It's done. Weeks of work in 26minutes. But I'm not happy with the music... Any suggestion of good matching free to use music? -

Just returned from my Jool 5 1/2 mission. Parts lost so far: 0 Buildings upgraded: all Tech tree unlocks: all Money left: 839.695 That's just enough to build my reusable to everywhere ship, which can plant the last missing flag on eve. But I don't actually have to execute this again? Have I? That was a hard piece of work and it will take days cutting all those videos together but I'm really happy now, thanks for this great challenge -

I just can't decide how to do Jool... ISRU SSTO to all 5? ISRU lander for the 4 airless moons plus a laythe SSTO? Or a big mothership with a non atmospheric lander plus a laythe plane? -

Eeloo is done too. Parts lost so far: 0. Next is a reusable Jool 5, but it turns out that this is a challenge on its own, taking more time than all my progress so far And then there is this purple thing too... I think I will expand my challenge to also unlock the entire tech tree, and land everywhere. but somehow my motivation is down at the moment... It's also a little frustrating that 1.4 is out now... But I won't start over a third time -
Has someone tested, if the new making history parts give us any advantage on this? Didn't find the time for it

Also congrats @5thHorseman it's really a great challenge. I have started over again without using the admin building and doing a video of it -
Yes, I was wondering and tried a similar build. Even with 6 aspargus boosters it doesn't get verry far. I barely reached 1000m/s vertical speed. The twr of your second stage in that picture is already under 10 and so it should loose speed after booster separation. The more aspargus stages you ad, the shorter the burntime of the first boosters gets. Even with 6, the first boosters are almost immediately empty with that much engines, and that without gaining much speed. This is really hard.
-
Ok, clustering some Vetors may reduce the number of boosters. But I still think the number of engine bells will be over hundred. How far from orbit are you with this?
-
If you manage to do aspargus staging with several hundred mammoth engines, and some high efficient final stages, this would work but that's out of my computers reach

The No Contract Career Challenge

Thanks! And also thanks for tip with the tools, I will have a look at them. No mods here. I just try to get ap a little above 70km with the booster stage, and then bring the second stage as quickly as possible into a stable orbit or at least into a wide suborbital trajectory, then switch back to the booster, before it gets too deep into the atmosphere. I fully deploy the booster parachutes as late as possible (around 300m in this setup), so that I don't loose much time watching it descend and can switch back fast to the second stage. I don't have the correct numbers right now, but I think things out of physics range only disappear below somewhat around 30-40km. I try to switch back to the booster above at least 60km, because I think it also looses the atmospheric braking, if it's out of physics range. But that's just an assumption. -

The 2x Gravity SSTO Challenge
Kergarin replied to Kergarin's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That's impressive @Cunjo Carl and looks like something from star wars Yes, SOI changes are really a big problem. Originally I was trying to do a 2G career game, and it was really fun. Everthing felt new and challenging, but SOI changes just don't work. I switched in my career game to Sigma Dimensions and changed the size of everything to 2,5x, which gives you almost the same difficulty level. But I thought it was easier for this challenge to use alt+F12 insted of installing a mod. -

Congratulations sorry for off topic, but is there any way to make imgur upload my images in the correct order? Or order them by name, date or something? I do have 155 images so far and it is impossible to rearange them manually. -
The No Contract Career Challenge
Kergarin replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yes, I have a lot of pictures but I have used the admin building and I'm thinking about starting over again without it and maybe make a video. If I continue with the admin building, I think I would be done after visiting the Jool system. I'm playing stock on normal settings plus "require signal for control", "plasma blackout" and all pressure/g force limits activated. -

My attempt to do this fully reusable makes good progress. I have landed on Mun, Minmus, Duna, Ike and Gilly, while recovering every part. All I have to spend my money for is fuel -
The 2x Gravity SSTO Challenge
Kergarin replied to Kergarin's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Congratulations @Cunjo Carl That craft looks really interesting. I'm happy to hear you had fun too. I also had to relearn everything, that's exactly what this challenge is for if you are bored because you can build SSTOs with crazy payload fractions while sleeping, this makes you feel like back in the old days when the game was new and you had to figure out everything. Reentrys are verry exciting now, aren't they? -
The 2x Gravity SSTO Challenge

I think VTOL and parachutes are ok. Clipping should only be used for esthetical reasons, it should not give you an unfair advantage. Looking forward to see your results -

This challenge is really interesting. I think I will try to do this completely reusable. -
The 2x Gravity SSTO Challenge
Kergarin replied to Kergarin's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Looking forward to see your results 2G is verry doable, 3G is challenging I see the main problem at 3G in a too short runway. It forces you to build a less efficient design with more wings or thrust, if you want to reach takeoff speed until the end of the runway. -
I remember how it felt building my first SSTO, and it was a great challenge and experience. But after a while, building SSTOs becomes really easy. Now I have found a way, to get this feeling back. Set the gravity to 2x! You will end up with small payload fractions and a challenging reentry. The game feels brand new and a little more real. If you also want to have this experience, I challenge you to: press ALT+F12 Activate hack gravity and set it to 2.00 Build an SSTO Fly it into a stable orbit above 70x70km Fly it back to ground No part/physics mods or things like that. Visual and informational mods are ok. Post screenshots or videos with ALT+F12 menu always open. If enough people participate in this challange, i will add additional goals / scorings and maybe a badge. (like smalles manned craft with closed cockpit, smallest craft with orange tank as payload or maybe just highest payload fraction etc.) (do not try to leave Kerbins SOI, hack gravity is not compatible with SOI changes) Here comes my verry basic entry with around 5% payload fraction: https://imgur.com/a/HPmj5 For comparison here is my 1G version with more than 33% payload fraction:
