That makes sense. For instance, every planet in KSP has a point-mass at its center, and the ground is a hollow shell. But our brains don't really know or care about that while casually playing the game.

I just came across an opportunity to start working on rockets, potentially a suborbital space rocket, in the coming weeks. -
Spooder I watched make its web last night:

One day, someone is going to run DOOM on a human brain.

Yes, I recall seeing pictures of the boosters in transport, clearly identifiable by the nose.

I noticed that slip too. It's unsurprising, but I still think they can make this work eventually.
-
Woohoo! I should watch this one live. It's been a while.

Colonization Discussion Thread (split from SpaceX)
cubinator replied to mikegarrison's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If Mars is uninhabitable, then open space is even more uninhabitable-er in almost all respects. We can put ring stations on the ground, too. Just angle them so that the spinning and the gravity add up to 1 g in the vector perpendicular to the floor. I don't think BFR is big enough to assemble a proper orbital colony anywhere near what Mars can sustain by building structures from local materials.- 442 replies

Hopefully a future spaceship design

That's a good point. I've never been to space for many months, so I don't know how much trouble it would really be readapting. -
Space colonization is something only the most advanced and the most simple lifeforms can accomplish.

When Mars is safe enough for people who haven't trained to use a space toilet, then some centrifugal force would be good. Tethering would be the way to go with that. Until then, if you want to go to Mars you had better be able to figure out how to use specialized equipment and procedure. -

With a ship like BFR, it's probably better in the short run to just do faster transfers to Mars by spending more delta-v. The astronauts can stay almost completely healthy by exercising. -
The last minute of the hour.

Then build up speed for 12 hours to travel to another QPU.

I think that's just what fuel tanks look like.

The Minmus Derp must have been inspired after I shared my experience from yesterday. Sometime I should take a picture of that stairwell to share here, it's a rather impressive one.

Those look to be very high up.

My college has a really deep underground building, and I did an egg drop that survived from about seven stories down a stairwell. -
I imagine it would be rather loud, what with the speed of the escaping air. At least until it was plugged.

I read that Alexander Gerst did plug the hole with his finger until the Kapton tape could be acquired.
