Mikki replied to Ferdoni's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
...A wider strut for more adequat large vessel strutting, mostly for visuals... and all the parts, all of them... ...rounded tankbutts. ...a baikal-style winghinge! -
I made a stock electric propeller bearing without fairing. Yes. Works perfect and engines can be reattached/ released by claw, so scene change is possible and this thing is careerproof. KSP prerelease 1.2.9.1796
