Virgin Galactic, Branson's space venture
Nightside replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That thing is so goofy and awesome. Is this the first "major" flight from Spaceport America?- 642 replies

Another well produced video from Blue, but I wanna see hardware!

Soundtrack sounds like an 80's Spielberg movie, or maybe from The Last Unicorn, but it's copyright free! I'd say that's what put them in the top spot.

totm dec 2023 Artemis Discussion Thread
Nightside replied to Nightside's topic in Science & Spaceflight
My brain keeps changing "Human Landing System" to "Human Powered Landing System" and I imagine some poor astronaut pedaling a bike powered lander. -

I'm not sure I trust L Ron Hubbard's gang to design a spacecraft... -

Then I will speculate that this is a "Non-returnable" variant, or Moon Taxi. Crew will transfer from a traditional capsule and this thing will not re-enter the atmosphere. Either that or it is just a really outdated image. -
totm dec 2023 Artemis Discussion Thread
Nightside replied to Nightside's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That Starship looks very different than previous iterations, no fins, winglets, or whatever, and very different from the current design. Was this configuration ever published before or is this different? -
Just make an issue in Github and drag pictures there. Then you can link them to the forum.
-
I think the github is up to date (1.0.1, right?), just the link in the OP only takes you to an old release, instead of showing All releases with the most recent at the top.
-
Ummm.... Looks like I'm not, but I just downloaded recently??? Aha, it looks like the Github button in the OP goes directly to the 0.90 release instead of https://github.com/Eskandare/KerbinSideRemastered/releases Thank you so much for your help, I haven't tried the new release, but it sounds like the problems should be resolved. I'm excited to play with the new statics!

[1.8.1-1] [PLEASE FORK ME] Kopernicus & KittopiaTech
Nightside replied to Thomas P.'s topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Fortunately Kopernicus can just add the sun back in. -
Can you imagine what would happen if someone named their airport NUL? Planes would probably just fall out of the sky... I think in my next version of this I will change the names to the 4 letter code. This will also support the addition of smaller airstrips that do not have a 3 letter code in my data set, but do have a 4 letter code. RSS is hard! Part of my interest in this project is making suborbital launches and flights more interesting by adding more detail to the ground. I set these airports to be default ON. I don't know if the KK Game Settings option overrides the default setting. I wanted to make them easy to find and easily compatible with NavUtils. As you said above, RSS is hard, and at this point I don't see micromanagement of runways as adding to fun. When I get around to adding/improving spaceplane specific runways, I might make those require funds to be opened, since they are more directly related to space.

Terrainium - World building experiments

Guide to exporting heightmaps and other rasters for future reference. -
MOAR AIRPORTS!!! I haven't heard of any trouble with the alpha, and I rooted out an issue that was preventing me from building the full "Large Airport" data (there were a few duplicates in the table). So I am releasing version 1.0.0 !!! Please find and fly to you favorite airports around the world. Check out NavUtils or the KerbalKonstructs ILS navigators to find your destination. In a future version I'll provide better support for NavUtils and MechJeb autopilot. If you have any ideas, requests, or corrections, please let me know. Fly Safe!

Maybe he couldn't get RO to work on his computer. If it was easier to install we might not have SpaceX. What % of SpaceX revenue comes from YouTube ads?
-
Thanks for your response. I checked In my normal 1.8.1 install, and it looks like the issue is also there, but gaps are minuscule, and would not cause issue for vessels. So it seems likely that Kopernicus or RSS (or maybe some KK effect related to planet radius?) is the culprit. On an individual basis, the gaps can be closed by some careful scooting of the static, however in my current airports project I’m generating hundreds of sites from a spreadsheet, and I have no interest in actually visiting each runway to check. Anyway, thanks for sharing your awesome work!
-
This uses kerbal konstructs, so you can visit as many airports as you like without leaving the flight scene! sorry if that wasn’t clear. Never in my life would I thought I would be curious about such a thing, and yet somehow KSP has led me here! Thanks for sharing, I’ll give it a watch. Tell me more about ICAO codes... I just went with IATA since those names are what I’m familiar with.

They are allowed, although links to the sketchier download hosts are discouraged. Thank you @jamesf , I will look into this. I need to deal with some more rudimentary problems first. For some reason the ugly VBA script I wrote to build the config files from my data stops before adding all the airports (although it works ok for ~200 North American Airports, it stops before finishing all 600 world airports. I already solved one strange problem that crashed my work, where windows cannot have a folder named "PRN" (which is the IATA code for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pristina_International_Airport). But after that I'd like to add more accurate runways.

Why mess around with intakes and fussy turbines when you can just go straight for a propeller? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_Rocket
-
Hey @Eskandare, I was trying to use your beautiful runways in my new Airports for RSS project. I have an issue where the stripes on the runways come apart from the runway and float or fall beneath the runway itself. These have colliders and will cause a crash if you hit them or fall in the holes. https://github.com/Eskandare/KerbinSideRemastered/issues/1

[1.8.1] Kerbal Konstructs - 1.8.1.15 - 15.Dec.2019
Nightside replied to Ger_space's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I hinted at this above, now ready for testing. If there is anyone out there brave enough to run both RSS and Kerbal Konstructs.
