  1. https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/official-quick-start-guide.12520/ will get you started
  2. I didn't want to start slicing it too fine - easier to just say no Interstellar, no NF to avoid any uber-parts.
  3. You definitely get a badge - and I'm impressed you got that much iron-mongery down in (mostly) one piece.
  4. You'll want to be on the ground with about 9K dV just in case. Mind you, I returned from sea-level with that (well, 200 meters), so if you can land on that high super-plateau your mileage may vary.
  5. Early in career you can hit orbit and save money with a couple of staged Thumpers and a small LF final stage with a Terrier, but once you have access to better gear, SRBs should be relegated to "initial launch kick" and that's it. If you do use them as a primary launch system, there are 2 rules: 1) Put steerable fins on them 2) Tweak thrust to less than TWR 2 in the VAB (1.7 seems like a happy number for me)
  6. I forget not everyone gets humor. http://factually.gizmodo.com/buzz-aldrin-once-punched-a-moan-hoaxer-in-the-face-1605920370
  7. I love @Amianoob's giant block of fuel tanks Have a badge! Yep, land a kerbal, plant a flag, get home. Yep - the only absolute requirement is to land the kerbal on Eve and get him home to Kerbin. Yep, post 1.1 I'll revisit this and update the challenge to match the easier (I assume) world of 1.1 parts - but the 1.05 version is possibly a bit more brag-worthy as it's not easy at present.
  8. I really recommend the pain of career mode. It will constantly make you do things you aren't sure you can manage and you will learn a LOT. If docking is an issue, you could always watch me mutter about it here
  9. Oh, and if the toggles are giving you headaches, use Precise Node. That and KER are probably the two mods I'd make stock, immediately.
  10. That was Buzz Aldrin, and he's coming to your house to punch you.
  11. Kittehs for cute. For impressive survival ability through mass extinctions, crocodilians. For deliciousness, crabs.
  12. It's odd, @Snark I think it's what I was seeing, not three hours ago at Minmus - the maneuver node marker was tap-dancing on the navball. I figured it was connected with whatever glitch kept me unable to set Minmus as a target or my duelling reaction-wheels. But now I'm wondering.
  13. Do you, by chance, have multiple reaction wheels on that ship? I just had an issue (at Minmus, oddly) where several were fighting each other and resulting in similar issues. Plus violent shaking just to be exciting. On turning a particular one off, it stopped. Mind you I had other issues - like not being able to target Minmus.
  14. Well, that was not as disaster-laden as I'd thought. Only 85 meters because I was silly. The idea worked and could go much taller.
  15. "I'm the pilot. It's my first day!" A cop wakes you up in a public park. You are wearing a set of pink yoga tights, smell of smoked meat and are clutching a small stuffed walrus.
  16. Aha. Well, I changed my PW just in case. Thanks for the heads-up @Red Iron Crown
  17. I have a brilliant* idea *mwuhahah* once I get home from work I shall attempt it. *By "brilliant" I mean totally impractical and likely impossible to execute.
  18. It went well, as I recall. Made SOI, orbited, landed (on the second try, I believe, the first tipped over) - the fun occurred when I wound up out of gas with a 230km+ Pe while on a very elliptical Kerbin orbit. I then learned how EVA controls worked while Jeb pushed on the poophole-end of a Mk I capsule for a long, long time out at the Ap.
  19. There's a lot of Canadians in here - why don't we have a better space program?
  20. Depending on what else is running in the background, that may be your issue. And as Radonek pointed out, you may want to pull IR and see if that fixes your issues.
  21. I love this stuff - here's a good research paper on one Lunar possibility. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/280099331_Economic_Assessment_and_Systems_Analysis_of_an_Evolvable_Lunar_Architecture_that_Leverages_Commercial_Space_Capabilities_and_Public-Private-Partnerships I like this one largely because they're looking at how to make it pay a little bit back. That, and they're admitting there needs to be some actual prospecting probes to ensure the necessities are there in the required amounts.
  22. It has oxides galore, considerable sulphur and more helium-3 than Earth. There's stuff to work with.
  23. That's true - but if you have to stay subsurface for your colony, just go to the Moon. Mars doesn't offer anything markedly better for long-term settlement (other than being more colorful and probably not smelling as bad), and the Moon is much, much more conveniently located
  24. Sadly. unless Mars turns out to be made of money, I don't see a self-sufficient colony there, ever. That being said - scientific crewed mission to Mars? Yeah, eventually. I'd be surprised it it was earlier than 2035-40, though. And it'll depend on some as yet non-existent radiation shielding technology/medicines. Otherwise you're killing your astronauts 15-25 years early with aggressive cancers. Same issue applies to colonizing Mars, actually.
