Looks like an image of Rosetta under assembly. I found an article containing the image, the GIADA is a dust analyzer instrument on the probe. http://blogs.esa.int/rosetta/2015/04/09/giada-investigates-comets-fluffy-dust-grains/ As for the "Voyager" bit, it was probably found on some extremely misinformed conspiracy website that randomly linked to a "space probe" image that they probably Google'd and it happened to be a picture of Rosetta. Both Voyager probes are currently on an escape trajectory from the solar system, and will continue orbiting the galactic center until someone goes and gets them, which probably will never happen.

What spacecraft is that? Both Voyager probes are nowhere near Earth, and most likely will never come back. Link to image source?

I offer God a contract to build a planet for me. He accepts, and I name the new planet My Hill. Now, no matter who claims it, this planet will always be My Hill. It also has lots of hills on it.

One of my Kerbals did an EVA report just below space, then when she went to go back into the hatch, *poof*!

10/10 if that is a LEGO Kerbal, 5/10 if that is not a Kerbal. -

When you built a 1x1x1 speedcube out of wood, colored it, and stickered it because your cube tower didn't look complete without it.

Moon, Ceres, and Asteroid mining/colony (2040-60)
cubinator replied to Spaceception's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'm not quite seeing this becoming viable in the next 50 years, but maybe in the next 100-150. But I'd love to be surprised! Asteroid mining is definitely something we should do someday, because there's no ecosystem to disturb (pretty sure) and there's a great abundance of metals that can be used for spacecraft, and that are rare on Earth. The monetary incentive will probably be what drives us to build large, permanent bases on Mars, Venus, the Moon, and in the asteroid belt, judging from the past. I think that would be really cool, because it would mark the beginning of the true "Space Age" where space travel becomes affordable and easy for everyone. I suspect this will happen sometime in the next two centuries, but again: I'd love to be surprised. -
Well, technically it depends on how fast the Jupiter clock goes to Jupiter. If it's going at, say, .1 c, it'll show a much different time than a clock that went there at .00001 c. It also would change depending on how long it was at Jupiter. Being in interplanetary space with no planets nearby means time would run "faster" for the space clock than the Earth clock. But then the space clock gets close to a really big planet for a while. If it stayed there long enough, Jupiter's time dilation would compensate for the clock's being in interplanetary space and the clock on Earth would catch up. But if you did it just right, you could put the clock in interplanetary space (it speeds up) leave it in orbit near Jupiter for a while (it slows down) then bring it back to Earth (it speeds up again then slows down a little bit) so that the two clocks, although having shown different times before, show exactly the same time when the space clock gets back to Earth. I've no idea on the math, but it really depends on how long the space clock's trip is.

SpaceX Jason-3 Mission & Live Stream - With info. about landing
cubinator replied to a topic in Science & Spaceflight
Damn, seems like every time there's this ONE thing that screws it up, and it's always *this* close to making it. I'm confident that they'll do it next time though! Go SpaceX! -

We'll find planets, sure. But "habitable" to me means you can take off your space helmet, take a deep breath, and not die from anything. I doubt we'll have the technology to determine whether or not a planet is actually habitable without actually going there anytime soon. That said, finding exoplanets that are earthlike, meaning they have properties similar to Earth's like being in their star's habitable zone, is feasible in the near future. And that is really cool.
