  1. Yeah, that makes sense. I usually write my mission reports in a similar fashion, though with a lot less story-building! I was just wondering how long ago you decided where the story would go when you upgraded to 1.1. It seems like it was a tough transition.
  2. Yeah, could you maybe just zoom out just a tiny bit? That'd be great.
  3. @Cydonian Monk do you just come up with these story points on the fly, or did you write it all out beforehand, start to finish? Either way, it's crazy good.
  4. This sounds like a question for Randall Munroe! It might even be the second most destructive! Anyways, I hope there aren't any of these things very close to us. Interesting stuff, though!
  5. If you check "small moons" orbits in Space Engine, you'll see that Jupiter has a moon cloud that is several times larger than the Moon in our sky. It's *really* big.
  6. H. G. Wells' The Time Machine? The Eloi seemed pretty childish. Not exactly a psychologist though.
  7. I think perhaps a better response, over all that nonsense about heartbeats and stuff that is most likely completely incomprehensible to an alien that might not even have a heart, would simply be a large regular pentagon made of some material that requires complex technology to acquire, such as gold or even uranium, embedded into a circle or square of a different such material. That alone, coming from space, would be enough to convince me that there is an intelligent space-faring race out there somewhere. The only markings I would put on that symbol would be the location of the nearest pulsars (same as on the Voyager golden records), a diagram of a rocket, an example of our numbering system (basically the numbers -100 to 100, and maybe some interesting ones like pi, i, and e with graphical formulas), and a graphical rendering of our solar system that makes it REALLY clear that we are on planet 3, the one with one moon. If they don't have the tech to get here and take a peek, chances are they can't get much information from our slow radio signals.
  8. ...which also makes hydrazine. The hospital is...
  9. Granted, but you wish for something that kills everyone. I wish to be incapable of fear, but still keep my current beliefs about death. Off-topic: But he is called Frankenstein:
  10. Just fast enough to hit you; you'll see lights no matter how fast it's going. Is it raining?
  11. Yes, but there are fewer of those. There are certain times of night when it's very easy to spot orbiting objects, when it's dark enough to see but close enough to the terminator that most of the stuff above you is in daylight.
  12. Was it ethical for the lobe-finned fish to come and disturb the perfection of the dry world? Should they have stayed in the water and let whatever primordial bacteria there might be keep going on with their dry lives? They didn't care. They came to land because it would help them survive longer, ultimately by hundreds of millions of years. Moving into the stars would help our species survive longer, ultimately by hundreds of billions of years. Life spreads. It's a fundamental part of being alive, because being able to reproduce is an incredible evolutionary advantage. It's what drives evolution. Why should we decide to stop spreading? The undisturbed nebula was wrought into a protoplanetary disc. The undisturbed planets gave birth to life. The undisturbed continents were colonized by life. The undisturbed life was hurt by asteroids, comets, and volcanoes. The undisturbed land was farmed by humans. The undisturbed isolated civilizations were assimilated by explorers. The undisturbed forests were cut down. The undisturbed rocks were mined for resources. The undisturbed rivers flooded for dams. It is inevitable that the undisturbed planets will be occupied by our settlements and our robots. The undisturbed subsurface oceans of the ice worlds will be drilled through and probed. The undisturbed asteroids will be processed for minerals and fuel. The undisturbed stars will be visited, be it by postage stamps with lasers or by giant colony ships through wormholes. The undisturbed dust will be kicked up by human boots. The undisturbed craters will be constructed into spaceports. The undisturbed air may be pumped full of oxygen, and the undisturbed space occupied with stations. It doesn't really matter. Everything will be ok, and the future will be really cool! Anyways, I've rambled too long. I'll just go ahead and answer the poll now.
  13. What time was it when you saw the dots? There are certain times of the night when many satellites are visible, but if it was too early or too late it would be unlikely. I've seen plenty of satellites, but never through a telescope. You must have gotten really lucky!
  14. What about a Mount Rushmore type monument somewhere in the solar system? I'm cool with a statue too, or maybe have a giant image of Felipe in the sun, visible when near it like the sunspots.
  15. Woah. I mean, wow. What the Kraken? That's a huge plot twist. I have to break this down: -A kommunist party took over the world (probably via global thermonuclear war, hence the absolute devastation) -This party is essentially the Thought Police, with nearly as much power (There seems to be a revolutionary group that still exists, although it will soon be powerless) -The Party are also grammar Nazis (Hopefully not regular Nazis too). -Hallock is hanging out with Sieta, and he is (most likely) the one who disabled the comms. For some reason he really doesn't want them reactivated. -We now know The Boss' name, and that she is no longer in a position of power. -Wernher seems to have had his memories erased, so he will inevitably be on the Party's side. At least he doesn't know anything about the Things and Stuff and the Jool mission. Right now the Jool crew are the most blissfully ignorant (although they do know something's up, but they don't know how big it is). Unfortunately, there's probably going to be Kerbals on Laythe from Forgotten Space Program 1 that aren't exactly likely to be friendly, considering Hallock's condition. The Jool crew will need to fend for themselves and potentially face hostile company in the Jool system. And the current political conundrum seems hopeless. Kraken help them, they're all in one thick pickle...
  16. Wow, Moho is tiny! I saw the transit of Mercury similarly magnified relative to the Sun, and it was definitely much bigger than that. It just shows how huge normal-sized Kerbol is compared to the other planets.
  17. No, it should be able to rotate in both directions. Here's my current design that I concocted earlier today: It seems to work fine when I only use the rotation keys, and the connection will be reinforced with several docking ports anyway. (I hope multi-docking doesn't cause too much glitchiness...) Also, it looks like I'm going to have to use 2x2 panels based on the size of this bearing. That's ok, it will leave more room for the docking ports (which will be required for structural stability).
  18. @sgt_flyer Thanks for the advice! I'm doing it in 1.0.5, so that shouldn't be a problem. Ok, so I should be able to make a "compact" version, that would probably be better because it would have shorter joints and smaller parts. There would be a lot of docking and undocking within short distances, would that be a problem? Also, it would be easier (control-wise) if the bearing could be turned via the central part instead of the rotating one. Is that possible?
  19. Banned for starting a post with a parenthetical statement.
  20. 1. It doesn't need to spin very fast, it just needs to spin smoothly with a bunch of stuff attached via docking ports. 2. That's why I'm doing it in 1.0.5.
  21. Because people would make money setting it on the floor for stunts in colonial India, so the British government made it illegal to put salt anywhere except on the table. But Ghandi protested that by going to a river with a bunch of followers and he put salt on the floor. That's why Ghandi is @Sturmgeschutz You son of a ninja! I was working really hard on that reply! You know what, fine. I don't know about live foxes, but dead ones are usually silent. What if snails had hands?
  22. When you get excited when you see a lamp making a conic section on the wall/ceiling/floor.
  23. I'm currently trying to make a fully stock bearing (1.0.5) for...a certain evil plan I have, which cannot yet be unveiled...I found a really nice design here, but I have no idea how @JZ6 got the fairing to load whilst open. I would make a custom design based on theirs, but I can't replicate the open fairing without some serious glitching. I don't want to use someone else's bearing directly, because I want my [CENSORED] to be entirely of my own design. Any tips on making a smooth bearing that can carry a moderately heavy load? It needs to be able to withstand the mass of over 20 2x2 structural panels* in microgravity, plus several Clamp-O-Tron Juniors. *unless it can be made extremely compact, like within .6 m wide. Then it would only need to withstand that many 1x1 structural panels. Thanks in advance for helping me! BTW what I am attempting will most certainly be the first of its kind in KSP.
  24. There are two solutions to this problem: Make the fairings less shiny (easier, makes them fit in) Make all the other parts more shiny (more work, changes general aesthetic) I would personally prefer the second option, but the first is fine with me too.
  25. Still don't know what you're talking about. Is it that you purposely mixed up their team name to annoy them?
