  1. Comet Siding Spring passing by Mars in 2014: By myself and @Adstriduum.
  2. It's hideous, isn't it? Fortunately there's a button on the bottom that hides it. Congrats to the new members of Expedition 52/53!
  3. And hatch opening coverage is live on NASA TV!
  4. Quite true. It would possibly help the prospects of a more in-depth mission to Titan in the near future.
  5. You're going to have some problems if you send your Titan probe into Jupiter orbit...
  6. The Soyuz is held pretty loosely when just the docking probe is attached.
  7. Interesting, but I want to see live cells before cracking out the champagne, so to speak. Which means lake probes.
  8. Like the sun? And black holes? I'm taking a look into Theia-Earth.
  9. Darn, won't be able to watch live then. Good luck to them, and I'll still be able to follow the docking and hatch ceremony later!
  10. I've had an idea today, that since the docking-less cube hadn't been panning out, maybe I could make a sort of "compromise cube" that only uses 4 docking attachments per layer instead of 8. I would have to find a way to secure the corners, but the edges would be truly attached. Or perhaps I'll find it's better to do it the other way 'round. Anyways, I've started designing it and hopefully it will turn much quicker than the first two and reduce the bad side effects of buggy docking ports, making a full solve feasible. If it ever gets to that point...I might consider streaming the solve attempt but that's not something to worry about yet
  11. I once made a craft that needed to have 72 docking ports aligned, 8 at a time, to work correctly. It didn't work very well, and I still want to improve on it someday.
  12. Dire, Dire Docks by Koji Kondo Also Heartache by Toby Fox
  13. It's a 4 gram step, mind you. I wouldn't expect humans walking around on Proxima b in the next hundred years based on this.
  14. I played a really neat jam on the piano and thought "Man, I've got to write this in SunVox!" but I knew there was no chance of remembering the thing for long enough to even go downstairs to the computer. This is a recurring problem. Now I'm going to record everything I play on the piano so that if something comes along that I should make in 8-bit, I can actually do so later.
  15. There was one comet observed in 1965 which reached a peak magnitude of -10 as it passed perihelion, visible clearly during daylight. It broke into three pieces. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Ikeya–Seki
  16. Looks like that comet broke apart in 2013, and it wouldn't have much of a tail if it was far from the sun.
  17. A lot of organizations are aiming towards further moon exploration right now. NASA, BO, even SpaceX now. I think if they are successful we may see some missions- unmanned and maybe manned- to the far side.
  18. I think I'll try to watch live tomorrow, although I won't be at home.
  19. I'm staying in Idaho Falls, that way even if it's impossible to drive to the center of the path I'll still be in totality. After the eclipse I'll go to Yellowstone for the rest of the week. It's sure to be quite crowded, but very exciting!
