I suspect Squad would like to have a viable commercial alternative to Curse. Suggestions of potential providers would be more useful than the "I hate Curse" mantra - we all dislike Curse. That's not the issue. The trick is pointing out a competing commercial provider with equivalent capability and revenue.

I'm sure others have done really silly things with asteroids. I mean, Hazard-ish is years ahead of me in this field. Share your stories and failures!
-
Well, this could have gone more smoothly, but I had fun.

I got my pet rock home

As everyone has said - nose at 45-90 degrees and a Pe of about 35-38km and you should be happy. Unless you're really booting along, in which case take a few high-altitude aerobrake passes on your orbits (still with the nose at 90) to get your speed into, say, the 2400-2600m/s range before trying to de-orbit..

Oho, that solves a long-time mystery for me, thanks to both @Rune and @NathanKell

Why did my rocket not launch???
Gojira1000 replied to Loren Pechtel's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
KJR is not a must-have on a rocket (it's nice, but I just lofted a 1300-ton refueller last night without KJR and it wasn't too noodle-y) but on space-planes it very nearly is, unless you like your wings with a lot of flapping. (Also external strutting looks awful to me on a space plane) -
Steam, GoG or direct are all good. And yeah, you can copy a "clean" version into a folder and keep it there for the moment you break your current install with a batch of mods.
-
But if it has a drop tank it's not an SSTO - You might maybe be able to do tylo if you did laythe then bop or pol, then back with a full oxidizer load. As I look at it on paper, it should work. Craft file's in the YouTube description. Jam an RTG in it - I forgot to bury one in the adapter collar and ended up with Val EVA-ing and spinning the panels to face the sun at one point. Wait, no it's not - https://www.dropbox.com/s/nxi3ze8uxbol1xb/Duna%20Express%20-%20Mk2.craft?dl=0

*edges into the thread and blinks for a while* In life (or KSP) you can, ethically speaking, do whatever is fun for you, that hurts no-one else. You can't expect anyone to agree with you or validate your fun, though. It might not be fun for them. *edges slowly back out of the thread*

1. Nope that's dead easy, much easier than landing on Duna, in fact. 2. It should now be tagged in the YouTube info - or just grab it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nxi3ze8uxbol1xb/Duna%20Express%20-%20Mk2.craft?dl=0 3. My current single-seat version dropped to a smaller ISRU (keeping the big drill- credit to TheReadPanda for a lot of the rework ideas), added an RTG, repositioned solar panels and radiators, added precoolers rather than shock cones and managed to drop a Rockomax tank while remaining capable of hitting everywhere except Moho fairly easily. Moho you have to be careful or you'll wind up out of gas. There's a pic of it at http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/549806679193136922/DD5A68BB4206C862C906835B08E5D6F3EA26678B/ As it runs with a probe core you can jam Bill in it to maximize refuelling efficiency and still have it fly decently. It's a bit tricky on re-entry in an atmosphere. Be gentle until under the sound barrier.

I built a rocket with 32 chutes and 8 drogues on it because of a Reddit challenge I'm working on. Hopefully there will be a video. With explosions. So far, so good
-
Oh sure - that's true, the mini-tour with ISRU could easily be a Gatecrasher entry

I'm not sure why people loathe Curse the way they do. Never bothered me much, as I've dealt with its silliness for years. In any case, sad to see Kerbalstuff go, but thanks for the work you did, mate.
-
Nope, he's busy coding. I have a suspicion it might be @Starhawk
-
Right - read the rules first *makes note* Here is the absolutely sloppiest Astrokerbal flight you will ever see. In an SSTO called "Scooter". It has the one redeeming feature of succeeding

Edit - ahh as SPA pointed out, below - I can't read. Be back shortly! *runs to the SPH* I thought I should drop back in with the Duna Express - mostly because I wanted an upgrade to Astrokerbal All stock, 69 parts.

What is the limiting factor in your SSTOs?
Gojira1000 replied to Levelord's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Pretty much just dV for Moho. And Tylo and Eve, but good luck with those two. -

Well, almost a Jool-5. A 4 1/2. Stupid Tylo.
-
Valentina flew an SSTO to Jool's Moons (but no Tylo landing) in a pre-1.1 farewell to my 1.05 career
-
That's pre-1.05. Wouldn't work now, IMO.
