I'm loving the casually professional attitudes of the kerbonauts! Keep up the spectacular work!

If a planet becomes a dwarf planet they shrink only if they are larger than Pluto. If Earth were to become a dwarf planet, it would become really small but everything on it would stay the same unless everything was classified as a dwarf too. Is whale-hunting illegal on Pluto now? -

You've made it much further than me, I'm not sure if I can keep up! But I see you're taking a much more meandering path than I am, and stopping to plant flags much more often. Challenge Accepted. P.S. Do you have a mission report?- 21 replies

Because it's underground, and you can't fit a big enough lander in a mine. Does Saturn have an evil overlord? -
I'm pretty sure Kerbals don't need bathrooms. That "toilet" in the destroyed building is actually a scientific experiment for a novel approach to transporting golf balls, using pipes filled with water! As for the name of the aforementioned Kerbal, I'd leave her be. It's not actually bad like a certain other word the name generator can come up with, it's a real name. And that's better than a lot of what the algorithm cones up with...(seriously, who would name their kid Billy-Bobdorf?)

Granted, but each image from Google Images costs $15 to view. As in, you don't know anything about what the image looks like until you've purchased viewing rights to it. Images on all other websites cost only $5 to view. I wish to be able to change the outcome of any historical event, and to be able to see the exact results of said change beforehand so that I can decide not to change the event if any results are undesirable.

My favorite games are: Kerbal Space Program , GTA , Red Alert 3 , Minecraft and Universe Sandbox 2

CHAPTER 22 + 7: DIRE, DIRE DUST So, after a short (doublethink) hiatus, I decided to drive a bit further. I'll definitely need further pestering to get to the end of this, though. Excerpt from the mission transcript: DD HH MM SS 03 02 12 49 PLT Hey, check out what I found. 03 02 12 55 SCI What? 03 02 12 57 PLT The command seat computer has KTunes on it, looks like there's a bunch of songs. 03 02 13 05 SCI Oh, cool! - Why don't you put something on. That'd make ... a whole lot more interesting. 03 02 13 31 PLT - - called "Slide Theme". 03 02 14 24 SCI Sounds pretty fitting the way this thing drives. (Laughter) 03 02 14 28 PLT It sure slides around ... it? (Laughter) - - Oops, clicked on something. "Dire Dire Docks"? 03 02 14 40 SCI That's actually quite calming. 03 02 16 21 PLT I like it. Surprisingly fitting driving music. Listening to Dire Dire Docks actually gave a really nice feeling to driving on the ironically dry Mun. I didn't make a spectacular amount of progress yesterday, but if I keep going I'll finish eventually, right? It's not like it requires a lifelong devotion. Pics: Please try to pester me to continue, otherwise I won't finish, and I'd feel really bad about ditching another Elcano attempt (even though the last one was due to a glitch and not my fault). This is still my 1.0.5 stock install btw, not 1.1.2. I had some trouble with frequent BSODs after switching to 16-gig RAM, so I'm back to my old 4 gigs now and I figured my modded 1.1.2 install would take forever to load so I might as well just do this. I hope I won't need to blow the dust off this thread again, as I'll be having plenty of free time soon with summer approaching.- 21 replies

I agree that rovers and probes are much cheaper and easier. But it's not all about science. Humans want to go there. We want to toss red, dusty pebbles in low-G along a riverbed that dried four billion years ago. We want to watch an eclipse wander over Jupiter's bands from a seat on a Galilean moon. We want to float past the rings of Saturn before donning wingsuits on the shores of a methane lake on Titan. That is the reason for human space travel. It's not because "humans are better at science" (humans can do science just fine with robots gathering data millions of miles away). It's because space is awesome, and we want to go there. On a shorter note, it costs way more to send humans to space than probes, and probes can do pretty much everything we can except analyze data, which is easily beamed back home for the scientists to look at from their comfy swivel chairs and monitors. As robot technology advances, the "more science" argument for human space exploration is becoming weaker and weaker. But the advancements in reusable spaceflight will make it way cheaper to send humans to space, so in the end both humans and robots will be in space a lot. Ok, I guess that wasn't much shorter.

Dude, it's been three minutes...
-
You're second. Nice try though. Mission success! WOO!
-
What are the sparklike objects that flew about the engine after cutoff?
-
Firing second stage again. Edit: Looks like it's into it's transfer orbit. The satellite will do the GEO insertion, I suppose?
-
Wow, really concise. Don't they realize the importance of what they're doing? Never mind, the person who wrote it was probably too busy partying to bother writing a better post. Look how excited they are, there isn't even any punctuation!
-
Yeah, it was really interested in the camera. Stage 2 has crossed the mid-Atlantic ridge! It's amazing how fast these things go.
-
Who else is watching the technical webcast instead of the one where half of it is just them explaining stuff we already know from KSP? There are several hornets flying about the camera, I wonder what they'll do when it launches.

Having a defunct spacecraft as your avatar? Cheater!
-
Actually, I would give that a -10/10 because we now have no weapons, including nukes. Yay! 6/10 it gives mission control a scare, but it turns out it was an easy fix and everything is fine again a few minutes after the successful landing. I shoot an RPG at the Falcon 9 rocket seconds before launch today.

Of course! It's green (except for a few giant small very small blue patches which are invisible from orbit due to the BDLPSWDKS Effect) and exactly the same size as Jool, and in the same orbit! There is not way Earth isn't Jool! The government is hiding Laythe, Vall, Tylo, Bop, and Pol because they don't want us to know that we have multiple moons! The Illuminati is headquartered in the moon system and they are developing a nuclear bomb that will destroy Earth and free the moons to take over the galaxy! We must stop them!

Since 2011. Can I see the dot if it's too far away? -
But that's not time travel to the past, that's just being old enough to have been around. I am the time traveler.

C'mon, 5 atm is definitely not going to do that. That's as if the gun was fired 50 m underwater. Maybe if it were Venus, with 90 atm, but it's not. I launch myself in a Falcon 9 with Dragon straight up, turn so that I land a safe distance away, and land by burning retrograde so the atmospheric entry is less intense, and finally by detaching and landing by parachute in just the capsule. Oh, and the booster is on a trajectory to do a hard impact on top of the next poster.
