Forgotten astronaut, huh?? (&Apollo 12)
VincentMcConnell replied to VincentMcConnell's topic in The Lounge
That\'s funny, though. It suggests they know about Lunar Orbit Rendezvous and how Collins was the lonely CMP in Lunar Orbit who didn\'t walk on the moon. -

12 was my favorite mission. Hands down. -
First Kerbal To Walk On The Mun/Minmus
VincentMcConnell replied to aceassasin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I\'m not sure, but I don\'t think it will be one of the original three. My original plan was to do three successful spacewalks before giving myself clearance for an attempt at Lunar EVA. But with the time drawing so close, I think I may just make the first EVA in Kerbal history be a surface EVA. I\'m likely to let Jeb to the first spacewalk, but an unknown name should become a known name for his surface walk. I plan on making an Apollo 11 style video. Grainy, black and white of him coming down the ladder. I\'ll use my own voice and speed up the audio etc. But in true answer to this thread\'s purpose, I think it will just be a random Kerb.| Whether it will be on the Mun or Minmus, that is easy. The first Kerbal to step onto another celestial body will do so on the surface of Mun. It\'s closer, has several landing sites that I have plans for EVA and is easier to establish a nominal landing. I am very excited for EVAs having a purpose, though. Geological sample collecting, etc. These missions will be very extended and will take place over more than six hours of long distance EVA and extensive scientific purpose. Anyway. Enough about my huge EVA plans. -
http://mg.co.za/article/2009-07-19-how-michael-collins-became-the-forgotten-astronaut-of-apollo-11 I don\'t think Collins is a forgotten astronaut at all... He\'s been more public than Neil but not as public as Buzz. And I don\'t know about all of you, but Michael Collins is one of my biggest role models. The CMP of Apollo 11 and the Co-Pilot of Gemini 10 was not a set of easy jobs. While we\'re talking about forgotten astronauts, how many of you can name every man that has ever flown to the moon? And please, don\'t look it up. Be honest! I can name them all by memory. I\'ll spoiler it. Apollo 8: Frank Borman Jim Lovell Bill Anders. Apollo 10: Tom Stafford Gene Cernan John Young. Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong Michael Collins Buzz Aldrin. Apollo 12: Pete Conrad Dick Gordon Alan Bean Apollo 13 Jim Lovell Jack Swigert Fred Haise Apollo 14: Alan Shepard Stu Roosa Ed Mitchell Apollo 15: David Scott Al Worden Jim Irwin Apollo 16: John Young T.K. Mattingly Charlie Duke Apollo 17: Gene Cernan Ronald Evans Jack Schmitt. All of those guys are bosses. lol.

It's amazing what the mind can do....

So I\'m playing KSP right now. I usually test my new spacecraft on a sub orbital trajectory and just get a shake down of all the systems, staging etc. That way, the flight\'s over fast and I know what I need to fix. Anyway... At B.E.C.O. (Booster Engine Cut Off), I saw the G-meter drop to zero and I got to thinking. I imagined what it was like to be suddenly on a ballistic course and feeling totally weightless. I\'ve felt weightlessness for real before, but there\'s just something special about it being in space I guess. Anyway, a few seconds after I started thinking about this, I suddenly felt as though my entire body had actually went into zero-G. My arms, now off to the side of the desk floated up in front of my face as though there was no gravity. As soon as I realized it, I suddenly became aware of the 1G and my arms fell back down. It\'s just really amazing how the brain can do things like that to you.

Wait... 'We'? Is there something about your profession you\'re not telling us? (It\'s possible we actually have astronauts on this forum...)

You should take it off... haha just kidding. 2 year olds will be like that...

I have a space station currently at a 200KM altitude with an inclination of 51.5 (just like the ISS inc.). The best thing I could think up would be to wait until the station\'s orbit crosses right over the launch site, then launch into a 51.5 degree inclination. Does anyone know if that\'s a good way to do it?
-
That\'s because KSP just isn\'t made for spaceplanes yet. Gliders don\'t work very well in the Kerbin atmosphere.

Seriously, though. Not much has changed. Lots of great updates about .16 and I feel that we\'re nearing a release. At least that\'s my guess. I\'d say it could be another 2, 3 weeks? Other than anticipation of .16, you have missed almost nothing here. As for the world, we moved several thousand miles around the sun.

Yes. Time travel is now common place and you live in the United States of France. Welcome back, though.

Bio Campaign Missions
VincentMcConnell replied to Bioman222's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I already have challenges three, four and five completed. Possibly one. I\'ll run through my screenshots folder. This photo was taken from on top of the Mun Arch: This photo was taken along with a series of photos while I was in orbit around Minmus: Here\'s my landing site on just an average mission to Minmus: North Pole from 100KM Orbit: South Pole from 100KM Orbit: I now have challenges 1, 3, 4 and 5 completed. I\'ll get onto the rest. -
To minimus! (how?)
VincentMcConnell replied to Matticus88's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I don\'t know why you guys are always on about changing planes in orbit. There\'s a simple way to do this. Launch into Minmus\'s heading... If you choose to do this the 'Inclined Kerbin Orbit' approach, it\'s all about waiting until Minmus\'s orbital plane crosses over the launch center. As soon as it does, launch into a 6 degree heading either north or south. You\'ll be perfectly aligned with Minmus\'s orbit by the time you reach MECO2 around Kerbin. -
To minimus! (how?)
VincentMcConnell replied to Matticus88's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Getting to Minmus is rather easy. It requires a few Mid Course Corrections from a non-inclined parking orbit and several plane change maneuvers after arrival. 1.) Get into a 100KM parking orbit. 2.) Burn just before Minmus rises over the horizon. 3.) Extend your Apokee just beyond its orbit. 4.) You may notice that you are way off. North or south. 5.) Drift along until you\'re past the Mun\'s orbital altitude. It\'s time for MCC #1. If your orbit is too far south of Minmus\'s plane, burn Normal. If it\'s too far north, burn anti-normal. 6.) Try to establish a Minmus Periapse at about 100KM. 7.) Immediately after you enter the Minian SOI, make MCC#2. Burn retro to drop your Perimin to 14KM. 8.) At Perimin, burn retro. This is MOI1 (Minmus Orbit Insertion #1. Nominally you want to end up with a 14KM Perimin with an Apomin of about 100KM and with your Perimin in front of you at engine cut off. 9.) At Perimin again, burn retroy. This is MOI2. (Minmus Orbit Insertion #2.) When the engine is cut, you want to end up with a 14KM circularized parking orbit. 10.) Change your plane if necessary using a 'Plane change maneuver'. 11.) Land like a boss. -
Here is an album of KSP photos that took me several missions to put together in the correct sequence. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151002863543830.451570.571363829&type=3

Can you make a trajectory tab for this? Basically it would display your current trajectory and a toggleable switch would allow you to make your 'planned' course appear and disappear. Here is a diagram: Where the blue line represents the trajectory we\'ve already achieved and the orange represents the course we\'re about to follow. The small blue circle would be our ship\'s current position. But I really want to stress the idea of making the orange line toggleable. I\'m not a big fan of the way it looks while it\'s on, but it\'s important. This would update by the instant just like the ground path tab. It would help tremendously for doing mission control missions across several houses with your friends.

Really Advanced Photo Sequence: Kerpollo 11.
VincentMcConnell replied to VincentMcConnell's topic in KSP1 Discussion
haha. I didn\'t. I launched several missions in different configurations to make it look like that. For the docking in lunar orbit, I cut the LM loose and then uploaded the photos backward to look like I was approaching and then connecting. I think it took four Mun flights to get the Lunar Orbit sequences right. -
I have a quick question. I haven\'t even tried a Mun flight with this yet, but I was wondering about something. When I enter the Munar sphere of influence, will the reference body on the telemtry window change to 'Mun'? And also, is there a way for it to display my trajectory? You know that large figure 8 diagrams that Houston had? Does this do that?

Really? I need to go check! *scurries hurriedly to the search bar*

I built the Titan pretty accurately but it requires texture editing of the Novapunch pack and stuff. --EDIT-- Closest I can get to the Titan II in KSP.
